Red Mile Nightly Selections

Sunday, October 2nd

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                2-4-1-3

1

Save Your Best

Nice off the pace rally to be 2nd last time, and filly went down the pipe through some quick fractions in the prior start only to get nailed on the wire.  Certainly fits with these.  Pierce opted to #4 instead.

2

Beach Boy Tiger

In all reality, the 2010 KYSS champ is supposed to beat this field tonight.  Struggled in KYSS action this season, but this is a BIG drop in class tonight and I’m expecting a big wakeup call.

3

Do It Best

Parlayed a perfect pocket trip into a nice 2nd place finish last time, but gelding is going to have to find even more speed to go with the top ones in here.  Your call.

4

Right On Time

Rode the pylons against solid crew last time and finished up nicely to be 4th.  Has been competitive in the open ranks here all season and this is far from open company here.  Must respect.  Pierce opted here over #1.

5

Yank My Rope

Sprinted by a field of claiming mares last time, but lands in a much tougher crew tonight.  Not sure I like how things set up for her in here.

6

Rego Park

Had a perfect pocket ride behind the eventual winner in there last time but could only manage to hang on for 3rd.  Things certainly aren’t going to get any easier in here.  Not for me.

Race 2                     Selections                                1-3-5-8

1

Orlando

I am honestly shocked to look down and see that this guy is still a maiden.  I’ve seen him race big plenty of times on the east coast, and hopefully he can mind his manners here in the return to the big track.  Big shot.

2

Paris Pike

Not sure what happened last time, but mare packed it in late and ended up finishing 2nd after a 32.1 final panel.  Needs a big rebound here, but she appears to have hooked a much tougher crew.  DM opted here over #9.

3

Rules Clear

Followed cover before tipping wide and sprinting away down the lane last time.  That was a fairly comfortable spot for him, and he appears to have landed in another one here.  Maybe.  Pierce opted here over #8.

4

Jessie Ann

OH invader doesn’t appear to pack the speed to go with these just yet.  Pass.

5

Don’t Think Twice

Ended up only a neck back in a thrilling 3-horse driving finish last time, and any similar effort should put her close once again in here.  Has put in some sharp efforts since arriving locally.

6

Laffit

Lightly raced 6yo appeared to be rounding the corner earlier this season, but has ran into some major stamina issues in his most recent starts.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

7

Massasauga

Trotted evenly in last few starts of the regular meet, but hooks a solid crew here tonight for this level.  Not quite sure he is ready to go with these just yet.

8

Onemorelap

Mare threw in a clunker last time, but she has been known to hit the ticket at some big prices since arriving locally and it appears she will be racing from well off the pace once again tonight.  Maybe underneath.

9

Mr Cole

Gelding shows a 55.3 win from earlier this season at The Big M, but seems to have tailed off a bit over the last couple of months.  Not sure I am ready to try him back in this spot.  DM opted to #2 instead.

Race 3                     Selections                                6-3-8-5

1

Abbeylara

Made a break on Jug Day at Delaware, but has held his own against mid-level stakes company on the east coast.  Hooks a fairly tough crew here though, and I’m not sure he is on the same level as the top two.

2

Autumn Escalade

No luck in his first LT start in Columbus, and would need a LOT more to go with these.  Pass.

3

Zall Good

Took down $241k stake last time, and has been dominant against IL breds thus far.  Steps up to take on open company here, and has hooked another nice colt in #6.  Looks like a two horse race.

4

Bruisen N Cruisen

Came up sick in Delaware and that was after a dull effort in PA fair.  Not quite sure he is heading in the right direction, and I’ll watch him tonight.

5

Divulge

Hooked a stellar crew in his only start on a big track in the first start of his career, and has run into some breaking issues on the smaller tracks recently.  Stretches back out here, and should continue to improve.

6

Rockweiller

Has been facing some of the top 2yo’s in the country recently, and drops back into a more manageable spot here.  Should sit close in small field, and any smooth journey makes him the one to beat.  ICE COLD 6-3!

7

Sell the Dream

Appeared to be in over his head in $105k Indy stake last time, and lands back in another solid crew tonight.  I’ll wait for an easier spot.  Pierce opted to #5 instead.

8

Bugsy Malone

KY Sired colt finished up 3rd in $250k final behind two colts that were in the Bluegrass stake here yesterday.  Continues to improve with each LT start, and certainly fits with these.

 Race 4                     Selections                                4-9-3-6

1

Laurent Hanover

Held his own in similar PA overnight levels, but lands in a very competitive crew tonight.  Not sure I can endorse him against these.  Pierce opted to #7 instead.

2

Doc’s Leopard King

Rebounded with a big win last time in a LT best mile in Indy overnight, but has hooked a solid crew here tonight for this level.  One of many with a shot at the minor awards.

3

Melvyn

Gelding has been RAZOR sharp all season, from New Jersey to Canada.  Packs a wicked late kick, but he might end up being first over from post 3 here.  Must respect.  Lachance opted here over #6.

4

Roll’em Up

Has gone some big miles against stakes company on the east coast this season, and should find this to be a very comfortable spot.  I would expect the Minister of Speed, GB, to be on the gas early and often.

5

Bestinthebusiness

MI invader has hit the board in 10 of 11 this season, and arrives in town on a 3 race win streak.  Picks up Tetrick here, and I would expect him to put him in play early.  Still not sure he is on the same level as the top ones though.

6

Mysterious Moment

Game first over try against a heavy fav in Mybrothergeorge on closing night of the early meet, and it appears he may be rounding back into form.  He can go with these when he’s at his best.  Maybe.

7

Major Tipper

Had plenty of pace to chase at Delaware, and took advantage of it with a big late rally to be 2nd.  Not sure if things are going to set up that well for him in here, but is yet another with a shot at the minor awards.

8

EJ’s Pocket Rocket

Got stung a bit making the lead at Delaware, and that certainly took its toll late.  Has been solid in open ranks here all season, and lands in a competitive crew here.  Your call.

9

Hacienda

3yo put in a decent first over bid in tough overnight last time when facing older horses, and has shown plenty enough early speed to overcome post 9 if Luc decides to blast early.  I’ll take a flier.

Race 5                     Selections                                7-1-4-5

1

Sharp West Hanover

Simply toured the oval in his first local start, and had PLENTY of late pace when Lachance angled him to the far outside late to finish 2nd behind the heavy fav.  Certainly no LFA in here, and I think it’s a good time to hop on board.

2

Just Crowned

Parlayed a perfect pocket trip into a score at Delaware on Jug Day, but has landed in a solid crew for his first local start tonight.  Not sure I see things working out that perfectly in here.

3

Lightning Strike

Has been decent in overnight company at Vernon, but appears to have landed in a much tougher spot for his local debut.  Will need even more here.

4

Shellysblockbuster

Only 1 win on the season, but does have 11 on the board finishes to show for 14 starts on the year.  Lands a perfect mid-pack post here, and I would expect another off the pace rally.  Maybe.

5

Sandbar Slugger

Perfect steer from Loney was enough to get the job done two back, and faded badly after a tough first over trip in Delaware last time.  Any smooth journey would put him in the mix here.

6

Upfront Ellijay Ed

Not sure what happened in Delaware to make him disappear as the 8-5 fav, but his prior efforts appear to make him very competitive in here.  Which Ed shows up in here?  Wish I knew.

7

American Romance

Looks like a perfect spot for NYSS colt to drop and pop.  Been facing some very nice colts up that way, and should find to be a very manageable spot.

8

He’s the Bomb

Raced evenly in Indy overnight last time, but it doesn’t appear that he packs the speed to go with the top ones in here.

Race 6                     Selections         5-7-4-1                    Start of $10,000 Pick 4                          See ticket at the end

1

Wind Me Up

Absolutely WIDE open division of the Bluegrass here to kick off the $10kG Pick 4, and I can literally see almost any of these getting the job done under the right circumstances.  This guy has plenty of early speed to protect the inside position, and I would expect DM to wind him up early.  Sears opted to #2 instead.

2

Lookinforadventure

Took a break from butting heads with the best 3yo’s in the country last time, to get nice confidence booster in easy local win.  Back to reality here, and he’s going to need a LOT more.  Sears did opt here over #1.

3

Rhombus

Really rounded into form on the east coast this summer, but he is still going to have to prove that he can take out the best in his class.  I’ll watch one here.

4

Hugadragon

Ended up tiring after having to come first over against the fav in Brown Jug Elim, but has been finishing up behind some very nice colts in stakes company recently.  Another with a big shot in wide open crew.

5

Foreclosure

Stone cold closer returns to the mile track here, and I really think that should benefit him quite a bit.  Has had some bad post draws in the big money finals this year, but should be within perfect striking range in small field here.  Should be firing late!  Tetrick chose here over #6.

6

Mystic Desire

Very impressive effort as the heavy fav last time at The Meadows, and any similar effort would make him a major player here.  Had a big 51.4 win here last year as a 2yo.  Big shot.  TT opted to #5.

7

High Noon

Gelding appears to be a notch or two below the top colts in the country, but has still put up a solid $316k year racing against some of the very best.  Certainly fits here, and is yet another with a big chance.

 Race 7                     Selections                                1-4-7-11

1

Lady Rainbow

Perfect drive by the Z Man got the job done in the $233k Moni Maker last time, and filly has been RAZOR sharp all season, hitting the board in 8 of 9.  Lands on the pole in bulky field.  Lots to like here.

2

Migisi

Picked up her first win of the year as a 27-1 outsider last time, but taking a major step up to tackle the very best fillies in the country here.  Should be a big price once again, just not sure it will produce the same result.

3

Bold and Fresh

Hambletonian Oaks Champ has had some struggles since her big win over the last couple of months, and finally put in a clean line to be 3rd last time out.  Still not sold she is back to herself, and Pierce opted to #4.

4

Cedar Dove

Nice local AM effort to follow up a game mile in the $200k PASS final.  I would expect Pierce to put her in play early this afternoon in big field of 12, and should be able to work out a nice trip here.  I’m on board.

5

Pantholops

Pulled off a 16-1 upset against a couple of nice fillies last time out in a new LT best, and is another that packs plenty of early speed if AM elects to use it.  Will need her very best once again.

6

Firstclassprincess

Needed every ounce of that pocket trip to get by here last Friday, but she did finish up a nice 3rd behind #1 in the $233k Moni Maker in the prior effort.  Going to need a lot more here, picks up GB with TS taking #12.

7

Hey Mister

Coming into today with over a 45 day layoff, as we haven’t seen her since The Big M closed.  She can certainly go with these when she’s at her best, and she should provide plenty of value as well.

8

Cashmere N Caviar

Appeared to be home free before making a break last time, and things certainly aren’t going to get any easier in big bulky field this afternoon.  I’ll pass on her in here.

9

Action on George

Had to come first over against the fav and eventual winner in Delaware last time after having the unfortunate luck of starting in the 2nd tier.  Gets slammed with post 9 here, and she’s going to need a lot more to make any major noise against these from the outside.

10

Crys Dream

Got in a nice tightner here in the AM behind a couple of nice colts, and it will certainly make things interesting with her getting stuck on the outside in huge field here in first heat.  Luc is forced to leave for position, and there is a LOT of speed inside of her as well.  She is a special filly, but I’m just not sure I like how things set up for her in here.  I’ll look elsewhere with a short price looming.

11

Wincinnatti

I can still remember when this filly dead heated with #1 in a stake during GC last year in what was probably the race of the meet.  Made an uncharacteristic break in $121k American Nat’l, but appeared to get back on track with a nice Q’fer.  Her sire, WL, won the KY Futurity from post 11, can she do the same?

12

Lost Symbol

Yet to prove she can go with the top fillies in the country, and gets stuck with post 12 on top of it.  Not sure I like how things set up in here for her.  Her trainer did opt to stay in the bike here over #6.

Race 8                     Selections                                3-9-5-10

1

VC Chocoholic

Should be able to protect his position in here and sit close early.  Not sure he is on the same level as the top ones, but may end up with a nice trip from the rail.  Your call.

2

Opening Night

PASS Champ ended up finishing a nice 3rd in $1.5 million Hambletonian earlier this summer, and is going to need his very best for any similar result here.

3

Manofmanymissions

I still don’t think there is any question that this colt has the most speed of any in the division, but he has a very hard time putting it all together.  Has had a couple of weeks off since making a break in the $1 million Canadian Trotting Derby, and seems to do better with longer breaks in between races.  I’m on board.

4

Big Rigs

Hasn’t been able to go with the top colts in the country thus far, and I’m not sure I see that changing in here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.  Tetrick opted to #6 instead.

5

Broad Bahn

$1.5 million Hambletonian Champ blazed over the track with a stellar AM effort last week, and you can bet Brennan will be on the gas early and often in here.  Catch him if you can!

6

Luckycharm Hanover

Nice effort two back in the $126k Simcoe to be 2nd to Pastor Stephen, and he will need his very best to go with the top ones in here.  Tetrick opted here over #’s 4 & 8.

7

Fawkes

Tough trip in $39k stake at The Meadows last time, but things certainly aren’t going to get any easier today.  Hard to endorse him against these.

8

Whit

Has gotten a couple of local starts under his belt now, and has proven he can go with the top ones when he is at his best.  Any smooth journey should put him close, picks up JJ after TT opted to #6.

9

Dejarmbro

Yet to miss the board in 13 starts this season, and connections are obviously confident of his ability as they opted to supplement.  No luck with the post draw, but always shows up with a big effort.

10

Live Jazz

I’ve been a fan of this colt all year long, but I’m certainly not a fan of post 10 this afternoon.  Nice Q’fying effort, but JC has his work cut out for him.

Race 9                     Selections                                2-1-5-7

1

Autumn Escapade

Mare is RAZOR sharp right now, and lands on the pole in a solid crew.  Should sit very close, and have a big say in here.

2

Action-Broadway

Made an uncharacteristic break on the half at Delaware, but has been sharp prior to that as well.  Looks like it may come down to the trip in here, and she might be able to sit right on #1’s back.  Big shot.

3

Friendly Amigo

Holding her own against overnight company in Canada, but a BIG step up to take on the best older mares in the game this afternoon.  I’ll wait until she hooks an easier crew.

4

Buck I St Pat

Always one of my favorites, but I am just not sure what to do with the winner of over $2.3 million here.  Put in a nice Q’fer last time, but had regressed into a couple of breaks prior to that.  Short price looming here.  Is she worth the risk?

5

Jersey As

Reunited with Brennan here for the first time since teaming up to win on Hambo Day in 51.3.  Has a big late kick, and it will depend on if they get down to the half on time.  Maybe.

6

Swept to Victory

Hard to gage this mare’s recent Sweden and Denmark form, but she didn’t appear to have a lot left in the AM effort against a solid lineup.  I’ll watch her go around once first.

7

Pembroke Heat Wave

Was sitting perfect before making a break at Delaware, and she will need a big rebound to make any major noise in here.  Certainly fits with these when she’s at her best.  Your call.

8

Yursa Hanover

Held her own against some nice trotters recently, but I’m still not sure she is on the same level as the top mares in here.  Gets slammed with post 8 on top of it.  Pass.

Race 10

2nd Heat of the 46th Kentucky Filly Futurity

Listen to On Air coverage for updates!

Race 11

2nd Heat of the 119th Kentucky Futurity

Listen to On Air coverage for updates!

Race 12                   Selections                                2-4-5-8

1

Feel Like a Fool

Hasn’t come back as dominant as he was in his freshman season, which included a monster first over win during the GC in 49.4!  Should get a smooth journey and sit close though.  Sears opted off for #8.

2

Up the Credit

Ended up with a terrible trip in the Jug Final, but the $1.5 NA Cup Champ reeled off a big win 3 starts back in the Simcoe at Mohawk.  Any smooth journey puts him right in the mix here.

3

Something for Doc

Took advantage of some nice trips to race well in the Jug, but he is still going to have to prove that he can go with some of the best 3yo’s in the country here on the big track.  I’ll watch this one.  Pierce opted here over #9.

4

Big Bad John

Dominant Jug winner in straight heats for a colt that appears to be improving as we go further into the season.  Had a big win here last year in 50.4, and I’m expecting another big effort today.

5

Westwardho Hanover

Note the barn change.  Has been holding his own against mid-level stakes company recently, and the slightest bit of improvement could put him on the ticket at a nice number.  I’ll take a shot.

6

Prana

Hasn’t proven he can go with the top colts in the country thus far, but looks like one of many in here with a shot at the minor awards.  Maybe underneath.

7

Camgrandest

KY sired colt went the mile of his life two back in the $250k final to be 2nd, but followed that up with a dull effort when he added lasix in Indy.  I’ll watch this one.

8

Shadyshark Hanover

Was in a league of his own here in the AM, and that should serve as good tightner after the 4 week break.  His very best puts him right in the mix.  Sears opted here over #1.

9

Mr Tommy Fra

Tommy has put in some nice miles against tough older horses at Pocono recently, but ends up against some of the best colts in the country here from post 9.  Not sure I can endorse him today.  Pierce opted to #3 instead.

Race 13                   Selections                                7-2-8-1

1

Rock N Soul

Came up a bit short in the Milton elim, and she’s going to need a LOT more to go with the top ones in here.  Should sit close from the pole though, and could sneak on the ticket at a nice number.

2

Laughandbehappy

Parlayed a perfect pocket trip into a BIG win in the $388k Milton at Mohawk, unleashing a wicked 25.4 final panel.  Should sit close to the pace once again and be a major player.

3

Ginger and Fred

Sprinted away as the heavy fav at Yonkers in overnight company last time off the layoff, but takes a BIG step back up to take on the very best mares in the country here.  Should continue to get better in 2nd start back.  Your call.  Sears opted here over #4.

4

On the Glass

Couldn’t overcome a tough first over trip in Milton elim, and needs a big rebound in here.  Not sure she is on the same level as the top mares, but it’s wide open for the minor awards.  Sears opted to #3 instead.

5

Shacked Up

Back to back wins in NY open company, but taking a BIG step up to take on the very best of the best here.  Not sure I can jump on board against these.  Dube opted here over #6.

6

Showherthemoney

Mare has continued to improve this season, but still not sure she is ready for this crew.  Pass.  Dube opted to #5 instead.

7

Maureen Rocks

Bottled up in her last couple against some tough mares in Canada, and I would expect her to be out in the flow in short field tonight.  Has a wicked late kick, and any smooth journey should put her close.

8

Chancey Lady

Certainly has proven that she can go with the best of the best, and it will come down to what kind of pace she has to chase here in the small field.  Should be flying late.  Must respect.
