Red Mile Race Reviews

Sunday, August 11th

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                1-5-6

1

My Funky Farkle

Chi-town invader was 1-1 in matchups against #6 at Balmoral in overnight company, and should get a nice clean journey from the pole in short field.  Lots to like.

2

Klassic Kanidate

Handily defeated by #3 in the local Q’fer, and would have to find a lot more stamina to hang with this crew.

3

Swiss Alps

I was disappointed with his Opening Night effort, as he packed it in midway down the lane.  He has proven he is better than that, but I’ll wait until we see some signs of improvement.

4

Massasauga

Rode the rail in his local debut, and finished far behind.  Would take a complete turnaround.  Pass.

5

I Need Your Help

Trotted evenly and passed a couple of rivals in a solid 58.1 backhalf last time out.  We might see more aggressive tactics now with the start under her belt.  2nd start for new barn.  Must respect.

6

Southwind Kean

A fairly solid local debut behind a couple of nice trotters here on Opening Night, and anything similar to that should put him right in the mix once again.

Race 2                     Selections                                3-4-1

1

Lacys Friskie Gal

Was all out in finishing 3rd behind #’s 3 &4 last week, and I will try her in that spot once again.  Appears to be a couple of notches below those two.

2

Bettor’s Jackpot

Fresh purchase here for new connections has been facing far tougher company on the east coast, and should enjoy the class relief here in his local debut.  Likely to be pounded at the windows though.  Worth the risk?

3

Indy Shooter

Aggressively driven by his co-owner last time, and he expectedly got a little tired on the end of it to finish up 2nd behind #4.  Certainly a big threat with any smoother journey.

4

Ellie’s Best Dream

Picture perfect journey following #3 last week, and she parlayed that into an easy win.  Not sure things will work out as perfectly here, and she will likely take a ton of money coming off the victory.

5

Bluebird Musical

No match for #’s 1, 2, &4 last week, and don’t see things getting any better here.  Pass.

6

J T’s First

Couldn’t close into the quick fractions last time vs. many of these same foes, don’t see anything changing tonight.

Race 3                     Selections                                3-7-4

1

Groton Party

1st time starter has yet to flash much speed in the AM, and would really have to pick things up in order to tackle stakes company here in his career debut.  Can’t see him crashing this party.

2

Chiarello

Note the barn change here, looks like a fresh purchase for the nation’s leading trainer, Ron Burke.  Had some breaking issues for his previous connections, but wouldn’t be surprised to see some improvement.

3

Kabu

Has unleashed a couple of vicious rallies in his last couple of tries, only to come up just short.  Picks up Hanners tonight, and I think he has a lot of talent.  Might just blow right by them this time.

4

Southern Déjà vu

Never worse than 2nd all season on the KY Fair Circuit, but will still need to prove that he can take that next step up to KYSS company.  Not an overly tough group here in 1st Div.  Catch him if you can.

5

Rebel Soul

No match in mid-level stakes company at The Meadows, and would need to find even more speed to hang with the top ones in here.  I’ll pass for now.

6

Shana’s Lucky Star

Well beaten by #4 all season long on the KY Fair Circuit, and would really have to pick things up to contend for any of the major awards tonight.

7

Cut It Close

Continues to improve with each LT start, coming up just short in deep stretch here last week as the fav.  Connections have had a lot of success here in KYSS over the years.  Any further improvement puts him close.

Race 4                     Selections                                3-5-6-4                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Sam Axe

Simply toured the oval in his 1st LT start last week from post 10, and lands in against some tough rivals in stakes company tonight.  Would have to find a lot more speed in a hurry.  Smith opted to #6 instead.

2

Camilla’s Beachboy

No match for #6 recently on the KY Fair Circuit, and hooks up with several other solid foes as well.  Not sure this is a good spot.  Pass.

3

Up N At It

Not sure what caused the break in overnight at Mohawk last time, but this guy flashed some major league speed 2 starts back.  Not an overly tough crew he faces here.  No doubt the one to beat.

4

Last Best Chance

Went right down the road to win in his 1st career try on Thursday, and keep in mind the track wasn’t in all that great of shape.  Should continue to improve.

5

On Golden Ponder

Big effort last time out in Canada for barn that typically brings them around slowly.  Appears to be heading in the right direction, and any further improvement puts him squarely in the mix w/#3.

6

Proceed to Party

This guy has proceeded to romp in his last 4 starts, blasting his rivals in the $8.5k Ky Fair Final.  No question a tougher assignment here, but he continues to get better and better.  Maybe.  Smith opted here over #1.

7

Seve

Hard to gage 1st time starter with only one true work under his belt, but I would think it would be asking a bit much for him to go with this crew at first asking.  I’ll watch one first.

8

Sir Barton

Several notches below his stablemate (#6) on the KY Fair Circuit, and lands on the outside here against tough company.  Not tonight.

Race 5                     Selections                                5-7-2

1

Morgan Glide

Soundly defeated by #5 in the KY Fair Final, and appears a notch or two below the favs in here.  Pass.  Lachance opted to #7 instead.

2

Hey Pancho

First start wasn’t all that bad at all in finishing behind #5, then reverted into a break behind the gate last time.  If he can mind his manners and improve any at all, certainly could contend for the minor awards.

3

Samburu

Well beaten in both AM efforts, looks like a tough task tonight in career debut.  Not yet.

4

Scacco Matto

Has flashed speed in his brief career, but has encountered breaking problems in the last couple.  No question he can go with these if he keeps his mind on business.  Your call.  Lachance opted to #7 instead.

5

Victory Scene

Continues to improve with every start, and just romped to an easy score here in $9k KY Fair Final.  Ultra consistent never finishing worse than 2nd in 5 career tries.  I’m willing to hop on board.

6

High Seriousness

Canadian invader is tough to gage after making a break on the off track last time in his career debut.  Q’fer prior was nothing stellar.  I’ll watch one first.

7

Sorrento Hall

The AM works were solid at Pocono, but didn’t do a lot to impress in his first try under the lights.  I suppose I am willing to give him a pass for that since he has proven he can trot a little.  ML chose over #’s 1 & 4.

Race 6                     Selections                                7-3-6                       $5,000 Guaranteed Pick 4                      See ticket at the end

1

Elzane

Overmatched in $9k KY Fair Final, but lands in what appears to be a WIDE open crew behind the fav.  Should sit close from the pole will need to find some more stamina to hang around late.  Maybe.

2

Don’t Muff it Up

He has been completely muffed up in those couple of tries against similar overnight company at Scioto, but does arrive locally to the mile strip and picks up the services of Pete Wrenn.  Should improve.

3

Shawnee Gold

1st time starter romped in her lone AM work, kicking home in 29.4 under wraps.  Should continue to improve in her first start under the lights.  I’ll give her a try underneath.

4

Mitey Savage

Yet to hit the board all season when primarily competing on the IN Fair Circuit, hard to see things getting any better here.  Pass.

5

Mr Justice

Showed a touch of improvement when adding Lasix here on Opening Night, but would still have to find a lot more speed to compete for any of the major awards.  Not yet.

6

Enrichment

Finished up a fairly decent 4th behind a solid trio of freshman trotters here last week, and should be able to blast out for good early position in big field.  Might provide some value behind the fav.  I’ll take a flier.

7

Ravine

Finished up a close 4th in the $150k NJSS Final, and put in another solid effort against tough company last time out at Big M.  Lands in a very comfortable spot for her local debut.

8

Roscoe Ivy

Has been ‘ok’ in the conditioned claiming ranks at Hoosier, and is another one of many with a shot at the minor awards in here.

9

Victoria Valley

Not much success to show for 2 local starts, and looks like a tough assignment once again.  Pass.

10

Holligram

Lands on the outside of tough group here after not firing last time out.  Retains longshot status.

Race 7                     Selections                                8-7-6-5                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Twice Too Nice

Debuted with a solid Q’fer back in June at Vernon, but appears to have really regressed since.  Not sure she is heading in the right direction here in her 1st career start.

2

DC Master Mind

Doesn’t appear to pack the speed necessary to go with the top ones here in big field.  Not for me.

3

Ella Teel

Showed a touch of improvement in her 1st career try at Big M and doesn’t land in against any ‘monsters’ here for her stakes debut.  Any further improvement puts her squarely in the mix.

4

Brindisi

No luck on the KY Fair Circuit, and hard to see things getting any better here.  Pass.

5

Tax

Benefitted from several breakers to win the $9k Ky Fair Final, but still went a solid mile on the front end under little encouragement.  Likely will be leaving to sit close once again.  Maybe.

6

Sister Star

Lost all chance at defeating #5 last time after making a break in the first turn.  Was able to regroup to pick up 3rd, and should be very close tonight if she keeps her mind on business.

7

Petticoat Affair

Continues to improve with every start, including a dominant wire to wire score in overnight last time at Hoosier.  Not overly tough group, appears to be the one to beat.

8

KJ Brenda

Note the barn change tonight, as Brenda arrives after a fairly solid effort over a sloppy track at Monticello.  Should enjoy the stretchout to the big track.  Picks up Lachance as well.  I’m willing to take a shot.

9

Lady Kate

Hasn’t shown much speed in the AM in PA.  I’ll watch one first.

10

Gliding Princess

Soundly defeated on the KY Fair Circuit against many of these same foes, and now lands on the outside of big bulky field.  Longshot status.

11

Dress for Success

Has been ‘ok’ on KY Fair Circuit, but would have to find a LOT more speed to contend for any of the major awards with this crew.

Race 8                     Selections                                9-8-10-6                  50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Best Legacy

Didn’t have much to offer the only time we saw her in the AM, but I will say it is absolutely WIDE open behind the fav in here.  Still would need to improve quite a bit.

2

Take Cover

Finished up just behind #7 in the $8k KY Fair Final, and appears to be heading in the right direction.  Any further improvement would put her in the mix for the minor awards.

3

Magical Bestern

Would have to find a LOT more stamina to hang around late against this crew.  Not for me.

4

La Jolie Hall

We’ve already established the fact that I am not a big fan of #3, and she defeated this filly in the Q’fer last time at Pocono.  You guessed it, hard for me to endorse this filly as well.

5

World of Power

OH invader is yet to show much ability in the AM, and I will watch one under the lights before hopping on board.

6

Sorority Girl

Continuously improved on the KY Fair Circuit this season, but still appears to be a step or two behind #7 at this point.  Would have to pick things up a bit more to contend.

7

Caribbean Girl

KY Fair Champ banked $17.8k on the circuit this year, where she was clearly the best of the 4 horse pack.  I will say that she looked like she had all she wanted at the end of that mile last week.  WIDE open behind fav.

8

Salsa Star

Q’fed evenly over the track for a barn that has had some success here in KYSS action in the past.  Again, it looks absolutely WIDE open behind the fav.  Nothing would surprise me.  She has as good of a shot as any.

9

Somethin Incredible

I’m not sure how incredible she is just yet, but she looks TONS the best against this crew.  2yo’s can change week to week for certain, but she is a clear standout.  Put a circle around here.

10

All Charged Up

Doesn’t appear to pack the same speed as her stablemate (#9), but is another one of many that could contend for the minor awards and she will likely offer good value from outside post.

Race 9                     Selections                                6-9-5

1

Out of Gear

We haven’t seen her in almost 3 months, and still doesn’t appear to have found any high gears just yet.  Pass.

2

B Good Lexi

Finished up an even 5th last time in an improved effort, but would still need to find a lot more speed to contend for any of the major awards.

3

Money in the Bank

Didn’t find anything overly impressive with the lone AM start, I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

4

Fiddle in the Band

Didn’t end up within shouting distance against similar crew here last week, would take a complete turnaround to go with these.  Not for me.

5

Charley Strong

Don’t be too tough on Charley, he was stuck in behind a staller around the far turn, and wasn’t able to shake loose until very late.  Not sure he can beat the fav, but maybe a shot underneath at a nice number.

6

Twice as Hard

Last start looks better on paper than it did in person I must say, but you would have to think he should be good enough to knockoff this crew.  Short price looming once again.

7

I Be Da One

Flashed some improvement in an even 4th place finish here on Opening Night, but will still need to improve even further to threaten the top ones in here.  Not tonight.

8

My Roberto

Not a bad effort last time for only his 2nd start in the last 5 years, although I will say that #6 did get by him fairly easily down the lane.  Should continue to improve with each try, another with a shot at the minor awards.

9

Checkout Terror

I could be completely wrong (that seems to happen from time to time), but this filly unleashed a BIG late kick here in local Q’fer and caught my eye.  I think there is some talent here.  I’ll try her flying late once again.

10

Machsie Leader

Paced evenly in quick mile here in $8.5k KY Fair Final to snatch up 2nd, and now lands on the outside in full field of overnight company.  Would need his very best once again.

Race 10                   Selections                                9-4-8-10-2                               10 Cent Super Hi Five Wagering

1

Laredos Goose

Solid effort after being used hard here on Thursday to dig in and hold 3rd.  Should continue to improve in his 2nd local try.  Must respect.

2

Our Little Pilgirm

Put together a big rally down the lane after getting shuffled back on Thursday, nailing #1 in deep stretch to take the 2nd spot.  Anything similar should put him in the mix once again.

3

Leadmeto thetruth

Decent against similar company in Paducah, but appears to have landed in against even tougher rivals here.  Would need to pick things up quite a bit.

4

Lady Cambest

Ended up following the eventual winner on Thursday, and raced evenly to finish up a decent 3rd.  Takes a plunge into claiming company tonight, one of several with a big shot.

5

Real Party

Lost all chance after a break at the start here last week, and it would be hard to jump on board after seeing that.  Has the ability though, if she minds her manners.  Your call.

6

Tricky Grin

Picked up a decent 2nd against bottom level conditioned company on Thursday, but facing what appears to be a better crew here in the claiming ranks tonight.  Would need his very best.

7

It’s Fun

His local debut was anything but fun after getting trounced in a MUCH tougher spot, should find the drop into claiming company much more to his liking.  One of several with a shot in here.

8

Casino Ace A

OH invader taking substantial plunge in class tonight into our bottom level, after having stamina problems in the last several.  Class relief should wake him up a bit.  Must respect.

9

Imadragon

Held his own against similar in OH recently, and appears to have some early speed if Wrenn elects to put him in play from way out here.  Price should be right as well, I’m willing to take a flier here in WIDE open race.

10

Rosalie’s Smile

Looked like she was home free after sweeping to the lead turning for home on Thursday, only to be mowed down in deep stretch.  Still a solid effort, no question she fits with these.
