Melady's Monet returns in style
The trotter that had stolen the show this winter at The Meadowlands had been conspicuous by his absence for the last four weeks. Melady's Monet had not been seen since winning the top-level trot on January 2nd. Harness racing trainer Kevin McDermott reported the gelding suffered a quarter crack and was given time to heal and freshen up. There was no evidence of any lingering affects of that quarter crack Friday night at The Meadowlands....

DOVER, Del. ---- Two longtime contributors to the Delaware Standardbred industry passed away recently. Ruth Bower Davis, 89, wife of the late reknown horseman Olin Davis, formerly of Harrington, Del., died peacefully in her sleep (1/17). A University of Delaware graduate, she drove horses as a hobby and was one of the early women to secure a USTA driver’s license. She was renown during the mid 20th century for helping to develop the famed stakes winner Quick Lady. Mrs. Davis served as Clerk of Course and Program Director at Harrington, Georgetown, Brandywine, Rosecroft and Laurel on-and-off for 40 years and was a Director of the Delaware Standardbred Development Fund until it ended. She was a runner at the Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg for many years. In addition, she was a substitute teacher in the Harrington (later Lake Forest) school district, well into her 70s and had perfect attendance volunteering at Milford Hospital for many years....
