Red Mile Race Reviews

Sunday, September 29th

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                5-2-4

1

Held in Balance

Made a break in his only local try, and appears to have landed in a tough spot today.  Pass.  D. Miller opted to #6 instead.

2

Blue Porsche

Tough trip last time at small oval in Canada, where trainer has been handling the driving duties recently as well.  No question the lightly raced 5yo has the ability if he is on top of his game.

3

Legendary Kemp

Asking a lot for first time starter to hang with this crew at first asking.  Pass.  D. Miller opted to #6 instead.

4

Tornado

Finally rebounded with a better effort last time against overnight company, but would still need to take things up another notch to contend for the major awards here.

5

Blazed

He absolutely refused to quit trying last time at Mohawk, even with the tough trip.  Has proven to be in career best form over the last month, picks up the services of Zeron today as well.  Lots to like.

6

Dreams of Thunder

Has had a lot of breaking issues this season, but has held his own against overnight company on the east coast when he keeps his mind on business.  Likely only a contender for the minor awards even at his best.

7

Air Stewart

Has been ‘ok’ against overnight company in Columbus, but likely stepping up to take on a tougher crew this afternoon.  Can’t endorse him against these.

Race 2                     Selections                                6-4-7

1

Sgt Grit

Packed it in last time here after being used very hard early on, but had been holding his own against solid company prior at Scioto.  Picks up the services of Tetrick today as well.

2

Powerful Odds

Speaking of powerful odds, that’s now 2 wins in his last 3 starts at DOUBLE DIGIT odds.  I don’t give him much of a chance against this crew, but keep in mind the price will be right once again.

3

Charley’s Fastcat

True story: I made him my longshot of the night (8-1 ML) back on 9-7 and he crushed by 12 lengths.  The only problem?  The public hammered him down to 1-5!  Nice longshot.  Will need his very best today against these.

4

Mindset

3yo appears to have rounded back into form over the last few weeks, including an absolute romp here last week against lesser company.  No question a bit tougher spot tonight, but his best effort makes him the one to beat.

5

Goose on the Rocks

Not thrilled with his most recent efforts in the midwest, and not convinced he packs enough speed to hang with the top ones in here.  Pass.

6

It’s a Go

Not quite sure what to expect here, he was rough gaited and never got involved in his only local try, but did come back to win a Fair in the meantime on an off track.  Should offer value, I’ll give him a try.

7

King Richard

A notch below the top pair last time at Delaware, but lands in what should be an easier spot today.  Plenty of early speed if Campbell elects to blast out.  Maybe.

Race 3                     Selections                                4-5-2

1

Van Gundy Hanover

Not quite sure he is ready to hang with the top ones in here just yet.  Pass.

2

Panther Hanover

If you could tell me he was going to be ready to fire his best shot in his ’13 debut, I would tell you to jump all over him.  However, he has had 11 months on the shelf, have to figure he might be a bit short first time out.

3

Suncapade

Held his own against some fairly tough company in OH, but I could only see him contending for the minor awards against this crew.  Finished in behind #4 back on 8-24 at Scioto.

4

Special Forces

Really stepped up his game since adding lasix a month back, and has knocked heads with top level overnight company here in the midwest.  No question he fits with these.

5

Blatantly Best

Ended up an even 4th behind the Captain last time in Hoosier invite, and obviously lands in a much more manageable spot here.  Typically unleashes a wicked late kick.  Must respect.

6

Fastlane Luke

Faded badly after getting caught up in a hot early pace here locally, and lands in what is likely an even tougher group today.  Not for me.

7

Camgrandest

Spent his last 3 starts chasing a tough rival in Smarter Yet, and now lands on the outside of what should be a fairly similar crew.  Post 7 shouldn’t bother him, likes to do his best work the final quarter.  Your call.

Race 4                     Selections                                2-5-4-3                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Voodoo Victor

Hard to jump on board with all of the breaking issues he has had recently, but I must say he was impressive here in the AM, handily defeating #4.  Still not sure I’m willing to take the risk.

2

Another Amaretto

Couldn’t fend off the 3yo in deep stretch here last week as the heavy fav, but it was still a solid effort nonetheless.  Older than most of his rivals here, I’m willing to come right back with him.  ML chose over #7.

3

Banco Solo

Finished up an even 5th behind #2 last time, and I could only see him in play for the minor awards once again.

4

Facing Justice

On one hand he hasn’t started in almost 9 months, and on the other hand he did have 3 decent AM tuneups to be ready to rock and roll.  Put together a nice Canadian campaign last fall.  Pierce opted to #5 instead.

5

Home Turf

Lightly raced 3yo appears to be improving with each and every start, including a nice 2nd place finish against overnight company in his last try at Pocono.  Any further improvement puts him in play.  Pierce chose over #4.

6

Sharpshot Hall

Stamina has been the main issue in his local tries, and I can’t see things getting any easier today.

7

Here’s Johnny

I have jumped on this bandwagon many times, and he continues to frustrate me.  Made breaks the last couple of times we saw him locally in stakes action.  He HAS the talent, but which Johnny shows up here?  ML chose #2.

8

Zoli

Showed a touch of improvement since adding lasix 2 starts back, but faces a tough task today after landing on the far outside against this crew.  Will need his absolute very best.

Race 5                     Selections                                4-7-1-2                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Little Bitty Lies

Couldn’t collar #7 when in town locally for the KYSS, but she does have some talent – hitting the board in 8 of 9 starts this season.  Likely her toughest task to date here, maybe a shot at the minor awards.

2

Royal Assets

Hasn’t been able to knock off many wins against the top level, but she continues to stack up solid checks and typically always gives a good account of herself.  I would expect the same here.

3

Vintage Oaks

Hasn’t proven she packs enough speed to hang with this kind.  Pass.

4

Shared Past

She’s always been a nice filly, but appears to have really rounded into form over the last month.  An easy win against lesser company last out, but a couple of seconds prior behind top fillies.  Must respect.

5

Time to Kill

Hasn’t really taken the next step forward after a sensational 2yo campaign, hitting the board for the first time in her last start in 13 tries this season.  Looks like a contender for the minor awards only.

6

Southwind Cocoa

No question she has picked up her game a bit since adding lasix early last month, but it would likely take even more improvement for her to hang with the top ones in here.  Hard to endorse her against these.

7

Ma Chere Hall

Ultra consistent locally in KYSS action, where she showed no signs of returning to those bad habits.  No question she will be blasting out early.  Catch her if you can.  Callahan opted here over #5.

8

Bethel Hanover

Appears overmatched after landing on the far outside against this crew.  Pass.

Race 6                     Selections                                4-2-3                       Start of the $15,000 Guaranteed Pick 4                See ticket at the end

1

Lovely Vacation

Razor sharp recently against overnight company on the east coast, including a solid 3rd place finish behind some older male rivals after being used hard in her last at Philly.  Lands in a fairly wide open spot.  Maybe.

2

Good Intentions

Looks to have really rounded the corner since removing the trotting hobbles after arriving locally, including an easy romp against lesser company here last time.  She is in career best form right now.

3

Silver Credit

Has been dominant in her last 3 tries over the half mile ovals, but now she will have to prove she can carry that speed here over the mile strip.  No question she fits with these, but likely a short price looming.

4

Cupcake

She’s had her issues at times, but has proven she has plenty of talent when she keeps her mind on business.  Exploded past #3 back on 8-2 at The Meadowlands, I’ll try her again here at what should be a nice price.

5

Clementine Dream

Not sure she is ready to go with this crew just yet.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.  Lachance opted to #2 instead.

6

Uncommon Night

Nice tightner here locally against a tough foe in her last try, and if they heat things up early I would expect her to be flying late.  Maybe.

7

Mitey Pretty Win

OH invader has landed in a tough spot for her local debut.  Not today.

8

Delmot

Hooks a tough group here and will likely have to do it from last.  Not sure I like that scenario.

9

Miss Steele

No question she will be blasting out for some sort of early position after getting slammed with post 9.  Her best effort would put her squarely in the mix.

Race 7                     Selections                                7-4-5-10                  50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Lindys Jersey Boy

Packs plenty of early speed, and has held his own with top company since arriving in the midwest.  Should be able to blast out here and get a nice trip in behind #4.  Would still need his absolute best shot.  SZ opted to #2.

2

Appomattox

Has been decent since arriving to the midwest as well, but would still need to pick things up a bit to hang with some of the top trotters in the country here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.  Zeron opted here over #1.

3

Arch Madness

Battle tested warrior still going strong at age 9.  Great to see him back at The Red Mile.  Inching closer to that $4 million mark, already putting over $209k in the bank this season.  Must respect.

4

Sevruga

Has a wicked early turn of foot, and will no doubt be on the gas early and often here in his local debut.  Has hit the board in 18 of 19 starts this season, and I expect him to be right there once again.

5

Market Share

Sharp effort last time at Hoosier in $230k stake after adding lasix, and he seemed to really like this track when he was here last year.  Plenty of options from perfect mid-pack post today.

6

Quick Deal

Note the barn change this afternoon, but it would take a lot of improvement for him to step up and take on this crew.  Does show a win from Meds  earlier this year in 52.1  Your call.

7

Mister Herbie

Herbie may end up with a perfect trip in here following live cover, and should have plenty of early pace to try and gun down.  I’m willing to hop on board.

8

Swan in a Million

Should end up with a nice trip following #7, but might be asking a bit much for him to go with this crew.  Pass.

9

Upfront Billy

Another that will be trying to launch an off the pace rally from the back, but appears to be a notch or two below the top ones in here right now.

10

My MVP

The 2012 KY Futurity Champ really took off when he arrived locally last season, but faces a tough assignment in this spot after getting slammed with post 10.  Will need his very best.

Race 8                     Selections                                1-5-4-2                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Dancehall Mistress

Knocking heads with some of the top older male trotters in Canada recently, and has been more than holding her own.  Tetrick should have her in play early here, I’m willing to hop on board.

2

Déjà vu Too

Trotted evenly against some tough foes recently, but still may be a notch or two below the top ones in here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

3

JH Jessica

Not sure she is ready for these just yet.  Pass.

4

Personal Style

Lost all chance with the break behind the gate on Jug Day in Delaware, but should enjoy the return to the mile strip tonight where it seems she typically does her best work.  I’m looking for a big rebound.

5

Bax of Life

Right when it looked like the train may have went off the tracks a bit, she bounced back with a big effort from post 8 in $125k Delaware stake.  Lands in what should be a much easier spot here.  Must respect.

6

Sina

Put in a solid effort the only time we saw her locally, but takes a major step up today to take on some tough foes.  Hard to endorse her against this crew.

7

Dawning Dream

Another who was solid locally last time, but facing FAR tougher company this afternoon.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

8

Keystone Sadie

Handily defeated by #7 the last time we saw her locally.  Appears overmatched against these.

9

Lipstick Rose

Slammed with outside post against a solid group.  Pass.

Race 9                     Selections                                6-1-9-2                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

A Rocknroll Dance

Has come back with an absolute vengeance this season, just getting nipped in the final strides after doing all the work in the World Record mile at Delaware.  Should be up close to the action early.  Major player.

2

Sweet Lou

Went over the $2 million mark with his latest check up at Scioto, where he finished well behind #1.  Should be in line for a nice up close journey here, but going to have to pick it up a bit to contend for top honors.

3

Golden Receiver

Iron tough gelding has a TON of early speed, and will typically fight his rivals all the way to the finish.  Has missed over a month prior to today though, will he be at his very best?  We’ll see.

4

Escape the News

One of 5 starters in here for Team Burke, but not sure this guy is on the same level as the top ones.  Pass.  Kakaley opted to #10 instead.

5

Foreclosure

How he got there in his ’13 debut at Scioto that night I will never know.  Was sitting far back buried on the rail turning for home, and somehow found room deep in the lightning lane.  Had a win here last year.

6

Bolt the Duer

Fired a blank 2 starts back in Canada, and left himself entirely too much to do last week at Yonkers after getting away last.  We might finally get a square price on him here, and I won’t pass up that opportunity.

7

Our Lucky Chip

Finished up a close 3rd to the two heavyweights last time at Delaware, and is slowly starting to convince me that he might be able to go with the best of the best.  Your call.

8

Up the Credit

Hard to say a horse hasn’t been on top of his game recently when he paced in 48 and change 2 starts back, but I truly don’t think he has been.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

9

Clear Vision

Has absolutely exploded to the top tier of the FFA pacing ranks over the last couple of months, and appears to be the main threat of the 5 Burke starters.  Won’t be easy from out here, but he is RAZOR sharp.

10

Aracache Hanover

Tough to gage if the barn change made much difference from earlier this month, but he has been racing well against overnight company out east.  Not sure I like how things will set up from way out here though.

Race 10                   Selections                                5-3-7

1

Fashion Athena

Added lasix prior to that $260k PASS Final where she finished a distant 3rd behind #3.  That would be about the best I could expect for her in here as well.

2

Tonato of Love

Taking a step up to the big leagues today, not sure I can endorse her against these.

3

Frau Blucher

Packs plenty of early speed and will no doubt be blasting out today.  Has hit the board in 10 of 11 this season, and seemed to love this track when she was here last fall.  Lots to like.

4

Handover Belle

Crushed local overnight rivals, but steps back up to take on some tough company here.  I could only see her contending for the minor awards against these.  Tetrick opted here over #6.

5

Mistery Woman

Has had some breaking problems here and there, but typically is right in the mix when she keeps her mind on business.  Very sharp here in her 2yo season, I’ll jump on board once again.

6

Sheena’s Shadow

Sheena appears to be a notch or two below the top fillies in here.  Pass.  Tetrick chose #4 instead.

7

To Dream On

Not as dominant as she was in her 2yo campaign, but continues to hold her own with the top fillies in the country week in and week out.  Trainer jumps back in the bike this afternoon.  Maybe.

8

Perfect Alliance

Sharp effort here against overnight company, getting nailed in the final strides by a 3yo colt.  Still will have to prove she can go with this type of crew though.

Race 11                   Selections                                5-1-4

1

Punxsutawney

Tough trip in the $665k Canadian Trotting Classic last time at Mohawk, but has proven he can go with the top level all season.  Should be in line for a nice journey after landing on the inside in short field.

2

Longwell

Yet to miss the board in 11 starts this season in banking over $100k, but this is certainly his toughest task to date.  Would really have to step things up to make any noise here.

3

Team Six

Held his own against mid-level stakes company this season, and typically provides a solid late kick when things set up for him.  Maybe a shot in here behind the favs.

4

Deadliest Catch

Sharp recently, with his only defeat coming at the hands of YSV who has really taken off and we will see in action in Race 12.  Will need his very best punch against this crew.  Maybe.

5

Creatine

With the exception of the tough trip in the $1 million Hambo Final, he has been a model of consistency recently and appears to be in career best form.  Anything similar should be enough here.

6

Caveat Emptor

Appears overmatched against these right now.  Pass.

7

Corky

Very sharp earlier in the year in east coast stakes action, but for whatever reason appeared to tail off a bit in both Canadian starts.  Will have to rebound in a hurry here.

Race 12                   Selections                                7-6-2

1

Mystical Dew

2012 KYSS Champ lands in a tough spot today, not sure I can endorse him against these.  Pass.

2

Vibe Blue Chip

A nice effort over the half mile at Delaware, edging past #5 to get up for the win in likely one of the most impressive efforts of his career.  Appears to be heading in the right direction.

3

Lindy’s Tru Grit

Expectedly tired a bit after launching a tough first over attack on the eventual winner in that last try, but was sharp against stakes company in the starts prior.  Not an easy spot here, maybe a shot underneath.  TT chose #7.

4

Dewycolor intheline

Yonkers Trot Champ came up a bit short against top level company in the $250k KYSS Final, and appears to be a notch or two below the top ones in here as well.

5

Bluto

Nearly lasted on the lead last time at Delaware, but faces a far better crew here this afternoon.  Can’t endorse him against these.

6

Wheeling N Dealin

The 2yo sensation is still looking for the first victory of his 3yo campaign, but has been knocking on the door all season against the top level.  Must respect.

7

Your So Vain

Closed from an impossible spot in the $665k stake last time to be 2nd, and has really found his best stride over the last couple of months.  Should be sitting close enough to get the job done here in short field.

Race 13                   Selections                                7-8-4-2-1                 10 Cent Super Hi Five Wagering

1

Boffin

Picked up some nice checks against stakes company this season, and lands on the pole here in what appears to be the deepest and most wide open of the Bluegrass splits.  Will need his absolute very best.

2

All Laid Out

Put together a huge rally to finish 3rd behind the favs in Canada at a big price last time, and anything similar to that effort would put him squarely in the mix here.  Lands in a competitive crew.

3

Dewey Luvs Britt

Appears overmatched against these.  Pass.

4

Pine Credit

Never got involved last time after sitting far back, but I was really impressed with his first over performance in the Zweig 3 starts back against RFL.  Anything similar to that effort should put him in play.

5

Fico

Has been a notch or two below the top level all season, and would have to pick things up quite a bit to contend for any of the major awards here.

6

Lauderdale

Well beaten by #7 here in the KYSS Final, and I’m not sure things are going to get any easier against this crew today.  I could consider him for the minor awards only.

7

Master of Law

Not sure what caused him to make the break last time, but I will assume its all systems go since he is right back in the box.  That snapped a 6 race win streak, I’ll look for a big rebound here.

8

Spider Blue Chip

Obviously the breaking problems are a bit concerning recently, but there is no question he can hold his own with the very best when he is on top of his game.
