Red Mile Race Reviews

Sunday, September 1st

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                2-3-4

1

Caribbean Dream

Has had some severe stamina issues recently, and I’ll wait until we see some signs of improvement before hopping on board.

2

Big Chum

Made a break last time at Tioga, but trotted a decent 3rd in mid-level stakes event prior in PA.  Picks up the services of HOF’er Mike Lachance in the bike, who has over 10,000 career wins and $188 million in purses.

3

Mr Justice

3yo has a year of experience on many of his rivals here, and a ton of gate speed which should ensure he is well spotted early on.  In a field full of ? marks, he is certainly the most consistent.  Must respect.

4

Quiet Giant

The Giant was a nice even 3rd behind #5 in his career debut, and he should continue to improve here in his 2nd LT try.  I am willing to toss him on the ticket once again.

5

Fort Riley

5yo mare takes on a talented crew of youngsters here, not sure I can endorse her in this spot.  Pass.

Race 2                     Selections                                5-3-6

1

Great Scot

I actually liked this guy a lot last time, and I must admit that I was a bit disappointed in the fairly dull 3rd place finish.  Steps up to take on an even better crew tonight, can’t endorse him against these.

2

Tymeto B Bluegrass

Has flashed early speed in his most recent efforts, with stamina continuing to be the main concern.  Doesn’t appear that things are going to get any easier in here.  Not tonight.  Shehan opted to #8 instead.

3

EJ’s Pocket Rocket

Sharp effort at this level last time as the 3-5 fav, even if he did have to settle for 2nd.  No question the one to beat, but keep in mind he has been beaten at short odds in each of the last two.

4

Change Agent

Raced evenly against similar company here on Thursday, and would have to find a lot more in the tank to contend for any of the major awards here.  I’ll pass for now.

5

Cams Sahbra

Absolutely crushed a weaker field here on Thursday in a LT best, and anything similar to that effort should be plenty enough to get the job done here.  Lots to like.

6

It’s Fun

Saved ground against similar company on Thursday en route to a decent 4th place finish.  Appears to be a notch or two below the top ones, but maybe a shot for the minor awards once again.

7

Feys Blitzen Grey

Ky’s version of the grey gladiator hasn’t been completely on top of his game just yet, and takes another drop in class tonight.  He IS much better than he’s shown, but he still needs to prove it.

8

Feelin Rosie

No threat against similar company last week from outside post, and it’s hard to see much changing in here.  Has only 1 2nd place finish to show for 16 starts on the season.  Pass.  Shehan opted here over #2.

9

Pleasant Rio

Gelding has found himself in against some very nice rivals recently, and has finished up far behind in even efforts.  Lands on the outside here, but appears to be a touch softer.  Maybe a shot at the minor awards.

Race 3                     Selections                                2-4-1

1

Last Best Chance

Has finished up 3rd behind #’s 2 & 4 in both pre-lims, so why should we try to defy logic here?  It looks ICE COLD to me…   2-4-1, assuming nothing crazy happens.  Won’t pay a lot, better have it multiple times.

2

On Golden Ponder

Youngster arrives in riding a 3 race win streak, including the last 2 against these same rivals locally.  Really never challenged to this point, and appears to be all set for the biggest payday in his brief career.

3

Seve

Yet to show enough speed to hang with the top colts in here.  I’ll pass for now.

4

Up N At It

Has enough early speed to ensure he gets a nice trip in here, where he has been 2nd best behind #2 in both prior starts.  Looks like clearly 2nd best once again.

5

Sam Axe

Hasn’t shown the ability to hang with the top colts in here thus far.   Pass.

6

Proceed to Party

Tired a bit after launching a first over attack on #2 last time, and at the end of the day has been 4th best in both tries against this crew.  Hard to see him turning the tables here, especially with outside post.

Race 4                     Selections                                7-5-4-8

1

Dress for Success

Finished far back in both legs, and doesn’t appear to pack enough speed to contend for any of the major awards at this point.  Pass.

2

In the Clover

Finished almost 25 lengths behind these same rivals last time, would take a complete turnaround here.  Although I will mention, a 5th place check tonight would be $12.5k.  Not too bad, but for gambling purposes..  Pass.

3

Ella Teel

Finished far behind in 4th last time, and that is about the best I could see her doing once again.  Underneath only.

4

Twice Too Nice

Continues to improve with each and every start, fending off #5 down the lane to hold the 2nd spot in her most recent effort.  Should blast out early and sit close once again.  Must respect.

5

KJ Brenda

Unable to rally past #4 for the place spot down the lane last time, where it appeared she had some steering issues.  Knowing these connections, I would assume they have addressed that problem.  I’ll try her back in 2nd here.

6

DC Master Mind

Made breaks in both starts thus far, I’m no master mind but it’s hard to endorse her after seeing that.

7

Petticoat Affair

Has proven to be much the best against these same rivals in the pre-lim’s, and should be able to blast out and dictate her own terms once again.  No question the one to beat, short price looming.

8

Sister Star

Ended up a distant 4th in the opening leg, and for whatever reason we didn’t see her back in action for leg 2.  Picks up Tetrick tonight, no doubt she will be leaving for good position from way out here.

9

Lady Kate

Appears overmatched against these right now, and gets slammed with the outside post as well.  Pass.

Race 5                     Selections                                1-5-3

1

Somethin incredible

Never an anxious moment in her two opening leg victories, and we are staring at likely the heaviest of favs on tonight’s card.  Looks to be on a different level than her KYSS foes.  Put a circle around her.

2

Sorority Girl

Ended up finishing a distant 2nd behind #1 in the opening leg, but followed that up with what was a very dull effort last time.  Should end up with a nice trip in behind #1 here.  Your call.

3

Best Legacy

Although a notch below the two favs, this filly is one of a few that figures for the minor awards.  Continues to improve a bit with each start.  I would expect the same here.

4

Magical Bestern

Another that seems to be on the improve, finishing up just behind #3 for 3rd here last time.  I’m sure Stiltner will be looking to save ground and shake loose late once again.

5

Salsa Star

Has shown some major improvement in each of her 2 career starts, finishing up just behind the heavy fav last time.  Winning may still be a stretch at this point, but clearly 2nd best in my opinion.

6

Caribbean Jewel

KY Fair Champ has been derailed in the last couple tries, finishing up a distant 5th behind these same foes last time.  Not ready to jump on board at this point.

7

Take Cover

Made a break in the Opening leg, then disappeared in leg 2.  I honestly thought she was getting a bit better heading into the KYSS, but all of that causes some concern.

Race 6                     Selections                                4-10-6     $5,000 Guaranteed Pool Pick 4 Starts Here          See Ticket at the end

1

Dewycolor intheline

Ended up with a soft draw in the 2nd leg, but he did romp as the heavy fav.  Tetrick picks up the call tonight, should be sitting very close to the early action after landing on the pole.

2

Caveat Emptor

Took advantage of #4 making a break in the 2nd leg, with a well timed move to the top by trainer-driver Ray Schnittker to pull off the 26-1 upset.  Not sure things will work out that perfectly here though.

3

Dewey Luvs Britt

A solid 3rd place finish behind #2 last time, but quite honestly I thought he had every chance to get up for the win in there after a perfect trip.  I’m not sure things are going to get any easier in this spot.

4

Lauderdale

According to connections, this guy simply pulled himself up after making the lead last time to make a break.  Not sure what tactics they will employ tonight after that, but he is the one to beat if he minds his manners.

5

Bas Hanover

Finished up a distant 2nd behind #1 last time, but keep in mind that was a fairly weak division in my opinion.  Would have to prove he packs enough speed to hang with the top colts in here.  Not for me.

6

Mystical Dew

Defending KYSS Champ was under aggressive handling with his trainer in the bike last week, only to tire a bit down the lane as expected.  Tyler back up tonight, 3rd start back on the season.  Should be poised and ready for a big effort here at a solid price.

7

Here’s Johnny

Not sure why he made the break here last time, but was solid in the opening leg in a 2nd place finish behind #4.  Should be in line for a nice cover trip here, could land on the ticket with any smooth journey.

8

Deweykidum nhowe

Must admit that he raced much better than I expected last time to finish up a close 2nd behind #2.  Lands on the outside of a solid group tonight, won’t be easy but he has proven he can go with these.

9

Penn

KY Fair Champ appears overmatched against these, and lands way out in post 9 to make matters worse.

10

Master of Law

Razor sharp when he saw him locally in the opening leg, and not really sure why he took off in round 2.  Zeron in town for the drive, he will have to find a way to work him into the race from way out here.

Race 7                     Selections                                6-2-10-9                  50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Groton Party

Before you completely dismiss him, keep in mind he made up a TON of ground after the break last week to end up 3rd.  Still hard to jump on board after he’s made 2 breaks in 2 starts.  I’ll watch for improvement.

2

Kabu

Not sure why this guy jumped it off just after the start last time, but he strolled to an easy victory after many of his rivals broke in the opening leg.  I still think he can go with this crew, and the price should be right as well.

3

Shana’s Lucky Star

I’m not sure how lucky Shana is to have hooked a field like this, and I’ll have to pass in this spot.

4

Chiarello

Finished a distant 2nd behind #2 in the opening leg, and made a break last time even though he had added hobbles prior.  Top connections here, but I haven’t been overly impressed with this guy.  Tetrick opted here over #5.

5

Maple Grove Joe

A nice local debut last time, picking off some of his tired rivals down the lane to finish up on the ticket.  Lands in a perfect mid-pack post, I would expect another off the pace try here.  Tetrick opted to #4 instead.

6

Scacco Matto

Absolutely terrible luck last time, as he very briefly interfered w/#5 at the start, which caused him to be DQ’d from the win.  He was TONS the best in there, never being asked down the lane.  With a ton of early speed in the outside posts, things may set up for him quite nicely tonight for another off the pace rally.  Must respect.

7

Rebel Soul

Nowhere near as good as I expected last time, after he made a huge move in the opening leg after making a break at the start.  I’m not convinced he is ready to go with these at this point.

8

High Seriousness

Public hammered this guy last time down to 3-1, and he put in a big mile to finish 2nd behind #6, only to be placed first after the DQ.  Should continue to improve, no question he will be blasting out early.

9

Sorrento Hall

Continues to improve with each and every start, and unfortunately lands out in post 9 tonight in the final.  Does have early speed, Lachance has no option but to spring forward off the gate.  Maybe.

10

Samburu

Has raced extremely well in both legs, which were his first 2 career starts.  Likely the one to beat, but it won’t be easy from way out here.  Yet another that will have to step forward off the gate.

Race 8                     Selections                                1-8-5-9                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

KZ Beach Girl

Ran into a mountain of trouble last time after starting from post 9 in full field, getting parked every step.  Won’t have to worry with that here after landing on the pole.  Will need her very best, trip may work in her favor.

2

Olive Oyle

Finished far back in both tries against these rivals, hard to see anything changing tonight.  Pass.

3

Doc’s Suzie

Found a spot in long term parking last week after attempting to leave from post 4.  I would expect her to find a smoother journey here, but appears overmatched vs. these.  Not tonight.

4

Best of the Best

Saved ground against these foes last time, en route to a nice 5th place finish.  Picks up the services of the leading driver in the country as well, which certainly can’t hurt.  Likely in play for the minor awards once again.

5

Ohmybelle

Defending KYSS Champ had absolutely no chance last time, after getting pinned in along the rail until midway around the far turn.  Did unleash a furious rally once free.  Lots of options tonight after landing in a perfect mid-pack post.  No question her best effort puts her squarely in the mix.

6

Imnotason ofabeach

No threat last time in a distant last place finish, doesn’t appear to be on the same level as the top fillies in here.  Pass.

7

Sgt Molly Pitcher

Took an early shot in her lone elim, only to tire badly down the lane even after being covered up on the backside.  Not sure she is on the same level as the favs in here.  Tetrick opted to #4 instead.

8

So Nice

Maybe not as sharp here last time as she was in the opening leg, but still finished up a solid 2nd after having to work to make the lead.  No question the one to beat, and likely leaving for good position.

9

Diligent Prospect

Last week’s winner draws outside her main rivals tonight, but does have some early speed if CC elects to use it once again.  Not sure things are going to work out as perfectly as last time, but she has proven she can go with these.

10

Swinging Cami

Finished up a distant 2nd behind #8 in the opening leg, in what was a fairly soft field.  Tough assignment tonight after landing on the outside of contentious crew, but they might heat things up early for her.

Race 9                     Selections                                5-1-3-2                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

True Day Dream

Ended up being no match for #5 last time, trying to go down the road.  I don’t think she will end up on the lead here, might be a bit better with a trip.  Never worse than 2nd all season, lots to like.

2

Little Bitty Lies

Used hard to make the lead in the weaker of 2 divs last time, before finishing 3rd just as she had in the opening leg.  Should sit close after landing on the inside.  Possibly a shot at the minor awards once again.

3

Andie Sophia

Defending KYSS Champ hasn’t shown the knockout punch she delivered last year to this crew yet locally, but I expect her to be on top of her game here in the final.  Any smooth journey puts her in the mix.

4

Simone Hall

Has saved ground in both local tries, and appears to be a notch or two below the favs in here still.  Pass for now.  Tetrick opted to #2 instead.

5

Ma Chere Hall

Sprinted out of the gate in both local starts, and I expect her to end up on the lead at some point early on tonight.  Appeared well in hand in both wins, no question she has stamped herself the one to beat.

6

Caneel Hall

Flashed a ton of early speed locally, but stamina appears to be the main concern.  Things aren’t going to get any easier in here.

7

Déjà vu Too

Not sure what has happened to her since arriving locally, but she has not been on top of her game.  Regressed into a break last time, would have to completely turn things around to compete for the major awards here.

8

Variety Girl

Tired badly down the lane after an aggressive first over try last time, and I would expect her to work out a smoother cover trip tonight from post 8.  Still would need her very best to track down the favs in here.

9

FanFan Dream

Really picked things up in a 2nd place finish last time behind #10 at 44-1.  Unfortunately she wasn’t done any favors after landing in post 9 tonight, retains longshot status.

10

Rockin with Dewey

Had been extremely lucky in drawing good posts in the elims, but really takes the worst of it after landing on the outside here.  Lachance will have to find a way to work her into the race, won’t be easy.

Race 10                   Selections                                8-2-7-3                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Jude Hall

Finished far behind his rivals in both prelims and appears overmatched once again.  Pass.

2

Bandolito

Hasn’t disappointed as the heavy fav in either of the opening legs, and now lands on the inside with Tetrick in for the drive.  No question a short price looming, looking for his 9th (and most important) in a row.

3

Phenomenon

Perfect ground saving steer by Lachance last time, to fend off his rivals late in finishing 2nd.  Should be in line for a nice trip once again tonight after drawing inside.  Must respect.

4

Nutmegs Maya

Well beaten by #2 in both local starts, hard to see things being any different here.  Pass.

5

Galex

Picked up some of the pieces late to grab the nickel last time, and that is about the best it appears he could hope for once again.  Callahan opted to #8 instead.

6

A List

Note the barn change tonight, not sure how it will affect his performance moving forward.  Either way, this appears to be a very tough assignment.  Pass.

7

Blatantly Best

Absolutely scorched making the lead last time, and I was actually very impressed that he dug in down the lane to finish as close as he did with the pack.  I would expect a better journey here, looking to pounce late.  Maybe.

8

Duel in the Sun

Not sure what was going on with the scratch last time, but I must admit that I was very impressed with the defending KYSS champ in his runner up finish to #2 prior.  Has a wicked late kick, will it be enough?

9

Exit Cam

Gelding has held his own with this crew thus far, but has the unfortunate assignment of landing on the far outside here.  Page will have to find a way to work him into the race, maybe a shot at the minor awards.

Race 11                   Selections                                8-1-4

1

Herroyal highness

A winner against overnight company here in her career debut, and connections thought enough of her to try her in $108k stake last time in Indy.  A nice even 4th place finish there, should continue to improve.

2

Danielle S

Broke in 2 of 3 career tries, and I must admit I wasn’t overly impressed with the local Q’fer here last time.  Would have to pick things up quite a bit still, and mind her manners as well.

3

Steffi S

Showed a touch of improvement here against overnight company last time, but appears to have landed in a far tougher group here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

4

Hot Springs

Trotted evenly against solid foes on the east coast thus far for top connections.  Should enjoy the class relief here, and continue to improve in only her 4th career try.

5

Berto Adalina

Not sure what caused her to regress into the break here on Thursday, but hard to jump on the bandwagon after seeing that.  I’ll pass for now.

6

Sociable Dawn

Chi-town invader doesn’t appear to pack the speed to hang with the top ones in here just yet.  I’ll pass for now.

7

Spit for Spat

Showed some improvement against solid foes at Tioga last time, and appears to be heading in the right direction tonight in her local debut.  Barn has done very well locally with youngsters.  Maybe.

8

Delmot

3yo has a year on many of her main rivals tonight, and should enjoy the drop from KYSS to overnight company.  Should be a square price as well, I’m willing to take a flier.

Race 12                   Selections                                8-6-3-2                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Littleworth Shake

Overmatched on Thursday, and appears to be overmatched once again here.  Pass.

2

Miller’s Dawn

Flashed a bit of improvement in her 2nd LT try here on Thursday, but still appears to be a notch or two below the favs in here.  I’ll wait until we see further improvement.

3

Mighty Unstoppable

Finished far back in both local tries thus far, but lands in what appears to be an even softer crew here in his 3rd LT try.  Any further improvement should put him in the mix here.

4

My Mindy

Hard to gage coming in from the OH fairs, I’ll watch her go around the track once first.  Not tonight.

5

Fiddle in the Band

Hasn’t had anything to offer locally thus far, would take a complete turnaround against these.  Pass.

6

Cicely Hanover

Raced evenly against some solid fields at this level recently, and picks up the services of Tetrick tonight as well.  Any similar effort puts her in play.

7

Tonic Seelster

No luck in 2 local tries, and it’s hard to see things getting any easier in here.  Pass.

8

My Roberto

Lightly raced 7yo was starting to round the corner a bit, prior to begin scratched ‘sick’ last time and missing 3 weeks before tonight.  If he is as good as he was the last time we saw him, they won’t beat him.

9

LCB Lizzy

2yo had a decent Q’fer over the track, but made a break the only time we saw her locally in an actual start.  I’ll watch one first.

Race 13                   Selections                                4-6-5-7-1                 10 Cent Super Hi Five Wagering

1

Blueridge Hall

Has been racing evenly at this level recently, but hooks what appears to be a fairly tough crew tonight.  Not sure he is ready to hang with these just yet.  Pass.

2

Shesgotwht everitis

No threat against similar company locally, can’t see anything changing here.  Pass.

3

Stone Cold Fever

Yet to hit the board in 9 starts this season, don’t see things getting any better here.  Not tonight.

4

Camwiser

Raced very well on Thursday, just missing a nose up the inside late against #6.  Still was a solid effort for a gelding that has shown improvement in each local try.  Must respect.

5

Lady Cambest

Just missed a head of pulling off the big upset Thursday behind #8, and lands in a perfect mid-pack post once again tonight.  Should be in line for a nice trip, but will need her very best.

6

Laredos Goose

Made it back to back wins here on Thursday with a gutsy first over score, fending off #4 down the lane.  Doesn’t have any type of big sprint, but typically continues to grind up week after week.  Big shot.

7

Sadies Legacy

Held fairly well to be 2nd in the conditioned ranks last time after being used hard early on the lead.  Anything similar to that effort should put him in play against these as well.

8

West Coast Arturo

No threat against similar company recently, would be hard to see things getting any better in here.  Pass.
