Red Mile Race Reviews
Saturday, August 25th
Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt
Race 1 Selections 4-5-2-3
1
Smokey Lonesome
Tried to cut out some quick
fractions 2 starts back here on opening night, but ended tiring badly
late. No question he is better than
that, but this is a pretty solid crew he’s landed in as well.
2
Stinky Sham
Finished up a decent 2nd
against similar company last time at Scioto,
and barn typically has some success down here. Fairly wide open behind the fav in my
opinion.
3
Whispers Art
Caught up in a big mile last
time as well, and had to settle for a distant 4th. One of many with a shot at the minor awards
in here.
4
Out of My Hands
Speedball nearly went wire
to wire again last time through some wicked fractions, but got outkicked down
the lane by a horse that had a perfect trip on his back. I don’t see anyone that can keep up with
him in here.
5
Father in Law
Appears to have been in over
his head in his first 2 local tries, but is another that should benefit from
the smaller group tonight. Hopefully
he won’t get caught up in the early pace, might be better off from the
back.
Race 2 Selections 3-6-7-2
1
Raven Victory
Well bred first time starter
debuts after a couple of average Q’fers on the east coast. No question he is bred to go, but I’m not
convinced he is ready for these just yet.
2
Follow My Dreams
Finally lands in an inside
post after being stuck on the outside in her last two. She continues to improve, and quite
honestly this isn’t an overly tough spot.
Maybe.
3
Blue Valley
The KY Fair Champ actually
went off as the fav against a much tougher group last time, but really never
got worked into the race. She should
be ready to handle these in my opinion.
4
Caribbean Dream
Handily defeated by #3 three
starts back, and off stride in KYSS last time. Doesn’t appear to be heading in the right
direction. No question this is a much
easier spot though.
5
King Supreme
The king has had a long road
to his career debut tonight, and doesn’t look ready for these.
6
Sara the Spy
Not a bad Q’fer for Sara,
and keep in mind the entire trio that beat her were all KYSS horses. Lands in a comfortable spot tonight for her
local debut. I can make a case here.
7
Francos Red Rocket
Couldn’t keep up with KYSS
company, and now takes a substantial drop down to a more reasonable
level. Should continue to
improve.
8
Rose’s Cyclone
Was only about a length
behind #7 in that last Q’fer, but would have to pick it up quite a bit if
he’s going to keep up with this bunch.
I’ll watch one first.
Race 3 Selections 3-8-7-5
1
Lion of Judah
Raced well the first couple
of times we saw him, but fired an absolute blank last time. Which lion shows up tonight? Lands in a WIDE open crew here. Needs his very best though.
2
Annrenee
Rode the rail to an even 4th
place finish last time, but was never a threat to #5 after sitting on her
back the entire way. Stiltner gets the
call for the first time tonight, still needs more.
3
Sax Solo
Actually raced much better
than the line appears last time, as he was shuffled back to last after
electing not to move to the outside early.
I would expect a much more aggressive steer here. He’s the one to beat.
4
Mobil Big John
Parlayed a perfect pocket
trip into the 31-1 upset last time, and that was after a 4 week break. Should continue to get better in his 2nd
local start, and is one of many with a chance in here. Bolon opted to #7 instead.
5
Diannas May Day
Followed the top 2 last time
and never moved, which resulted in a decent 3rd place finish
behind them. Will likely look to leave
and seek out another nice trip tonight.
She fits with these.
6
Oat Matt Donald
Donald has shown the ability
to beat these and has been facing far tougher company in Indy, but it’s tough
to endorse him off those recent efforts.
Would take a complete turnaround.
Bolon opted to #7 instead.
7
Copper Cat
Held his own recently
against similar company in Indy, and looks to have landed in a fairly
comfortable spot for his local debut.
0 for 22 on the year, but has hit the board 10 times. Bolon opted here over #’s 4 & 6.
8
Mrtnlufr Bluegrass
Actually held his own
against some pretty tough company on the KY Fair Circuit this year, and I
have no doubt that he can go with these.
Might be live at a nice price here.
I’ll take a shot.
Race 4 Selections 7-3-5-1
1
Viking Mia
Absolutely crushed in both
of her local starts, but now she steps up to take on a solid field tonight in
the Open. Not quite sure she is ready
to go with the favs in here, but should have a shot at the minor awards.
2
Patty Says So
Patty has put in some nice
efforts since arriving locally, but is another that may be a bit ambitiously
spotted here against Open company.
3
Frozen Assets
Saved all the ground and
didn’t race badly at all in his local debut to finish up an even 4th
behind a very solid group. This isn’t
as tough as the group he faced that night, and should be better in his 2nd
local try. Must respect.
4
Sister Gola
Couldn’t go with a tough
field in her only local start, and has a scratched ‘sick’ in between now as
well. Not positive indicators.
5
Miss DW Chip
11yo mare put in a solid
effort last time, and nearly held off #7 in there for 2nd. No question she should be headed right back
to the front end again tonight. Catch
her if you can.
6
Altesse
Held her own against
claiming company in Columbus, but this might be a bit tougher group than she
has been facing up there. Would need
her very best.
7
Blueridge Legacy
Well beaten as a heavy fav
in his last start, but lands in against an even softer crew tonight at least
on paper. I can’t stand short prices,
but looks tough getting around him in this spot.
Race 5 Selections 8-6-3-7
1
Major Worries
Appears to have some major worries
once again. Pass.
2
Money on Tap
A solid effort to pick up 3rd
against similar company last week, and lands in what appears to be a WIDE
open crew tonight. Any similar effort
should put him right in the mix once again.
3
Title Shot
I must admit that I was very
impressed by his local debut, coming up only a neck short to RH who came back
to finish 2nd in the Open last week. Short price looming though, may try and
beat him with that in mind.
4
Shady Maple Bullet
Nice 2nd place
finish at S’field last time, but this is a LOT tougher company than he faced
there. I’m not sure he’s ready for
these just yet.
5
O’Rourke Three
Rode the rail to take 2nd
last week, in what was a much better effort than his first local try. Plenty of back class here with over $635k
in the bank. No question he fits with
these.
6
Duck Hook
Dug in and fought for a dead
game win here 2 starts back on an off track.
Never got worked into it last time at Scioto,
but he can go with these on his best day.
Price should be right as well.
7
Hillcrest Domingo
Closed very well to hit the
board at a big number last time, and will likely try another off the pace
rally with the speed inside of him tonight.
Continues to improve with each start.
Maybe.
8
I Ota Win
May have been trying to set
the track record last week as he went to the front and never once thought of
looking back through a sizzling 54.2 half.
Still hung in there until very late.
Could win at a nice price.
Race 6 Selections 3-1-8-9 Start of the Pick 4 See ticket at the end
1
Jazzie Music
Added lasix and nearly
pulled off the 38-1 shocker after facing pressure all the way in her local
debut, and lands on the pole in what should be an even easier spot here. All positive indicators.
2
Dollar and a Dream
I’ve got plenty of dreams,
now I just need some dollars to go with it.
Mare is 0 for 30 LT, and not sure I can dream up a scenario where she
wins here.
3
Billtown Road
5yo should continue to
improve tonight in his 3rd start back on the year, and only the 4th
start of his career. Finished up a
game 2nd last time, and tends to kick home well. Lots to like. Loney opted here over #10.
4
GD Rosanne
Yet to hit the board in 12
LT starts, and would have to find a lot more to reverse that trend here.
5
B Good Lexi
Finished up an even 4th
last time, but was far behind #3 in there.
Probably about the best she could hope for again in here.
6
Alluring Art
Barn has been rolling and
won with some bombers already this meet, but this filly is yet to fire an
above average effort. Not an overly
tough crew, but would have to find some more pop on the end of it.
7
Looksgood Onu
Lone 2yo in the field should
continue to improve here in her 4th LT start, but is still
probably not ready to make any major noise against these.
8
Already Spent
No question this is the
easiest field this mare has seen since arriving locally. This should be much more to her liking, and
I could see her taking home a big piece.
9
Doc’s Coco
Coco did exactly what was expected of her last time, and
finished up with a nice 3rd place finish. Certainly not done any favors with the post
draw, but she should be close with a good clean run at them.
10
Shirleybaerg
No luck in her first go
around, and things aren’t going to get any easier from way out here. Pass.
Race 7 Selections 8-6-9-2
1
Beach Bandit
No question the easiest
field the bandit has seen since arriving locally, and this appears to be an
absolute crap shoot on paper. He
should be able to go with these.
Demand value with whomever you choose.
TS opted to #6.
2
Loco for Cocoa
I’m certainly not loco over
that last Q’fer at The Meadows or the 1 for 17 LT record, but this is an
almost now or never scenario for this guy.
If he’s ever going to get another win, this is the spot.
3
Addison
Far back against a much
tougher group last time, and drops down to a level where he should be more
competitive here. Grey gelding is
still going to have to find a little more pop on the end of it though.
4
Miss Kelley Lynne
Tough to gage off the IL
fairs, but I will point out that this mare does show a win earlier this year
at Maywood in
57.3. Is she ready to go with
these? Wish I knew. I’ll watch one first.
5
Artistic Dynasty
A nice even effort in her 1st
local try, and lands in against an even softer crew here for round 2. Yet another that has a big shot in
here. Your call.
6
Mexicali Rose
How did this mare end up the
ML fav you might ask? Well someone had
to be the fav and she does show taking on far tougher company in
Chi-town. A couple of solid efforts at
OH fairs. Should be a nice spot for
her.
7
Rainy Day Q
Takes a class drop into our
bottom condition, but still going to have to find some stamina to hang around
late.
8
Lock Out
Looked to be home free last
time, but a longshot snuck up the inside late to go by him. Track was off a bit that night as
well. Price should be right, I’m
willing to take a shot on him against these.
9
Awink andagrin
Parked every step against
much tougher company last time, and I firmly believe any smoother journey
would put him right in the mix here.
This race is probably going to be won by who gets the best trip. Again, WIDE open.
10
Whersme luckycharms
NO question he has the
talent to beat these, but this guy looked horrible in his local debut. Not sure if they’ve got him lined out yet
or not. Take a long look at him on the
track and watch the toteboard.
Race 8 Selections 1-6-2-3
1
Winchester
No match for some of the
nicest colts in OH last time in $22k stake, but lands in against far softer
company for his local debut. Lands on
the pole as well. I’m on board.
2
Dancing in Terror
2yo swung about 7-wide at
the top of the lane and sprinted by most of his rivals to finish up a nice 2nd
in his career debut. Should continue
to improve in his 2nd LT try tonight.
3
Argon Fire
No match for a solid set of
stakes colts in $15k KYSS Sunday, but drops down to a more comfortable level. Should be much closer here.
4
Real Impressive
Yet to hit the board in 10
seasonal starts, I’ll wait for a better spot.
5
Wheelie Fast
Raced evenly to finish 5th
last time, but this appears to be an even tougher group on paper. Never been 1-2 in 32 career tries. Don’t see him snapping that streak
here.
6
Big Man Clyde
I was very impressed by the
AM work 2 back, but he completely came to a stop against stakes company last
time. Shouldn’t have to work nearly as
hard here though. Big shot.
7
Perfect Truth
I was overly impressed with
this filly continuing to fight all the way to the finish after getting parked
every step of the mile last time. Any
smoother journey puts her in play here.
That’s the truth.
8
Im Bashful in Away
Parked with cover the entire
mile last time, after beating a pretty suspect crew in her local debut. Not an easy field she faces here. Needs more.
9
Doc’s Mocha
We haven’t seen her in
almost a month after finishing far back in the KY Fair. I’ll watch one first.
10
Swingin B
Not a bad effort last time
but she had every opportunity in the world to go by her rivals after swinging
out wide at the top of the lane. Faces
a solid crew here, and slammed with post 10.
Pass.
Race 9 Selections 6-10-8-5
1
Kinda Flighty
Yet another great betting
race, and this mare lands on the pole in a spot that she should find a bit
easier than her last. Still would need
her very best. Your call. Loney opted here over #’s 3 & 8.
2
Skyway Scoot
Moves from mid-level
claiming ranks to mid-level condition ranks, and actually appears to fit
better with these than the claimers she faced in her last couple. Another that will have to have her very
best punch though.
3
Averylu
Lone 3yo in the field came
from way back last time to pick up the pieces and finish 3rd. She certainly fits with this crew. Should sit closer from post 3. Loney opted to #1 instead.
4
Sassy Kathys Girl
Came up short against
similar last time, and I’ll wait until we see some improvement.
5
Last Scnd Shot
Picked off some tired ones
late last time to finish 4th, but he hasn’t fired anywhere near
where I expected him to at this point.
This is the easiest spot he has faced since arriving locally
though. Wakeup call coming?
6
Do It Best
Was going to win last time
in my opinion, but was hopelessly locked in on the rail and had to settle for
2nd. I don’t think he will
have that problem tonight. Whisman
should step right on the gas, catch him if you can.
7
Take a Shot Scott
Has held his own against
similar in recent times, and is another that has proven he can go with this
kind. I wouldn’t blame you for taking
a shot, but we can’t use them all!
8
Sandbar Slugger
Had a perfect trip behind
the eventual runner up in his only local start 2 back, and quit badly late to
finish up the track. Rebounded with a
big effort at OH fair in last. Which
slugger comes to town tonight? CL
opted to #1.
9
Blue Punch
Likely to be coming from FAR
back, but typically always offers a fairly nice late kick. Just not sure things are going to set up
well for him in competitive field from outside post.
10
Doc’s Zilla
Barn won with a bomber here
last week, and I have no doubt that Zilla has the ability to go with this
crew. Tough assignment from post 10,
and Sturgeon will have to work him into the race. Price is right though.
Race 10 Selections 8-6-5-4
1
Dutz’s Charm
Raced evenly against similar
company last time, but keep in mind that was only a 5 horse field. Picks up the services of Loney here, but
still going to need her very best punch.
2
Premier Cami Cane
Tired late after setting a
quick early tempo in her first local try, and then came up sick last
week. I’ll watch one before endorsing
her.
3
Lima Daydream
No question that was an
impressive 26.3 kicker to finish up a close 2nd in $16k stake last
time, but 3yo steps up to take on a competitive group of older mares
here. Short price looming, I’ll look
elsewhere.
4
ThatillB Sweet
Used hard from post 10 last
time to make the lead, and still dug in gamely late to hold 3rd in
what ended up being a big mile. Lands
in a perfect mid-pack post tonight.
Stiltner has plenty of options.
Maybe.
5
Hereiam Coolwater
Moved first over into a
wicked pace and got by the tiring leaders only to be collared by the closers
and finish 4th in her last attempt. Any smoother journey should put her right
in the mix.
6
Kilowatts Fantasy
Unleashed a nice final
quarter but still ended up a ½ length short after her rivals got the jump on
her in small field. Could be in line
for a nice cover trip from post 6, and should have plenty more pace to
chase. Big shot.
7
Sexy Smile
Appeared uncontrollable in
parking out a couple of rivals through a blistering 54.2 half in her last,
but she showed some heart to hang on for 4th in there. Kravchak going to have to find a way to ration
out the speed.
8
Keene Supreme
Red Mile veteran has held
her own against similar company in OH recently, and is another with a big
chance in WIDE open crew. Great
betting race!
9
Tiaras Bluff
Saved ground for a nice 3rd
place finish in her prior local start, but has her work cut out for her in
wide open field from post 9. Needs her
very best.
10
Dollys Joy
It certainly speaks to the
competitiveness of this race, when last weeks winner is 8-1 ML from post
10. Looked great winning, but had a picture
perfect journey and hard to see that happening from way out here.
Race 11 Selections 6-7-5-4-1 10-CENT SUPER HI FIVE
1
Papaknowsbest
Tired badly late after
getting parked every step of the mile.
That won’t happen tonight from post 1, as he should be in line for a
nice trip close to the pace.
Maybe. Stiltner opted here over
#2.
2
Crime Scene Cruzer
Got set up perfectly last
time, but still sprinted by his rivals late for an easy win. Big step up to take on Open company
though. Not quite sure he is ready for
these just yet. Stiltner opted to #1
instead.
3
Idbegoodatthat
Wow! 5yo blew by his rivals around the far turn
and opened up for a dominant win in a new LT best time of 52.4. Big step up to take on Open company from
the claiming ranks, but he deserves the chance after that.
4
Real or Magic
Things appeared to set up
perfectly last week after he got a quick early pace to close into, but the
heavy fav failed to fire and was a disappointing 3rd in my
opinion. He certainly fits with these
though.
5
Minks Request
Toss out that last effort,
as he got his tire flattened just past the opening quarter. With that in mind, he could potentially hit
the board in here at a big number.
Underneath only.
6
Jagger Blue Chip
Vicious on the front end
last time, making quick work of his rivals to win by almost 3 lengths after
facing pressure the entire way.
Nearing in on $300k for his career!
7
Real Hanover
Dove down to the inside very
late last time to snatch the place spot behind #6. Continues to improve with each local try,
but faces a tough group once again. A
classy veteran with over $461k in the bank.
Your call.
8
Blueridge Straight
A nice well rated mile to
score an easy win against weaker, but steps back up to take on some tough
customers here. Not sure I’m ready to
jump back on board against these.
9
Bar B’s Apache Cam
Looked for a moment like he
was going to get a BIG piece last week at odds of 142-1! Flattened out a bit in deep stretch, but
still not a bad effort. However, has
his work cut out from post 9 tonight.
Pass.
