Red Mile Nightly Selections

Sunday, August 3, 2014

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                                                         Selections                                                8-6-4-9

1

Nothing But Good

Wasn’t overly impressive in career debut at local fair, but didn’t do anything wrong either.  Using this as a prep for stakes action next week.  Should continue to improve.

2

Rompaway Hustler

Another that likely wanted a start under his belt before KYSS action next week.  Trotted evenly in Q’fer but would likely have to pick things up a lot more here in quick 4 day turnaround.

3

Belles Big Stick

First time starter has finished a distant last in both AM works, not sure she is ready to stick with these just yet.

4

Glock Nine Justice

Decent local AM work with trainer in the bike, and should be poised and ready to go for his first try under the lights.  Maybe.

5

Skeeter P

Skeeter was far back in only AM try, I’ll watch one first.

6

Tres Bien As

Indy invader has been hooking up with stakes company in last couple at Hoosier, this should be a monumental drop in class.  Any similar effort puts her squarely in the mix.

7

Skyway Pleasure

Hasn’t shown any quick speed to this point, and I will wait until we see some signs of improvement.  Pass.

8

B Prayer

Absolutely annihilated her foes in Columbus Q’fer last time, and lands in what appears to be a comfortable spot for her career debut tonight.  Lots to like.

9

Garland Fortuna

Never got involved in his only actual try at Hoosier, and should find this spot much more to his liking.  Still needs to pick it up a bit.

Race 2                                 Selections                                                2-1-3

1

Rever Ever

Put together a nice resume in ’13, but hasn’t found his best stride yet in 3 starts this season.  No question an easier spot here, but still needs to pick things up a bit.

2

TouchMy Muscles

Has held his own against some top level trotting company in Columbus, lands in what appears to be a much more manageable spot here.  Must respect.  Kauffman opted here over #3.

3

Baby Blaze

Classy 7yo has won a quarter of his LT starts (22 of 88), but arrives into tonight off 3 weeks on the shelf and a scratched sick.  Will he be on top of his game?  Not sure.  Kauffman opted to #2 instead.

4

Big Cookie

Lone mare likes this track and she will have some success here this season, but this is WAY too tough of a spot tonight.  Pass.

5

Bristol

Connections had some success here last year, but it’s a bit tough to gage this Canadian invader.  Wasn’t overly impressive in his stay in Columbus.  Your call.

Race 3                                 Selections                                                1-5-4-9

1

Kung Fu Jolt

Slammed with outside posts recently against similar company in OH, but I suspect he will get involved a lot earlier here after landing on the pole.  Needs his very best.

2

Art Genta

Hasn’t packed much of a punch on the end of his miles recently, and keep in mind he is 0 for 18 so far on the season.  Will have to find more stamina to hang around with these.

3

Indelible

Not sure what has happened, but this guy has really turned the corner lately.  However, connections opt to drop him in class off those efforts?  Something doesn’t sound right.  I’ll try to beat him.

4

Scoot Diablo

Diablo has been on a US Tour this year, so far with stops in South Fla, Eastern KY, and Northern OH.  No question he can go with these when he is on top of his game.  Maybe.

5

Preferred Stock

Red Mile veteran likes this track, and typically offers a good late kick here.  Made an uncharacteristic break last time.  Needs a big rebound.

6

Presidential Sam

Sam was racing evenly against similar company at Scioto before those last couple of stops at the fairs.  Lands in ultra competitive group here.  Your call.

7

Kilo Shark

Yet another OH invader, will have to have his very best.  Tough spot.

8

Kilo Dream

Lone mare lands in against the boys tonight and is likely going to be sitting far back.  0 for 20 on the season.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

9

Fox Valley Largo

Probably going to be overlooked coming from two smaller KY tracks, but keep in mind he comes from a live barn and has hit the board in 13 of 20.  Should offer BIG value.

Race 4                                 Selections                                                8-4-2-1

1

Infiniti As

Lone 2yo added hobbles in his local AM try, and that appeared to solve those breaking problems prior.  Had plenty of trot on the end of his mile.  Anything similar to that should put him in the mix here.

2

Big Valley Speed

Has a couple of solid 2nd place finishes to show for his 2 career tries in Indy, and lands in what should be a similar spot here.  Should continue to improve.  Must respect.

3

Morgan Glide

Darted out here in the fair last week, but completely came to a stop down the lane in a distant last place finish.  Has proven that he is better than that, but I’ll watch one before hopping on board.

4

Bet I Strike

Lightly raced 4yo absolutely flew home in behind a couple of solid rivals in local AM try, moving to the big track here should aid him with those breaking issues prior.  Live longshot?  Maybe.

5

My Country Girl

Hasn’t been overly impressive in the conditioned claiming ranks at Hoosier, and would take a complete turnaround to hang with the top ones in here.  Not tonight.

6

Berto Adalina

Only missed a head in a close 2nd place finish 2 starts back against similar company in Chi-town, before getting caught up in a tough spot last time at Hoosier.  This should be more to her liking.  She fits with these.

7

Vicalicious

Haven’t seen anything to get excited about in Indy preps, I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

8

Rompaway Gypsy

Added Lasix prior to the last start at Hoosier, which really seemed to wake her up en route to a nice 3rd place finish.  Should continue to improve, lands in what appears to be a fairly soft spot here.  I’m on board.

9

Natural Power

Finished far back here in Fair action last week, and gets slammed with outside post tonight.  Tough assignment.

Race 5                                 Selections                                                2-3-4-7

1

Allie Oakley

Has been holding her own against mares in claiming ranks at Scioto, but lands in what appears to be a bit better group in her move to local conditioned company.  I could consider her for the minor awards only.

2

Spill the Beans

I hate to spill the beans, but if he can’t beat this spot than he likely won’t win a race here this season.  Not sure why he came up empty last time, but prior starts were all solid.  Has earned more this season than the rest of the field…. Combined.  Put a circle around him.

3

Leaf Nation

Bluegrass Downs invader has been facing some pretty solid company recently at the Preferred level, and I’m willing to hop on board and try him in behind the fav.

4

Excellence in Arts

Has been even lately against similar company in OH, and might be able to work out a nice trip in here behind the fav if he elects to flash his customary early speed.  Should be close.

5

Hereiam Coolwater

Mare has improved with each of her Paducah starts, but likely going to need another start or two before we see her very best.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

6

Rocknroll Wannabe

Note the barn change tonight, and this guy should like stretching out to the mile oval.  Still has an 0 for 38 resume the last couple of seasons, I can’t hop on board just yet.

7

Pleasant Rio

Has been chasing the razor sharp Clooney recently at Bluegrass, and is another that should improve with the stretch out to the mile oval.  Possibly a shot at the minor awards.

Race 6                                 Selections                                                5-8-9                                                            $5,000 Pick 4 Starts Here                                     See Ticket at the End

1

Greyson

Had to contend with a couple of outside posts recently on small Canadian track, and may improve on the stretch out to the mile oval here.  I could consider him for the minor awards.

2

Ponda Watts

Has been ‘ok’ against similar company in Paducah, but lands in what appears to be an even tougher group tonight.  Would need to pick things up quite a bit still.

3

First Frost

First time starter got mowed down late in local Q’fer, and is probably asking a bit too much for him to go with this crew at first asking.  I’ll watch one first.

4

Doc’s Hobo

Added Lasix in his seasonal debut here last week at the Fair, but still finished far behind #5 in there.  Would have to find a lot more to contend for any of the major awards.

5

Bob O Link

Broke through with a bold move to pick up his first career win here last week, and the 3yo does have a year on his main rival tonight (#8).  I’m willing to hop on board.

6

A Red River Runner

Hasn’t been overly impressive against maidens at smaller KY tracks, and things aren’t going to get any easier here.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

7

Brother Dan

First time starter 2yo prepping for Kentucky Stakes next week, I would expect a fairly conservative steer here in his career debut with that in mind.  Maybe a shot at the minor awards.

8

Velocity Reign

Freshman filly was vicious in her career debut in stakes action back on 6-26 at Hoosier, but has lacked stamina in her last couple of stakes tries.  HUGE drop into overnight company here, should regain her confidence.

9

Threefold Breanna

You can toss out that last start, after Breanna got parked for the duration upon trying to leave from outside post.  Should be tightened up and ready to roll here, and continue to improve in only her 4th start of season.  Maybe.

10

Delightfully Mine

4yo mare is undefeated in 2 career tries, but we haven’t seen her in an actual race now in over a year.  Q’fers have been ‘ok’, but likely asking a bit much tonight from way out here.

Race 7                                 Selections                                                4-3-2-6

1

Mcardles Star

Hasn’t had much to offer on the end of his miles recently at Bluegrass, and I don’t see things getting any easier here in big bulky field tonight.  Would need a LOT more.

2

Rusty’s Treasure

Lone mare has been holding her own against conditioned company at Northfield including a win in her last try, and anything similar to that effort should put her in the mix tonight as well.  She fits with these.

3

Catmando

Has been in tough since being claimed for 2k back on 7-6 in Paducah, but now drops back into a level where he should have some success.  I would expect him to wake up a bit here.  Maybe.

4

Our Little Pilgrim

13yo veteran has a ton of experience over this oval, and he typically picks up his game a bit here every summer.  Former Red Mile leading driver Dan Noble gets the call, should be tough to beat.

5

Western Guy

11yo is nearing in on $800k in career earnings, but he has yet to find his best stride this season.  Should improve a bit with the stretch out to the big oval, but it won’t be easy.

6

Shakey Slim

Slim has been a notch or two below the best 5k claimers in OH, but should enjoy the class relief here dropping in at our bottom level.  He fits with these.

7

Endeavors Moment

Lands in for a tag tonight for I believe the first time in his career.  Will be interesting to see what tactics Pryor employs, has some early speed if he decides to use it.  Needs his very best still.

8

Hillcrest Domingo

Wired a much weaker crew last out at Bluegrass, but lands in against a much tougher group here.  Not ready to jump on board just yet.

9

Frtne Rd

Had the bad fortune of drawing post 9 in competitive group.  Not for me.

10

Mor Than Enuf Russ

Russ is another that has logged plenty of miles here locally, and typically steps his game up a level or two upon arriving in Lexington.  Tough assignment tonight though from way out here.

Race 8                                 Selections                                                3-10-7-2

1

Big Ape

Completely packed it in in those last couple of tries in Cleveland, and would need a complete turnaround to contend for any of the major awards here.

2

Mattox’s Western

4yo has won a quarter of his LT starts (12 of 48) and packs plenty of early speed, which should ensure that he gets a fairly solid trip in here.  Might provide some value on those dime superfecta tickets.

3

Awinkand aGrin

Absolutely buried in that last start at Scioto, but taking some major league class relief tonight in his local debut.  Should continue to improve in only his 6th start back on the season.  Picks up Noble.  All positive indicators.

4

Sweetlittle Heart

Hasn’t had much luck at Hoosier in the conditioned claiming ranks, and would have to find a lot more pop on the end of it to contend for any of the major awards here.  Not tonight.

5

Sweet Fancy Moses

Local Q’fer was actually pretty solid, but keep in mind she has been on the shelf for over 2 months prior to tonight.  Probably going to need a start before firing her best shot.  Your call.

6

Great Scot

Added Lasix two starts back, but I’ve yet to see any major improvement to this point.  Needs more to go with the top ones in here.

7

Paul the Powerful

Pulled off a couple of stunning upsets here in the past, and should enjoy the return to the big track.  I wouldn’t overlook.

8

McBlack

OH invader does have some early speed, and I would expect Page to be on the gas off the wings to secure good early position.  He could hang around late for a piece of it.  Maybe.

9

Noha

Ended up parked out last time against tough company at Bluegrass, but prior starts were solid against similar company.  Won’t be easy from way out here, but might be worth tossing on the ticket at a big number.

10

Medoland J T

JT has become very good at drawing post 10, this will be his 3rd consecutive try from that slot.  Keep in mind post 10 starts 2nd tier at Scioto, but obviously not here, making matters even worse.  Should have success at this level.

Race 9                                 Selections                                                10-8-5-1

1

Allamerican Comet

Skated into this condition by a mere $5 after making $3,495 over his last 5 starts.  Early speedster should be blasting out to defend the pole.  His best effort puts him squarely in the mix.

2

Ellie’s Best Dream

I’ve always been a big fan of hers, ever since she won her career debut here a couple years back.  Has developed into a nice race mare.  Lands in a tough spot tonight though, needs her absolute very best shot.

3

Ohnoyou Didn’t

Arrives in town in good form from Paducah, but this is a HUGE step up for her against this crew.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

4

Kayleigh’s Future

OH invader has a big sweeping move in her arsenal, and lands in a perfect mid-pack post tonight.  Very competitive group, but she fits with these.

5

Reckoning Day

Throw out that last start where he had a no chance trip in tough spot, but prior efforts have all been sharp against top level company in Western KY.  Is this the right level for him locally? We will see.  I know the price will be right.

6

Winsmith Brianna

Wire to wire winner against a cheap crew last time in Cleveland, and certainly takes a step up to take on better company for her local debut.  Would have to pick things up even more.

7

Island Questor

Might just be the key to the race, because he packs wicked early speed.  Don’t believe he has the stamina to last against these, but will certainly make things interesting if he decides to blast out and try it.

8

Arringarosa

7yo has picked up many of those 9 LT wins right here over the red clay.  He absolutely loves this racetrack, picks up the services of Noble here as well.  No question the one to beat, but likely a short price looming.

9

Awesum Desire

Yet another that has wicked early speed, but also stamina issues.  Hard for me to see her taking back early from post 9, might be part of a blazing early pace as well.

10

The Comedian

If the early speed duel sets up like I figure it might, this comedian might get the last laugh.  Picked up a victory here last year in 1:50.4.  Should be flying late at a big price.  Live longshot?  I think so.

Race 10                              Selections                                                8-1-5-2

1

Tinder

3yo has never been worse than 2nd in 5 career tries.  Hooks up with some older, more experienced foes tonight, but likely the most logical threat if something goes amiss with #8.  I will ‘swipe right’ on him, I’m on board.

2

Bosco’s Angel

Flashed some improvement in that last start for new barn at Scioto, getting beat less than two lengths for the whole thing in a 6th place finish.  Nisonger sticks tonight, maybe a more aggressive steer coming.

3

Delmot

Showed a lot of improvement once adding Lasix last month, but followed that up with an uncharacteristic break.  Not really sure what to expect here, but I’ll watch one first.

4

Jabez

13yo hasn’t been on top of his game the last couple of seasons, sporting a 1 for 44 resume.  Arrives locally in suspect form from OH.  Does pack plenty of early speed, stamina still the main concern.  Noble opted to #8 instead.

5

HerRoyal Highness

Has held her own against tough overnight foes in Jersey, finishing 3rd 2 starts ago against a filly that was in yesterday’s $700k Hambo Oaks.  Likely looking to pounce late.  Must respect.

6

Massasauga

Was actually pretty good the last time we saw him a couple of months back at Thunder Ridge.  Lands in what appears to be deep water tonight though.  I’ll pass for now.

7

Alfredo Dream

Yet to miss the board this season in 5 tries, but also yet to face the type of rivals he has landed in against tonight.  Not quite sure I can endorse him against these.

8

Wheels

No question he is the most talented trotter in the field, but he does have his fair share of problems.  Connections don’t race many here, I’m assuming they wanted to try this guy over the big track.  It’s now or never.  Noble chose over #4.

Race 11                              Selections                                                2-4-3-6

1

Straight Dancer

Nearly lasted on the lead in his last try at the 5k level in Columbus, but opts to take a step up here into the 7.5k ranks.  Looks like one of many with a shot in here at the minor awards behind the fav.

2

The Admiral

Never got involved after drawing outside post in big field last time, but lands in what appears to be a much more manageable spot for his local debut.  Anything close to his best effort makes him the one to beat.

3

Noah C

Hung in there for a close 3rd place finish after an impossible trip on Thursday in Cleveland, and comes back here on short rest.  Anything similar to that last try definitely puts him in play.

4

Major Bet

Knocking heads with some pretty stout company recently in Cleveland, but has held his own including taking a new LT mark only 3 starts back.  Must respect.  Page opted here over #6.

5

Clooney

It’s safe to say Clooney is likely in career best form right now, riding high into town after 3 consecutive down the road blowouts in Paducah.  Facing far better group here though, will have to prove he belongs.

6

Jolts Virtue

Has been even in his 2 Columbus tries for new barn, and arrives locally taking a drop in class to a level where he should have some success.  He fits with these.  Page opted to #4 instead.

Race 12                              Selections                                                2-3-5-4

1

Kiss Me Callie

Callie has been missing some time due to sickness recently, and takes a step up tonight as well.  Barn had most wins here last season, but not sure they can get the job done here.

2

Ohmy Belle

Former KYSS Queen returns to her favorite track to tackle top level company tonight.  No question she lands in a tough crew, but I think she will fire her best shot here in homecoming.  I’m on board.

3

Carmen O

Has been knocking heads with top level claiming and conditioned company in IN, and should find this to be an easier group.  Owns a big late kick.  Must respect.

4

Stellar Steel

Canadian invader is taking a sizeable step up tonight after facing mid-level claiming company recently.  I’ll watch one first.

5

Special Lindy

OH invader has been knocking on the door against tough company recently at Scioto, and lands in a spot where she should be very competitive tonight.  Major player.

6

Caribbean Girl

Arrives in town off a convincing win against Preferred company in Paducah but facing some much better mares here locally.  Not sure she is ready for these just yet.

Race 13                              Selections                                                2-4-3-1

1

Toshie Special

Toshie owns some back class, but keep in mind we haven’t seen her in action in almost 2 years now.  Q’fers were ‘ok’ with trainer in the bike.  Your call.

2

Deo Gloria

Absolutely crushed foes in her local AM work, and has proven she can beat this type of crew in the past.  Should be all systems go here.

3

Kesons Avaia

Early speedster should be blasting off the wings, and we will see how she transitions to the big oval.  Needs her absolute very best.

4

Magnifique

East coast invader never got involved on sloppy track last time from outside post in PA, but should enjoy landing in short field here upon her return to the red clay.  Her best effort puts her squarely in the mix.

5

Best of the Best

Decent against overnight company in Paducah, but taking a big step up here to face what appears to be a much better crew.  Would have to find some improvement.

6

Riverlea Hanover

Q’fer was average, and not really sure what happened in the prior start where she finished far back at Bluegrass.  Only 1 for 48 the last couple of seasons.  I’ll watch one closely for any signs of improvement.

Race 14                              Selections                                                2-4-8-10

1

Justlikedins

Added Lasix a couple of months back, but we’ve yet to see any big improvement.  Likely asking a bit much for her to hang with this crew.

2

Velocity Sonja

Indy invader has held her own with some good company at Hoosier.  Interestingly enough, these same connections campaigned her sire, Art’s Chip.  Should be in line for a nice trip, possibly behind the fav.  I’ll take a shot.

3

Boot Scootn Boogie

Last several starts haven’t been much to get excited about, would take a LOT more.  Pass.

4

Woo Shark

Added Lasix 2 starts back, and finished up a very close 2nd last time on sloppy surface at Scioto.  Appears to be a 2 horse race on paper w/#2.  Take your pick.

5

Springhouse Ms Mac

Rides into town off back to back wins at Bluegrass, but facing far tougher group here.  Not sure she is ready for these just yet.  Shehan opted to #6 instead.

6

I Be Da One

Had some success here last year, but the train has gone off the tracks here recently for whatever reason.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.  Shehan opted here over #5.

7

Doc’s Suzie

Appears to be a notch or two below the top ones in here.  Pass.

8

Gigaro

Well bred 3yo packs some speed if he can mind his manners, and I would expect Tyler Smith to be on the gas early from way out here.  Should contend for the minor awards.

9

Rokingcastle

Tough assignment from way out here.  Not tonight.

10

River Thames

Lightly raced 3yo has flashed improvement since joining new barn in OH 3 starts back.  Nailed home his first career win in that last try.  Any further improvement puts him in play.

Race 15                              Selections                                                1-3-7-2

1

O’Sund land

It took him a little bit, but this guy has developed into a nice race horse.  Absolutely RAZOR sharp right now in career best form.  Faces toughest task of his career tonight maybe.

2

Rock of Luck

Local Q’fer wasn’t overly impressive, and will likely need a start before finding his best stride.  Underneath only.

3

Concert Ticket

Should be part of a pretty good early scrap for the lead with #1.  Has been knocking heads with tough foes all summer in OH.  Definitely fits with these.

4

Cladslast mpression

Knocking on the door recently against lower level conditioned company at Scioto, but likely asking a bit much for him to go with the top ones in here right now.

5

Blueridge Orion

Sporting a 13 for 17 record over the last couple of seasons, but is facing FAR tougher group tonight than he has seen over the course of that streak.  Hard to endorse him against these.

6

Highland Hellion

Similar to #5, seems to be asking a bit much for now.  Pass.

7

Camgran dest

Hard knocking Red Mile veteran is nearing in on a quarter of a million dollars in his career.  Was very good here last summer, appears to be arriving in off good form in OH starts.  Must respect.

8

Tickle My Fantasy

Note the barn change here tonight.  Easy wire to wire winner in last try, but taking a step up to the major leagues here and gets slammed with outside post.  Not positive indicators.

Race 16                              Selections                                                3-2-9-5-8                                                   20-Cent Super Hi Five Wagering

1

Velocity Sandy

Racing evenly against bottom level claiming company at Hoosier, but lands in against a couple of solid rivals for her local debut.  I could consider her for the minor awards only.

2

Jenna’s Dream

Has been a steady campaigner over the last several years in OH, but has had some impossible trips to deal with in his limited starts this season.  Any smoother journey should put him in the mix against these.

3

B L Watta ride

Yet to hit the board in 14 tries this season, but takes a substantial drop for his local debut.  Is he primed and poised for a drop and pop?  I think so.

4

Request to Win

Request denied.  Pass.

5

Lumiere

Another that has found the competition in OH a little too tough, and has landed locally in what should be a substantial plunge in class.  Should have some success here.

6

Milano Grande

Paducah invader should pick things up on her move to the big track, but is still going to need her very best shot to go with the top ones in here.

7

Racey Daisey

No luck in the claiming ranks at Scioto, and lands in a competitive group here as well.  I could consider her for the minor awards only.

8

Reidio Star

Hard to gage her recent form, and for that reason she might fly a bit under the radar here and offer some good value.  I will toss her on the Hi Five ticket.

9

Springhouse Rebel

Chi-town invader owns a pretty good closing kick, and will likely need it after landing way out in post 9.  Should be picking up the pieces late.

10

Real Hanover

12yo has had some success here in the past, but likely going to need a start off that long layoff and to complicate matters he gets slammed with the outside post as well.  I’ll watch one.
