Red Mile Race Reviews

Sunday, August 18th

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                4-2-1

1

Capital Baby

Raced evenly here 2 starts back, and now lands on the pole tonight in short field.  Only 1 for 49 the last 2 years, but her best effort should put her in play for the minor awards.

2

Arlene Alice

Held her own here on Thursday, finishing up a failry even 4th.  Maybe a bit softer spot tonight.  Must respect.

3

Hoosier Dr Debby

Came up empty in both local tries.  Retains longshot status.  Hasn’t hit the board in 2 years.  Pass.

4

Georgian Jiffyjane

Put in a nice rally to finish 3rd in a big mile here on Thursday, and now she lands in what is likely the softest spot she has faced since arriving locally.  Her pink gear better be shined up tonight for the win photo.

5

West Coast Arturo

12yo mare is getting a little long in the tooth, and hasn’t had much to offer in 2 local tries.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

6

Ann’s Obsession

Raced evenly against males in her only local start 3 back, and ends up in what should be a much softer spot tonight in short field.  Her best effort would put her in the mix.  Your call.

Race 2                     Selections                                3-1-5

1

Big Town Arizona

Takes a drop down tonight after getting caught up in a couple of quick miles recently.  Lands on the pole in what should be a much more manageable spot.  Must respect.

2

Duke Towne

Absolutely came to a stop around the far turn here on Thursday in his local debut.  Lands back in short field, but would have to find a LOT more stamina to contend for any of the major awards.

3

JV’s Bad Boy

Not quite sure what is going on here, gelding put together a solid campaign last year and made a break in his only appearance almost 3 months ago in ’13.  His AM efforts are ‘ok.’  No question he fits with these if he is on his game.  I’m willing to take a flier.

4

Stone Cold Fever

Never got involved on Thursday, would take a complete turnaround here.  Pass.

5

Bongo

Grinded by down the lane on Thursday to get up in the final strides as the fav.  Certainly an improved effort, but likely a short price looming here after the win.  I’ll look for more value elsewhere.

6

Twotwenty Power

Picture perfect journey here on Thursday, after following #5 up en route to a 3rd place finish.  Winless in the last 2 seasons, but she does have some underneath finishes.

Race 3                     Selections                                3-4-1-8                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Lipstick Rose

Trotted evenly against some tough foes on the east coast since changing barns 2 starts back.  Lands in a much more comfortable spot locally.  Should enjoy the stretch out to the mile oval.

2

B Q Bull

Has flashed early speed at times, but stamina continues to be the main concern.  Ended up a distant 4th last time against similar company.  That’s about the best I could see him in here as well.

3

Richesse Oblige

Had a win here in her freshman campaign, but yet to have much luck in 4 starts this season.  No question facing a lot easier task tonight though.  I’m willing to give her a try.

4

Floating Ivy

Impressive to hold on for 2nd last time behind a heavy fav after getting parked for a long way.  Should continue to improve tonight in his 2nd start back of the season.  He fits with these.

5

Klassic Kanidate

Soundly defeated in his local debut, would really have to pick things up.  Not for me.

6

Swiss Alps

Lost all chance with a break in the first turn here last week, and he hasn’t been sharp since returning to the races in his 3yo campaign.  I’ll wait until we see him begin to turn the corner.

7

Patty Says So

Local Q’fer was just ‘ok,’ and it’s been a while now since we’ve seen Patty in action at Hoosier.  Her best effort would put her in play, but I’m not sure if she will be ready to fire just yet.  I’ll watch one.

8

I Need Your Help

Blasted to the top last time, only to tire a bit down the lane in finishing 3rd.  Likely leaving again tonight from way out here.  3rd start for new connections and 6th start on the season.  Should continue on the improve.

Race 4                     Selections                                8-4-5-9                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Donteventry Topass

Certainly an intimidating name, but no one heeded his threat because they all passed him after being on the front last time.  Would have to find a LOT more stamina.

2

Real Party

Broke stride the last time we saw her and followed it up with a scratched ‘lame.’  Not typically a recipe for success.  Hard for me to see her crashing this party.

3

Laredos Goose

The Goose hasn’t really fired his best effort since arriving locally, and faces another field of tough rivals tonight.  Not sure I can see him threatening for the major awards in here.

4

Imadragon

Had plenty of clearance last time, just not enough pace to stick with his rivals.  Might be a bit better here in his 2nd local start.  11yo has an impressive resume which includes 60 LT wins.

5

Fun Time

I know he shows an easy win last time out as a heavy fav, but I must say I wasn’t overly impressed with that effort.  Never really looked comfortable in the mile.  Still, anything similar puts him in the mix.

6

Tricky Grin

12yo only has one 2nd place finish to show for 14 seasonal starts.  Might be a notch or two below the top ones in here.  I’ll pass for now.

7

Did It My Way

Outpaced last time, and would have to find a lot more in the tank to remain competitive with these.  Pass.

8

Our Little Pilgrim

Sharp effort to get up for the win last time, and he seems to have really rounded the corner since arriving locally a couple of starts back.  No question he will be flying late once again.

9

Glad to be Here

Picked up the pieces against conditioned company last time to grind by for the victory.  Lands in a spot where he should have some success in his 3rd start for new connections.  Maybe.

Race 5                     Selections                                2-4-8                       $5,000 Guaranteed Pick 4 Pool                             See Ticket at the end

1

Fourstars Gina

Finished far behind last time, but keep in mind she was facing a very nice KYSS filly there.  Lands in what should be a more manageable spot here.  But still needs to pick things up a bit to contend for the major awards.

2

My Roberto

7yo continues to improve with each start after that long layoff, including a solid 2nd place finish last time behind a very heavy fav.  Should keep getting better, I would expect him to blast out once again.  Lots to like.

3

Fiddle in the Band

Well beaten in each of her local tries, can’t endorse her against these.  Pass.

4

Checkout Terror

Freshman filly was under conservative handling in what was essentially her 1st LT start, and we may get a more aggressive steer tonight.  Should continue to improve.  Maybe.

5

Breakwater

2yo appears to have taken a break in his first 3 career tries.  He is bred to go, from the nation’s leading sire SBSW.  His dad holds the track record here in 1:46.4  Maybe this guy can improve, but still needs more.

6

Cicely Hanover

Well beaten here in the AM, and had been on the shelf 3 months prior.  I’ll watch one first.

7

Ivy’s American

A nice even effort here on Thursday, but I still think she is a notch or two below the favs in here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

8

Magnifique

Held her own against some tough company at The Big M to begin her racing career, and should really enjoy the class relief here locally.  Not much on taking a 2yo that you know is likely coming from far back though.

9

I Be Da One

Certainly continues to improve with each start, but still appears to be a notch or two below the favs in here.  I’ll pass for now.

10

Mighty Unstoppable

Making career debut from way out here.  Q’fer’s don’t look overly impressive.  Not for me.

Race 6                     Selections                                8-4-7

1

Flatrock Flower

Fairly solid local debut here on Thursday night to finish 3rd.  Doesn’t seem like the type that likes to win a lot, but should sit close from the pole and is a big threat for the minor awards.  Your call.

2

Maxaman

Never been much of a threat for the top honors, as he remains winless in 30 career starts.  He IS better than he has shown recently, but I’ll wait until we see some signs of life.

3

Don’t Muff It Up

Made a break at the start in his only local try, I would assume they will just be looking to put a flat mile in him tonight.  I’ll pass for now.

4

Steffi S

Trotted evenly against some tough company in lower level east coast stakes to begin her career.  Should find this spot much more to her liking, and continue to improve.

5

Mitey Savage

Yet to hit the board in 11 starts this season, can’t really see that changing here.  Pass.

6

Elzane

Hasn’t been overly sharp against similar company since arriving locally, but probably facing one of the easiest crews she has met to this point.  Might fair a bit better, but still not sure it will be enough.

7

Shawnee Gold

Debuted with a solid effort here last week, where it appeared she was going to be 2nd for a while before she shortened up just a bit late in finishing 4th.  No question she will continue to get better.  Must respect.

8

Morgans Majestic

Not sure what happened to make this guy tire so badly at Springfield last time as a heavy fav, as he had been unbeaten prior on the IL fair circuit.  No doubt he will be BLASTING out early.  Catch him if you can.

9

Whats The Plot

No luck against similar company recently in OH, and lands on the far outside tonight without any early speed.  Not sure I like that scenario.  Pass.

Race 7                     Selections                                6-2-1-4                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Bettor’s Jackpot

Rode the cones to an even 3rd place finish last time in his debut for new connections.  Lands on the pole here at same level, any similar effort should put him close once again.

2

Blueridge Hera

Completely folded up last time after tracking the eventual winner throughout.  Would take a complete turnaround.  Pass.

3

Lacys Friskie Gal

Parlayed a perfect trip behind the eventual winner last time into a very close 2nd place finish.  Not quite sure things will work out that perfectly here, but her best effort certainly puts her in play.  Must respect.

4

Big Man Clyde

Steamrolled an easier crew here last week, and now steps up to face a bit tougher company tonight.  Not sure he is ready to go with the top ones in here just yet.

5

Bluebird Musical

Even effort last time, but was handily defeated by many of these same rivals.  Would be hard for me to see her turning the tables tonight.  Pass.

6

Ellie’s Best Dream

Lost all chance with a break far behind the gate last time.  Not sure what caused that, as she has typically always put in solid efforts.  I’m willing to hop on board once more, I think she is the one to beat.

7

Electric Allie

Had a complete power outage here last time, and there was no backup generator to be found.  Would need a LOT more.

8

Justlikedins

Yet to hit the board in 11 tries this season, would have to pick things up quite a bit to hang with the top ones in here.  Not tonight.

Race 8                     Selections                                1-5-2-9-10                               10 Cent Super Hi Five Wagering

1

Springhouse Rebel

Used hard in his local debut, and still hung in nicely to be a fairly close 5th.  Takes a drop in class tonight, lands on the pole, in his 2nd start off the brief layoff.  All positive indicators.  I’m on board.

2

Cladslast Impression

Dug in well to hold 2nd last time after blazing through some quick fractions on the lead.  No question he has turned the corner a bit since arriving locally.  Needs his very best once again.

3

Paul the Powerful

Takes a step back up off an even 3rd place finish, will have to find more pop on the end of his miles.  Not sure he can threaten for any of the major awards in here.

4

It’s Fun

No luck in her fist 2 local tries, would take a complete turnaround.  Not tonight.

5

EJ’s Pocket Rocket

Takes a plunge down in class tonight in his local debut, and he has had some success here in the past as well. Lands in a perfect mid-pack post.  No question the one to beat.

6

Sixgun Galley

Hard to gage from the MI Fair lines, but he will have to prove he has enough ammunition to hang with this crew.  I’ll watch one first.

7

McBlack

Completely packed it in last time after being used hard early.  Takes a bit of a drop down tonight, but would still need to find a lot more.  Making his 2nd start for new connections.

8

Awink andagrin

No match against similar company last week after a perfect trip, would have to pick things up quite a bit to threaten for any of the major awards tonight.

9

Four Starz Q

Honestly had no excuse to tire last time as a heavy fav after getting things his own way on the front end.  Just not in great form right now.  I can endorse him underneath only.

10

Ohnoyou Didn’t

Raced evenly last time against similar company, but things won’t get any easier after landing on the outside of a solid group tonight.  Maybe a shot at the minor awards once again.  Your call.
