Red Mile Race Reviews
Thursday, August 16th
Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt
Race 1 Selections 5-4-2-3
1
Fortune Road
Drops in for a tag for the
first time in quite some time, but has hooked a fairly tough crew in the
opening leg of the Mini-Series. Needs
more.
2
Blazing Tower
Moved first over into a
quick opening half last time against similar company, and fought gamely down
the lane before finishing a couple lengths back in 4th. Impressive effort, anything close to that
puts him close again.
3
Our Little Pilgrim
Followed #2 up last time,
and really had no excuse not to go ahead and win off a perfect trip. Figures to be another short price here,
I’ll use him underneath only.
4
Hawaiian Alibi
Debuted locally with a super
Q’fer, but disappointed as a HEAVY fav on opening night. Not sure what to expect here, but we know
he does have the ability.
5
Keystone Nite Hawk
Coming off a couple of very
solid efforts at Northfield,
most recently on Monday night where he got locked in a speed duel early with
the eventual winner. Barn has several
in tonight, this guy appears to have drawn in a field he should be able to
handle. Watch this one to gage his
stablemates later. Bolon opted here
over #2.
6
Little Water Tower
Didn’t fair well against similar
company at Raceway, but had been very good prior at Bluegrass Downs. Lands in short field tonight, we’ll see if
he can rebound.
7
Under Act
Doesn’t appear to be ready
to go with these. Pass.
Race 2 Selections 8-7-4-3
1
Heart’s Prince
Got stung leaving from post
6 last time, and still raced decent to finish 5th. Things won’t get any easier tonight
though.
2
Ginnysdoodle dandy
Finished a distant 4th
in his local debut, and drops in for what should be a bit of an easier spot
against claiming company tonight.
Still will have to pick it up a bit.
3
Jaxx
Parlayed a perfect trip into
a close 3rd place finish last week, and has stepped up his game a
bit since arriving locally. Any
similar effort should put him right in the mix once again.
4
All is Said & Done
Tipped 5-wide down the lane
and eventually wore down the field to get up for the victory. A nice effort, but in reality he was set up
for that after sitting in the back through a quick opening half. Likely to be overbet when it’s all said and
done.
5
Paul T
I must admit that I was
disappointed in Paul last time, he darted right out and sat close to a quick
opening pace, but completely folded up his tent late. He’s good enough, but needs a big
rebound.
6
Tricky Grin
Couldn’t keep up with a
runaway winner in his local debut, and might have been in a bit over his head
there. Maybe a touch softer here, but
would still need more to hang with the top ones. Tricky call.
7
Fox Valley Michael
Got parked early and tired
late last time, but this horse IS better than what we have seen locally. He is going to pop off with a big
performance one of these nights. Will
it be tonight?
8
Blueridge Hall
I must admit that I wasn’t a
huge fan of his on Sunday, and he hung right in there with my top two
selections to finish a nice 3rd.
Drops in for the tag here against easier foes. I’ll hop on board. Nisonger opted here over #6.
Race 3 Selections 9-4-2-7
1
Leanto Scarlet
Trotted evenly to finish 2nd
last time, but keep in mind that field had several breakers and it may appear
a little better on paper than it actually was. Lands in another WIDE open crew.
2
Peaks & Valleys
Closed from far back last
time to get beaten just over a length in finishing up a nice 3rd. Should continue to improve in just his 3rd
LT start tonight. BIG shot.
3
Moreagio
Hasn’t had much success in 3
local starts. Pass.
4
Horizon Ridge
That effort was much better
than it looks on paper last time at Indy, he came first over from way back
into an extremely slow opening half.
Appears to be some talent on the horizon here. I’ll take a shot.
5
Stylish Image
We don’t see many Ocean
Downs shippers here, but that is exactly where this mare has been vacationing
recently. Shows a few nice even
efforts against similar company. Your
call.
6
Shawneewind
Collared a longshot leader
for a length victory last week, and takes a slight step up tonight off the
win. He certainly fits with
these.
7
Cloverdale
Trotted evenly to finish
just over a couple lengths behind a nice 3yo filly last time, and appears to
be heading in the right direction.
Lands in another competitive field, any further improvement puts him
close.
8
Youknow whatIlike
Trotted evenly to finish 4th
behind a fairly decent trio over the sloppy track in his local debut. Not a bad effort, but still has his work
cut out for him from way out here.
9
Ilari
Connections still tinkering
with this guy, adding hobbles and lasix over the last month. Shows a win over a sloppy track at Scioto last time in his ’12 debut, and could be a live
longshot here in KYSS prep.
Race 4 Selections 2-9-6-8
1
Towne Believer
Packs plenty of early speed,
but has yet to display much stamina in her first couple of local tries. I’ll wait until we see some signs of
improvement before I’m a believer.
2
Sgt Grit
Tired late after a tough
first over trip in the $8.5k KY Fair Final on opening night, but he has
landed in a very comfortable spot for his 2nd local try. No question, he is the one to beat.
3
Rollin Terror
Missed the gate badly last
time, and never made up much ground.
I’ll wait until we see some improvement.
4
Real Impressive
First local try wasn’t
really impressive. Pass for now.
5
The Hit Lady
It looked like this mare was
going to roll by last time for the win, but she hung quite a bit under heavy
encouragement down the lane. Doesn’t
like to win a lot. Minor awards
only.
6
Village Boss
Lone 2yo in the field had
some nice AM efforts to go along with a decent try in his only LT start up at
Scioto.
Typically don’t like 2yo’s against older, but this guy should continue
to improve.
7
Kentucky All Star
This all star hasn’t had any
luck in her recent starts, ending up parked every step of the mile in the
last two. Hopefully will be in line
for a smoother journey tonight, but will need her very best regardless.
8
Shakinmy Monimaker
Absolutely flew home at OH
fair last week to finish up a nice 3rd. Doesn’t appear to have a ton of early speed
though, and that’s not a good recipe from post 8. Can Nisonger work her into the race?
9
Julie Lou
That last start was MUCH
better than it appears on paper, this filly got caught behind several stallers,
and when she finally got through she was caught behind horses on the inside
as well. I’m not sure how good she
actually is, but MUCH better than the last start appears on paper. Will be a big number. I’ll take a flier.
Race 5 Selections 3-2-1-4
1
Droppinthe Kurtin
A decent effort to finish 3rd
last time, and has hit the board in 5 of 6 in his career. Should continue to improve and lands on the
pole in what appears to be a nice spot for him. Maybe.
2
Show Me Some Skin
Decent effort last time, but
I was still expecting a lot more pop on the end of it. I’ve been on her the last two times, and
I’m finally going to jump off. That’s
usually a good time to get on one. Not
for me though.
3
Southern Strong
Really liked this filly in
what would have been her career debut here last week, and she ended up
scratched. The good news is that this
appears to be another good spot for her.
I’m on board.
4
Caribbean Treasure
Yet to miss the board in 7
LT tries, but she was far behind the top pair in the $8.5k KY Fair
Final. Probably spotted a bit easier
against these, but still needs her very best.
5
Jazzie Music
Added lasix in the AM, and
now makes her first start locally after missing a month. We might see some improvement, but asking
quite a bit to hang with the top ones in here right off.
6
Mosh Pit
Well bred freshman colt
debuts tonight for top connections.
Not overly impressed with his AM tries, but lands in a comfortable
spot. I’ll watch him go around once
first.
7
Wheelie Fast
Quit wheelie badly in that
last effort, but he is certainly better than that. Yet to finish 1-2 in 31 LT starts, so I’d
consider him underneath only.
8
Perfect Truth
I was very impressed with
her last try, finishing up a nice 3rd in her first local
start. Should continue to improve with
each start, but might be asking a bit much to go with the top ones just
yet.
9
Im Bashful in Away
Dug in for the win last
time, but that was not an overly tough group she was in against. Much tougher crew she faces here, and
slammed with post 9. Not a great
recipe.
10
Art’s Chance
Finished 5th in
the local Q’fer, but keep in mind that the top 3 in there have all came out
to race VERY good. Having said that, a
tough task lies ahead from post 10 in his 2nd LT try. I’ll wait for a better spot.
Race 6 Selections 8-5-2-6 Start of Pick 4 See ticket at the end
1
C J’s Criket
The criket has been quiet in
his last several, and would have to find a lot more stamina. Pass.
2
Maid Great
Decent Q’fer over the track,
and gets the slight call as the morning line fav. Held her own against slightly tougher
company this season at Bluegrass. Should be close if she minds her
manners.
3
Rose Run Melanie
Melanie has been taking on
OH fair company recently, and hard to gage her off those efforts. Barn does fairly well here. Your guess is as good as mine.
4
Lucky Hoosier
Didn’t have much to offer
locally. Would take a complete
turnaround.
5
Sand Allistar
Never got worked into the
race last time, and may be better in his 2nd local start
tonight. Picks up the services of
Ronnie Wrenn as well who was red hot here a week ago.
6
Manaloha
Trotted evenly on the off
track after being parked out a long way last time, and he’s been known to
pull off an upset or two here in his day.
Primed and poised here? Good
question.
7
Roscoes Rib Rack
Looked super for ¾ of a mile
last week, but completely came to a stop down the lane. No question he is better than that, but
would take a big turnaround to come back and beat these.
8
Tickle Me Grace
I was all over this mare
last time and she raced horrendous.
She got away perfectly in a field full of breakers, and was absolutely
finished when the field moved on to the far turn. I’m not sure whether to give her another
try, but this is an even softer crew than she faced last time. I’ll hop on board once more.
Race 7 Selections 3-7-4-2
1
Already Spent
Raced much better in her 2nd
local start, and she draws into a field full of question marks here. I’ll watch her closely once again before
hopping on board though.
2
Yank My Rope
Never got into it in big
field on Sunday, and now drops into our bottom condition for the first
time. She certainly fits with these,
appears to be wide open.
3
She Shell Cruise
Barn raced one the other
night that went off a short price on a class drop with similar lines at Scioto as this mare, and that one completely faded off
the board. I’d take a good long look
at this mare on the track with that in mind, but she clearly looks the best
on paper. Loney opted here over
#5.
4
Pocket Belle
Saved ground throughout and
ended up picking up a decent 4th place check on Sunday. 13yo has a ton of early speed and I would
expect Stiltner to be on the gas early.
Catch her if you can.
5
It’s Fun
Hasn’t been within shouting
distance recently, but this is a BIG drop in class from what she has been
facing in Ohio. Draws a perfect mid-pack post. Ready for a drop and pop? Maybe.
6
Auroring Doll
I liked this mare last time
and things set up perfectly for her.
If she couldn’t sprint past the field into a back half of over 1:03, I
just can’t endorse here.
7
Princess Wendy
Took some sneaky tote action
last time, and came back to race very well after making a break and losing a
ton of ground at the start. Should
continue to improve in her 3rd start off the shelf.
8
Ashley Force
The Force has missed nearly
a month and ships in for her first start for local connections. Not an overly tough group here. Will she be ready to fire at first
asking? Good question.
9
F K Beautiful
Raced evenly recently in Ohio, but doesn’t appear
to pack a lot of early speed and she has her work cut out for her from way
out here. McNabb will have to find a
way to work her into the race.
10
Hoosier Rosie
Faired evenly against
tougher company in Indy, but is another that doesn’t appear to have a big
early turn of foot and it’s going to be a tough task from last. Your call.
Race 8 Selections 5-9-4-3
1
Novel’s Finale
Lightly raced 7yo doesn’t
appear to pack the speed to go with these.
Pass.
2
Victoria Valley
Trotted evenly after getting
off to a slow start on Sunday, but would still need a lot more to go with the
top ones in here.
3
Delmary
Finished a distant 3rd
last time, but keep in mind there were several breakers in that field. I would expect that would be about the best
she could hope for again in here.
4
Gotcha Girl
Trotted evenly after getting
caught in the back through a slow opening half at Indy. Appears to be finally heading in the right
direction. Lands in a nice spot.
5
Master Host
Absolutely dominated in the $7.5k
Ky Fair Final, and is a winner in 7 of 8 on the season. His main rivals are fillies here, and that
should help his cause.
6
Blueridge Classic
Shows a dull Q’fer off an 11
month break. I’ll watch one
first.
7
Holligram
Yet to miss the board this
season, but appears to have hooked a much tougher crew tonight. Would have to pick it up quite a bit from
the local Q’fer. Not just yet.
8
Southwind Tufts
Barely got Q’fed after
adding lasix in South Fla. Doesn’t appear ready for these just
yet.
9
Duck Crossing
Never been worse than 2nd
all season, and comes off a big first over try to finish in the runner up
spot in the $10k KY Fair Final. Not
thrilled with post 9, but she has enough early speed to overcome it.
10
Follow My Dreams
Lone 2yo takes on older
company here and gets slammed with post 10 on top of it. I’ll wait for a better spot.
Race 9 Selections 7-3-4-9
1
Paddy Malone
NY invader has been even
against similar company recently, but this guy did pull off a nice win over
this track last season. Fairly tough
spot for this level though, will need his very best.
2
Noah C
Followed the winner up last
time and drew dead even with him down the lane but could not get by him when
it counted and had to settle for 2nd. Things aren’t going to get any easier
here.
3
Crazy Dan
The race line doesn’t
possibly do his last effort justice, he was shuffled completely out of it
behind a dead horse and was really rolling late when he shook loose down the
lane. Should be much better in his 2nd
start back, and may be ready to strike at a nice price.
4
Do It Best
Used hard early from post 9
and ended up fading late in his last attempt.
He IS much better than that, and is another one of many in here that
could hit the ticket at a nice price with his best effort.
5
Thatll Work
Cleveland invader has been facing some tough overnight company
recently, and should find this spot much more to his liking. Barn has had some success here in the
past. Wakeup call coming? KB opted here over #9.
6
Rocknroll Fever
0 for 21 on the season, but
this is by FAR the easiest group that he has faced. Raced evenly with a nice late kick last
time in Indy. It’s now or never!
7
Sassy Kathy’s Girl
Another coming off a
scratched ‘sick’ line, and we haven’t seen her in a month. I’ll watch one first.
8
E R Prince Charmin
Put in a solid performance
last time at big odds, but unfortunately draws back into a pretty tough group
and gets stuck way out in post 8. Not
sure how he’s going to get involved.
Bolon opted to #5 instead.
9
Doc’s Zilla
Has been facing much tougher
company recently in MI, but certainly didn’t land in an easy spot here for
his local debut. No question Loney has
to try and go forward off the gate.
Won’t win it from last. Your
call.
Race 10 Selections 4-1-5-3
1
RJ Hershey
Trotted evenly in her last
couple of starts in Indy against a lot tougher lineup than she faces
here. Appears to have landed in a very
comfortable spot for her local debut. The
one to beat, but a short price looming.
2
Dew Drop Dolly
Outkicked down the lane last
week over the sloppy track, and would have to pick things up quite a bit to
hang with the top ones tonight.
3
Class A Comer
I will admit that I was
fairly impressed with this guy’s ability to hang in there last time to finish
up 2nd behind #4 after a very tough first over trip. Any similar effort puts him right in the
mix once again.
4
Viking Mia
Absolutely sprinted away
under no encouragement whatsoever from her pilot last time for an easy
win. Looks like the main threat to
#1. Must use.
5
Main Street Hall
Not a bad effort for his
first try in over a year last time, as he finished up 3rd behind
#’s 3 & 4. Should be tightened up
and continue to improve in his 2nd try off the shelf. Maybe.
6
Xiao Wang
Trotted evenly against
similar at the Ocean, and should really improve stretching out to the mile
track in her first local try. Check
and see how her stablemate did in race #5 earlier.
7
JohnJohn Hilltopper
Hasn’t been facing a lot on
the OH fair circuit, and I’ll watch him go around the big track once before
jumping on board.
Race 11 Selections 9-7-5-8
1
Hezasonof eclipse
Raced evenly from post 8 and
now lands on the pole in his 2nd local start. Will need to improve a bit more if he’s
going to hang with the top ones at this level.
2
Pan of the Lost
Racing evenly against
overnight company at Northfield,
and lands in a WIDE open crew of claimers here for his first try over the red
clay. Will need his very best. Bolon opted to #5 instead.
3
Megawatt
Skimmed the pylons last time
to pull off the 12-1 upset in our bottom class, but this is a major class
hike to take on this crew. Not sure he
is ready for these.
4
Broadway Fame
Sat on #5’s back last time,
but could not go by him late and had to settle for 3rd. Another solid effort there, but this looks
like an even harder assignment. I’ll
wait for a better spot.
5
Idbegoodat that
Didn’t race as well last
time when he had to cut out his own mile, but it was still an honest effort
to end up 2nd. Not sure he
does his best work on the front.
Plenty of options tonight from perfect mid-pack post.
6
Western Tower
Shows beating some nice
company down in Paducah,
but he lands in a solid group for this level tonight. Did have a win last year in 55 here. That’s probably about what this race is
going to go.
7
Whispers Art
Absolutely throttled by the
field when he shook loose about midway down the lane last time, and lands in
against similar company but a bigger field tonight. Moves from the pole to post 7. Will he get the same trip?
8
Richard Traci
Hit the board in 11 of 17 on
the year, including a 56.1 win at Maywood. No question he is good enough to go with
these, but will he be ready to fire off a scratched ‘sick’ line? Not sure.
Should provide value though.
9
Big City
Faded after being used very
hard at this level last time at Scioto, and
it appears that he packs enough early speed to overcome post 9. I’d expect Wrenn to step right on the gas
early. Maybe.
10
Thatillb sweet
I’ve always been a fan of
this mare, but she draws in against the boys and faces a tough task from way
out here. Always does her best work
from off the pace, and will be very tough to do it from last.
Race 12 Selections 5-9-10-2
1
Sir Johnny Colt
Parlayed a perfect trip into
the first win of his career last time, but steps up to take on a couple of
tough rivals in this crew tonight. Not
sure he is ready for this bunch.
2
Sexy Smile
Has been facing straight
claiming mares at Pocono, and has put in some pretty good miles there. If she can duplicate those efforts, she
should be right in the mix at a sexy price.
Nisonger opted to #7 instead.
3
Scootie Best Lou
Made a break last time, and
wasn’t all that great in the start prior at Scioto. Faces a pretty tough crew for this level,
and she will need her very best to make any major noise here.
4
Black Blitz
Has been racing evenly
against similar in Toledo,
but hooks a tough crew for the level.
Pass.
5
Sgt Matt
Couldn’t get by his
stablemate in the KY Fair Final, but Matt should really enjoy the class
relief in against overnight company tonight.
Would expect Stiltner to blast early.
Must respect.
6
Shawnee Dancer
Has been decent on the Ky
fair circuit this year, but lands in a solid crew here. Needs to find a bigger late kick if she is
going to keep up with this group.
Jerrell opted here over #10.
7
Caribbean Girl
Game effort to dig in and
fight off her challengers in the KY Fair final, but things aren’t going to
get any easier against a solid group of overnighters here. Yet to miss the board all season. JN opted here over #2.
8
Bad Girlfriend
A decent 3rd
place finish last time, but lands in a much more difficult group
tonight. I’ll wait for a better
spot.
9
Averylu
Got hopelessly pinned in
behind a dead one last week, and appeared to have some go on the end of it
when she finally shook loose. Needs
her very best, but no question she fits with these.
10
T B Beach Girl
Got caught up in a big mile
last time at Balmoral, and defending KYSS champ is likely in town for a prep
before next Thursday’s opening leg.
How aggressive will she be from post 10? Not sure.
Jerrell opted to #6 instead.
