Red Mile Race Reviews
Sunday, August 26th
Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt
Race 1 Selections 4-1-7-5
1
Allgrownup
Didn’t look comfortable
early in that last start at Batavia
and eventually made a break before absolutely charging home on the end of it
to pick up 5th. Should
improve with the stretch out to the mile track.
2
Youknow whatilike
Trotted evenly to finish up
5th behind a couple of KYSS horses last start, but has hooked a
fairly tough crew again tonight. Needs
his very best even to pick up any of the minor awards.
3
Dew Drop Dolly
Tired late after getting
caught up in a fairly big mile the other night, but things aren’t going to
get any easier tonight against a couple of very nice fillies. Needs more.
4
D’orsay
Talented 3yo may be just a
cut below the top tier, but she still packs plenty of speed and appears to
have landed in a very comfortable spot for her local debut. Looks to have them over a barrel here.
5
Diamonds R Us
Barn has been on a roll
recently, and this filly makes her first start locally after shipping in from
Saratoga. Shows a couple of nice wins earlier in the
year, needs her very best punch here.
6
S M’s Terminator
Has had some stamina
problems in his local tries, and would have to turn things around quite a bit
to keep from getting terminated against these.
7
Rock With It
6yo makes his 2nd
start with lasix, but has been off for over 2 months coming in. Q’fed very well against a couple of nice
KYSS colts though. Should have a big
shot behind the fav.
Race 2 Selections 2-6-4-7
1
Fort Riley
Hasn’t been competitive here
thus far. Pass.
2
Quarantine S
No question she packs the
most speed in the race, but has had multiple breaking problems throughout the
season. Will she stay trotting? Yes….No… Maybe. Your guess is as good as mine. Watch her on the track closely.
3
Marisela
Tired after leaving quickly
from post 10 last time, and shouldn’t have to work nearly as hard from post
3. If the fav made a mistake, her best
effort would put her right in the mix.
4
Wesley Gayle
A nice even effort last time
in only her 3rd career start, and she should continue to improve
with each try. Yet another that has a
shot at the minor awards.
5
Klassic Kanidate
I must admit, this guy
trotted much better than I gave him credit for last time with a very solid 3rd
place finish behind the favs in there.
Faces a big fav here as well, but any similar effort gives him a
chance to be in it.
6
Georgie Mae
Georgie faced a tough task
in making her career debut against stakes company, but she managed to hold
her own against a solid group. Looks
good to go in here other than #2.
7
MJ’s Wings Away
Lightly raced 5yo invades
from Columbus,
and has held his own in some even efforts against similar company there. Was beaten by a very nice filly last time
in Supreme Day. Certainly a shot
underneath. TS opted to #2.
8
JohnJohn Hilltopper
Couldn’t keep up with a
speedy group last time, and I am going to wait until we see some improvement
before hopping on board.
Race 3 Selections 1-6-2-7
1
Ashley Force
Absolutely destroyed a
fairly weak crew here Thursday, and since she entered on the morning before
her win she gets back in the same class.
If she shows back up with a similar effort here, could be a long night
for the rest of these.
2
Georgian Jiffyjane
Didn’t get a chance to race
until very late last time, and picked off some tired ones when she finally
got through. I know she is better than
what we have seen here recently. Wake
up call coming?
3
Move on B B
A decent effort over the
track 2 starts back, but she has landed in a fairly tough group for this
level on her return to the red clay.
Needs even more.
4
Cherchez Bluegrass
Came up sick last time in
what should have been her first start in a long while, and I’ll have to watch
one first.
5
Scenic Bay
Hasn’t had a lot of stamina
recently. Pass. Whisman opted to #7 instead.
6
Baby Blue Pajamas
Absolutely tortured from
post 10 against a tough group of $2.5k claimers last time, and this Red Mile veteran
should find this spot to be much more to her liking. Any smoother journey puts her right in the
mix.
7
F K Beautiful
A nice even effort to be 4th
against similar company last time, and I would expect another off the pace
rally here. Maybe. Whisman opted here over #5.
8
Scootin in Secret
You would have to think she
has been facing some decent company in those classes at Raceway, but she
doesn’t appear to have had a lot to offer on the end of it lately. I’ll watch one first.
Race 4 Selections 7-6-3-4
1
Moreagio
Doesn’t appear to pack the
speed to hang with these.
2
Rose Run Monica
Offstride far behind the
gate in her local debut, but this mare has the speed to do well in this spot
if she minds her manners. Likely to be
over bet though with the connections.
I’ll look elsewhere, not worth the risk.
3
Manaloha
Tired late last time, but he
does appear to be improving with each local start. This is not an overly tough group
here. Your call.
4
Lockup Jazz
Michigan invader has had some stamina issues recently, and
the bigger track could potentially help.
We’ll see.
5
Faster N Funk
Has shown some ability in
the past, but now ships in off a 2 month break and was having some major
breaking issues prior to the layoff.
Not good indicators.
6
Roscoes Rib Rack
Appears to have landed in
another soft group, and he did race much better last time than his first
local try. One of several that could
win in here.
7
Maid Great
A nice 3rd place
finish against similar last time, getting by #6 in deep stretch. Should continue to improve in her 2nd
over the track. I’ll take a shot.
Race 5 Selections 4-5-7-8
1
Blueridge Classic
Wasn’t close in his 1st
start back on the season, and would have to pick it up quite a bit. I’ll watch another.
2
Kacy’s Photo
Added lasix in the AM, but
still appeared to have trouble finishing her mile. Would take a lot more stamina to hang with
this crew.
3
Maxaman
Made a break last time after
making an easy lead from post 8. Came
back to Q’fy decent, and lands in a spot where he could have some luck if he
stayed flat. That’s a big IF.
4
Kentucky Freeze
Looked home free last time
before getting mowed down in the final stride by a nice 2yo. Lands back in what appears to be a much
easier group tonight. Looks like a
nice spot to break the ice.
5
Rose Run Melanie
Rode the cones to a nice
even effort against a tougher crew in her last, and any similar effort puts
her right in the mix.
6
Lil Miss Brinley
Had some severe stamina
issues on the fair circuit, I’ll wait for some improvement.
7
Winky’s Truffle
Lone 2yo in the group has
some decent AM efforts, but nothing that really stands out at this
point. I would expect a conservative
steer in her first career try. May
pick off some tired ones late.
8
Ranggo Kid
Yet to hit the board in 3 LT
tries, and shows back up after 2 months on the shelf tonight. Not an overly tough group, but not sure
I’ve seen enough to endorse the kid just yet.
Race 6 Selections 5-4-10-7 Start of the Pick 4 See
ticket at the end
1
Princess Wendy
I had been waiting on this
mare to put in a good effort, and she finally did show some improvement in
the AM. Still needs to prove she can
stay flat under the lights, and this is a tough group regardless. Not tonight.
2
Kellytuck Yo
Has had some bad luck with
the post draws in OH, and lands in our bottom condition for his first local
start. No question he fits in this
spot. Maybe.
3
KB’s Brock
An even 3rd place
finish last time, but he is subject to be overbet a bit back in this
spot. One of many that could win if
things set up perfectly for him.
Stiltner opted here over #9.
4
Fox Valley Blitzen
11yo yet to hit the board in
5 starts on the year, but I was a fan of the Q’fer and he has plenty of back
class to work from. Not an overly
tough group. Ready to pop in
here? Maybe.
5
Rocknroll Herman
Tired a bit late after a
tough first over journey in his last, and takes yet another drop into our
bottom condition here. Any smoother
journey should put him very close.
6
Singlemalt whiskey
Far behind #1 in the Q’fer,
and not sure he is ready for these right now.
Pass.
7
Realiscape
Far back in a quick mile
last time, and is another that takes a plunge into our bottom level. Should continue to improve in his 5th
start back on the year. Must
respect.
8
Lighting Reno
Yet to strike locally. I’ll wait until we see some signs of
life.
9
In the Money
I gave him a try on
Thursday, and he didn’t race all that great but keep in mind that was his
first start back in almost 4 months.
Should continue to improve, but he doesn’t have a lot to show for 65
LT starts.
10
SBD First Blood
Got caught up in a wicked
early pace in the last, and takes a substantial drop into the bottom level as
well. Barn had another fresh MI winner
on Thursday. Live longshot? Maybe.
WIDE open to kick off the Pick 4.
Race 7 Selections 1-4-6-5
1
JB’s Cutie
Absolutely exploded by her
rivals late last time to pull off the 45-1 shocker, after being pinned in for
a moment around the far turn. Lands in
an absolute WIDE open mini-series final crap shoot here. I like her right back.
2
Yank My Rope
Picked up a couple of checks
against these lately, but going to have to step it up a bit still if she is
going to make any major noise. I’ll
wait for a better spot.
3
Pocket Belle
Hasn’t been able to hang
with the top mares lately at this level, and I don’t see that changing in
wide open field tonight. Stiltner
opted to #9 instead.
4
Vivianne
Smith put her on the point
last time through a quick early tempo, and the fractions took their toll late
as she faded to finish 4th as the fav. No question she fits with these. Price should be even better. I can make a case.
5
My Surfer Girl
If you had told me she was
going to be 8-1 in the mini-series final after her first local start, I
would’ve told you that you were crazy.
Turns out, I’m crazy bc that’s just what she is. One of many with a big shot.
6
Jo Jo’s Circus
Appears to have finally
rounded the corner in her last couple, coming up only a half length short to
#10 last week. Lands in a perfect
mid-pack post. No doubt the circus
will be coming to town late. JN opted
to #1.
7
Hoosier GB Diamond
A bit disappointed that she
couldn’t go ahead and win off the picture perfect journey last time, as #1
came flying by in the final strides.
If she can’t win off that, I’m not sure she can beat these.
8
Trishie Mae
Closed well after sitting in
the back through a quick opening half to finish 3rd behind
#10. Not a bad effort, but she is
likely going to be sitting far back once again. Will they heat it up early for her? Good question.
9
West Coast Arturo
Raced better from the pole
last time, but moves all the way out to post 9 now for the final. Not sure I like that scenario. Stiltner opted here over #3.
10
Willing Heart
Dug in gamely down the lane
to fight off #6 for a well deserved victory.
Her reward? Drawing post 10 in
the claiming final. No question she
has to go forward off the gate. Asking
quite a bit to win from out here.
Race 8 Selections 3-6-4-9
1
Blue Star Majesty
Takes a large drop from $5k
down to $2.5k for the first time, and also changes barns. Didn’t race all that badly first over last
time. Not sure I like the drop in
class and switching trainers at the same time. Hmmm….
2
All is Saidanddone
Had plenty of pace to chase
here on Thursday, and couldn’t make a dent in the margin. Appears to have landed in a bit of a softer
group here, but would still need a lot more.
3
Irish Big Guy
Hmmm… what to do, what to
do? He never looked comfortable before
eventually going into a break last time and now he drops into our bottom
claimer. No question he is tons the best
if he is anywhere close to right. A
lot of red flags go up, but I’m going to try him out unless I see something
that I don’t like in the post parade.
4
Megawatt
Ended up passing a few tired
ones late in what was a big mile last time, and lands in yet another WIDE
open field as part of our $5k Pick 4.
Should be charged up late once again.
5
Mor Than Enuf Russ
Raced evenly behind a heavy
fav in small field, and only finished a couple of lengths behind #9 for 2nd. Plenty of options from perfect mid-pack
post here. Maybe. Loney opted to #9 instead.
6
Presidential Sam
OH invader had been holding
his own prior to the last start at Scioto, and I think he may have a shot in
here at what should be a decent price.
7
Hezasonof eclipse
Hasn’t had a lot of success
since arriving locally, and he will need to find a lot more stamina to hang
on for a piece late.
8
Theprincess deals
Came up empty in her local
debut, and even though there is no question that she has proven she can go
with these in the past, it’s hard for me to jump back on board after
witnessing that.
9
Leadmeto thetruth
Followed the heavy fav last
time, and was able to use the perfect trip to hold off his rivals and finish
up a nice 2nd. The price
was good that night, but you won’t get anywhere near that in this spot. True story.
10
Sailors Sky
Flattened out after trying
to make a big move Thursday, and wasn’t done any favors with the post draw
for tonight. I’ll wait until we see
some signs of life.
Race 9 Selections 7-3-1-8
1
Springhouse Rebel
Another solid effort by the
Rebel on Thursday, but he seems to hang instead of go on by horses in deep
stretch. Lands in another similar
crew, and should be close once again.
2
Paddy Malone
Nearly pulled off the 34-1
upset last time, coming up only a neck short to finish 3rd. Should continue to improve in his 2nd
start over the track. Barn has been
doing fairly well since arriving in town.
3
Paradise Ragtime
Finally showed some spark
last time after leaving hard, and racing evenly on the end to finish up 5th. Appears to finally be heading in the right
direction. I can make a case
here.
4
Dugan Run Dream
Couldn’t get the job done
off an absolutely picture perfect trip last week as the 4-5 fav, and it’s
hard for me to play him on top after watching him let that one slip
away. Underneath only.
5
Theshadow nose
Appears to be spotted in a
tough crew. Pass.
6
Gran Hiratzka
Raced evenly here 2 starts
back, but takes a step up into a bit tougher group tonight. Not against these.
7
Jate O’del
Barn starting to heat up
recently, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Jate got his act together soon as
well. Needs his very best. I’m on board.
8
Ab’s Beach Boy
Worked hard to make the lead
in only his 2nd start back on the season, and that took its toll
late as he faded to finish 5th.
Another that will pop up with a BIG effort one of these nights. Is that tonight? He loves this track.
9
Roll on Home
Yet to hit the board in 10
seasonal tries, but gelding drops into a spot where he should be competitive
locally. Certainly has his work cut
out from post 9 though. Your
call.
Race 10 Selections 2-3-4-8
1
Lucky Deuce
The deuce lands inside
tonight, and should be able to sit close and save all the ground. I’m still not even sure that could help him
land a spot on the ticket though.
Solid crew.
2
Jena-Mac Love
A nice 3rd place
effort against an even tougher group last time, and now this mare drops into
a class where her stablemate was victorious last week. Any similar effort puts her right in the
mix.
3
Country Strong
Another solid performance
last time, although he disappointed some of his backers in finishing 2nd
as the heavy fav. No shame in getting
beat by that one though, and he should be close once again. On a roll since arriving.
4
Her Misconduct
Perfect trip right behind #3
last time, but held in very well to finish up a solid 3rd at a
nice number. Appears to be finally
rounding back into form, has hit the board in 10 of 15 this year. Must respect.
5
Electrician
Had a power outage at the
top of the stretch last week. Needs
more.
6
Here Kitty Kitty
NY invader has raced evenly
against similar company there, and she does have a win over this track last
year as a 2yo in what I remember as an impressive performance. Should improve in her return.
7
Black Blitz
Lands in a much easier spot
than the shark tank she landed in last time, but still going to have to prove
she can go with the top ones in here as well.
8
Lady Cambest
Should continue to improve
in her 3rd start back off the extended layoff, and I would assume
Smith will put her in play early once again.
Maybe.
9
Jazzmarazz
Added lasix last time at
Indy, but outsprinted in what turned out to be a quick mile. Shouldn’t face anything that tough in here,
but would still have to pick it up a bit.
I’ll watch one first.
10
Become Legendary
Ended up 5th
against many of these same rivals last time, and is another that has his work
cut out for him from far outside without much early turn of foot. I’ll wait for a better spot.
Race 11 Selections 2-7-8-4-5 10 CENT SUPER
HI FIVE
1
Show Me Some Skin
Couldn’t keep up with stakes
company on Thursday, but lands in a much more comfortable spot here in
overnight action. Should sit close
from the pole. Needs her very best
still.
2
Goodtimin Cam
Raced large in his first
local start after making a break at the start, and he appears to have turned
things around a bit since adding lasix.
I’m willing to take a shot here at what should be a nice price.
3
Bazinga
Hard to gage off the lone
start at OH fair, but he was a well beaten 3rd. I’ll watch one over the big track
first.
4
Art’s Chance
Raced evenly on Thursday,
and appears to be continuously improving in each start. Not an overly tough group here, no question
there is a chance.
5
Muncie
Followed the eventual winner
last start, and raced fair to end up finishing 5th. Certainly a step in the right direction,
and I’ll watch him closely once more before hopping on board.
6
It’s True
Parked every single step of
the mile last time, and expectedly tired late. I would expect a much more conservative off
the pace try here. Maybe pick off some
tired ones late.
7
Forever Kissed
2yo has hit the board in 4
of 5, and has predominantly been facing stake company in OH to begin his
career. No question he is the one to
beat, but I may take a shot to do just that with a short price looming.
8
Papasgothe bestgo
Closed decently after
fanning out wide last time to finish up a nice 3rd. Has some early speed if Decker elects to
step on the gas. Not sure if he has
the best go, but he’s definitely got enough go to hang with these.
