Red Mile Nightly Selections

Thursday, August 7, 2014

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                                 Selections                                                4-6-8-5

1

Fairground Drama

Nothing really jumps off the page at you with this filly, but she has quietly hit the board all season long on the KY Fair Circuit.  Should get a nice trip from the pole, but still needs to find more pop on the end of it.

2

Enchilada As

Been on the shelf for over a month now, but does arrive into tonight off a nice local Q’fer capped off with a 28.3 final quarter.  Appears to be one of many with a shot in wide open affair.

3

Shana’s Lucky Star

Appears overmatched against this crew.  Pass.

4

Tiffany’s Victory

Consecutive 10 posts at Scioto since adding Lasix, but she has still managed to trot evenly with her rivals in those miles.  Should enjoy the post relief and stretch out to the big track.   I’m willing to hop on board.  Nisonger opted to #8 instead.

5

Shawnee Gold

Yet to hit the board this season in the conditioned claiming ranks at Hoosier, but this appears to be a much more manageable spot.  Still going to need her absolute best punch.

6

Delmot

Debuted locally with a nice clean 4th place finish here on Sunday behind a tough trio.  Any further improvement should give her a big chance here in what is a much easier spot.  Should provide some value as well.

7

Victoria Valley

Held her own against overnight rivals in Paducah, but lands in a tougher group here.  I’ll watch one first.

8

Bosco’s Angel

Barn was on a roll here on Opening Night with 2 wins, but the Angel didn’t show up with her best effort.  Not really sure what happened there, but this is much easier group regardless.  Major player.  Nisonger chose over #4.

Race 2                                 Selections                                                3-2-6-4

1

Lady Cambest

Has been ‘ok’ in 3 seasonal starts against overnight company in Western KY, but hooks up with solid crew in her local debut.  I’ll wait until we see more improvement.

2

Velocity Sandy

Finished up an even 4th here in the finale on Sunday, and connections opt to quickly drop her in for the bottom level claiming tag now.  Should enjoy the class relief.  Must respect.

3

Sweet Inspiration

Hasn’t had much to offer in bottom level claimers at Scioto since changing barns 3 starts back, but now takes a plunge into our bottom level which may wake her up a bit.  Can’t drop any lower than this.  Maybe.  Nisonger chose over #4.

4

Ashley Force

Ashley has had some success here in the past, and I do think she will like the stretch out to the mile oval.  Should continue to improve in only her 4th start back of the season.  I wouldn’t overlook her.  Nisonger opted to #3 instead.

5

Riverlea Hanover

Finished up an even 4th against much better group here on Sunday, and now dives down into the bottom claiming ranks.  Probably needed that start the other night off the layoff, should be better.  Your call.

6

Rusty’s Treasure

Absolutely crushed her male counterparts here on Sunday night, and now lands in against only mares.  Equaled her LT best with the win, no question she is razor sharp right now with 2 in a row.  But short price looming here…

Race 3                                 Selections                                                2-3-6-5

1

Sweetlittleheart

Decent tightner here on Opening Night at this level after being shuffled back.  Should improve a bit with the start under her belt, but I could only consider for the minor awards.

2

Touch and Go

Barn rolled into town with 1 starter on Sunday, and converted that into a win.  This is a HUGE plunge in class, and I can’t envision a scenario where Touch and Go could get beat.  Should be Touch and Gone…..

3

Fsolatdo Bluegrass

Yet another OH invader that should enjoy the class relief in her local debut. I will toss her on the ticket behind the big fav.

4

Family Spirit

Ended up a distant 3rd in AM work after getting caught up in a 56.3 backhalf.  Not overly impressive the two times he was in action this year back in the spring.  I’ll watch one first.

5

Joe’s Miss Daisy

Former KYSS winner tired after a tough trip in OH fair last time, and has been lacking stamina in her last several starts prior.  Major drop in class on the return to one of her favorite tracks.  Should wake her up a bit.  Maybe.

6

Worker C

Hard to gage how fit the 7yo is right now but he has dispatched a couple of cheap fair fields in OH prior to tonight, and should continue to improve in only his 5th start back from an extended layoff.  Should provide some value.

Race 4                                 Selections                                                7-5-1-8

1

Delightfully Mine

Might have snapped her undefeated streak in her 3rd LT start here on Sunday, but make no mistake that was a great tightner for her.  Paced a big back half to pick up 5th, should be sitting on a much better effort here.  Big shot.

2

Taylor Finn

Well beaten in the last couple of tries from outside posts at Scioto, but lands in a much more manageable spot here for her local debut.  Should sit close at a big price.  Your call.  Shehan opted here over #3.

3

Full Color Camo

Yet to hit the board in 4 tries this season, and is another shipping down from OH in search of an easier spot.  No question she has found it here, but still needs to pick things up a bit.  Maybe.  Shehan opted to #2 instead.

4

LCB Lizzy

Finished far back recently, would take a complete turnaround.  Pass.

5

Threefold Breanna

We liked her to be close here on Sunday, and she nearly pulled off the 17-1 stunner.  Absolutely flying late in that one, should continue to improve here.  Lots to like.

6

Rock N Kilo

Seemed to be a notch or two below the top KY Fair fillies this year, but got setup perfectly in the $9.5k KY Fair Final and took full advantage to pounce on her rivals late.  Headed in the right direction, but not sure things will set up as well for her tonight.

7

Velocity Headlight

Barn had a couple of winners here on Opening Night, and most were arriving in town after chasing tougher company in Indy just like this guy.  Much easier group here, I expect him to fire out and dictate the terms.  The one to beat.

8

Doc’s Shadow

First time starter arrives into town after a couple of decent AM tries at Hoosier, and keep in mind the last one occurred on an off track.  Well bred 3yo probably will be handled conservatively in his career debut, but could be flying late at a big price.

Race 5                                 Selections                                                3-7-1-5

1

McBlack

Gobbling up ground late here on Sunday, missing less than a length for the whole thing after being far back early.  Huge post relief tonight, will be sitting much closer early on.  Maybe.

2

Shakey Slim

Claimed here for a $2.5k tag on Sunday, new connections opt to try him out in the conditioned ranks instead of claiming company.  Might be asking a bit much to go with this bunch, will have to step it up a bit.

3

Watts of Power

OH invader has been facing far tougher company in Columbus recently, and should enjoy the class relief here in his local debut.  No question he fits with these.  Shehan opted to #6 instead.

4

Spirits Gone Wild

Absolutely torched with brutal trip in last try at Scioto, and is another that should like the stretch out to the big track.  Doesn’t like to win a lot, just 1 for 47 over the last couple of seasons.  I could consider for minor awards only.

5

She Shell Cruise

Lone mare has been well beaten recently at Scioto, but takes the plunge here locally along with several of her other rivals.  She has done well here in the past, can go with these if she brings her best effort.

6

Super Great

Easy winner in the local Q’fer but I’m not convinced he was in all that tough.  Had some major stamina issues prior to that, I’m going to watch one before hopping on board.  Shehan opted here over #3.

7

FiftyTwoFlat

On paper, this guy is supposed to crush this field.  He is dropping out of the sky, from the $10k claiming ranks at Scioto for our ’13 leading trainer.  However, I’ve never been a big fan of his.  Hmmm…..

Race 6                                 Selections                                                7-3-5                                    Pick 4 Starts Here                               See Ticket at the End

1

Jabez

Lost all chance with the break here on Opening Night, making it even more difficult to gage his current form.  Plenty of back class with over $466k in the bank, but only 1 for 45 the last 2 seasons.

2

MJ’s Be There

OH Fair invader has had some breaking issues recently, and could possibly improve on the stretch out to the big oval here.  Would have to improve a LOT to contend for any of the major awards though.

3

Big Cookie

HUGE plunge in class tonight after the Cookie took on a solid group of males in Preferred here on Sunday.  Should find this spot much more to her liking.  Major player.

4

Foxy Polar

Barn was on a roll here with 2 (almost 3) winners on Opening Night, but it would seem like a bit much for this mare to compete with the top ones in here.  I’ll pass for now.

5

Babys Chump Change

Mare has been kicking around at the OH fairs recently, and does pack plenty of early speed if Sturgeon elects to blast.  Appears to be on the improve since changing barns 3 starts back.  Maybe.

6

Southwind Nazareth

Major stamina issues in OH thus far, but taking what should be a pretty good drop in class here.  Might wake him up a bit, but would have to find a lot more still.

7

Custom Tag

I’ve always been a big fan of this guy, who has hit the board in 52 of 90 career tries.  Absolutely obliterated his rivals back on 7-19 at Bluegrass, and I think anything close to that effort will be enough to get the job done in here.

8

South Jersey Flash

Stamina has been the main concern here all season long, including last time when he finished far back at Scioto.  Another that holds plenty of back class with over $324k in the bank.  Your call.

9

Massasauga

Took a shot out of there in tough group on Sunday, but was unable to sustain his bid late.  Slammed with outside post here tonight, looks like a tough assignment once again.

Race 7                                 Selections                                                5-6-1-8

1

Roscoe

Nearly held on for 2nd in the $8.5k KY Fair Final last time, only to be nipped at the wire.  Gets the slight call as the fav here in what looks like a suspect crew.  No question he can win, but I wouldn’t want to accept a short price on him.

2

Dirty Lucy

Arrives in town after a couple of solid efforts to close out her Paducah season, but keep in mind she is still sporting an 0 for 39 LT resume.  Couldn’t endorse her for the top spot, but she could sneak on the ticket here.

3

Barbara’s in Gear

Barbara hasn’t flashed any high gear speed to this point in her brief career.  I’ll pass for now.

4

Blissful Beach Boy

Didn’t appear to steer all that well here last week before making the break, has had severe stamina issues to this point.  Would take a complete turnaround.

5

Bound to Scoot

Has flashed some big early speed against overnight company at Bluegrass, and in a field where nothing really jumps out I am willing to take a flier here that she will sit on or close to the lead and potentially pull off an upset.

6

Mighty Flighty

Lightly raced 3yo filly invades from the OH fairs, and might just pick things up a bit with the move to the big track.  Should offer a square price as well.  I’ll give her a try on the ticket.

7

Mac’s Ms Cane

Hasn’t shown us anything to get excited about just yet.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.

8

Burning Out

Has some early speed but stamina has been the main concern to this point.  Likely going to blast out here, but if he was packing it in on the smaller tracks, hard to figure he will like staring down the quarter mile stretch here.

9

Beach Talkin

Hasn’t had much to offer on the end of her miles recently, but should find this much easier as well.  Still would need to pick things up quite a bit though.

10

A Red River Runner

Perfectly spotted here on Sunday when adding Lasix, but came to a stop late.  Now gets slammed with outside post, not positive indicators.

Race 8                                 Selections                                                9-3-8-1

1

Blazing Tower

Racing evenly against similar company at Bluegrass, and should be in line for a nice trip after landing on the pole.  Facing a bit tougher crew here as well, needs his very best shot.

2

Frtne Rd

Came to a stop on the end of his effort on Sunday.  Can’t endorse after seeing that.  Pass.

3

Canaco Run

Shows racing at the higher claiming levels earlier this spring in OH, and has hit the board in 8 of 14 starts this season.  No question he can go with these if he is anywhere close to the top of his game.

4

Drew Bromac

Hard knocking 14yo faces mandatory retirement at the end of ’14, but he is going out with style here in his final season, already with 6 wins on the year.  Nearing in on $300k LT.  Probably better than his Bluegrass rivals in here, but newcomers appear to be tough.  Brinson opted here over #5.

5

Western Guy

Didn’t have much to offer at this level on Opening Night, and would have to find a lot more in the tank here.  I’ll pass for now.  Brinson opted to #4 instead.

6

Fish Tales

Has been ‘ok’ against similar at Bluegrass, and like many others should like the stretch out to the big oval.  Maybe a notch or two below the top ones, but definitely in play for the minor awards.

7

Don’t Forget Ms

Lightly raced 3yo filly is taking on some seasoned rivals here with a lot of back class.  Hard for me to see her stepping up to go with these just yet.  Nisonger opted here over #10.

8

3rd Street Pete

Indy invader has been soundly defeated recently in the bottom level claiming ranks at Hoosier, but taking a HUGE plunge into our bottom level.  Short price looming, and 0 for 34 last 2 yrs.  I can’t play him on top.

9

Topville Diamond

Had some success here last season, and appears to be well spotted for his local debut here in ’14.  Hasn’t been able to go with the top 5k claimers in OH, but should be primed and poised for a drop and pop here.  I’m on board.

10

Theshadow nose

12yo veteran is facing a tough assignment from way out here.  I’ll watch one first.  Nisonger opted off to #7 instead.

Race 9                                 Selections                                                4-5-3-2

1

Ammie Finesse

Stopping badly in the last couple tries at Bluegrass, and I don’t see things getting any easier for her here.  Pass.  Shehan opted to #4 instead.

2

Feys Bl’zen Grey

Grey gelding returns to his favorite racing strip in search of his first win on the season.  Might not have the same quick step he did a few years back, but he will fight them all the way to the wire.  I’ll toss him on the ticket.

3

My Roberto

Roberto has some big early speed, and he should be able to snap off the gate here en route to a nice trip.  With that in mind, we will toss him on the ticket as well.

4

Sweet Fancy Moses

Thought she might need a start off that layoff here on Sunday, but came up only a neck short of pulling off a 16-1 upset after being used HARD.  Lands back in what appears to be a softer crew.  Anything similar should be enough.  Shehan opted here over #1.

5

Presidential Sam

An even fifth place finish here on Opening Night, and now moves over to the conditioned ranks where he appears to have landed in a fairly comfortable spot.  Must respect.

6

Looksgood Onu

Put together a decent resume last year in Chicago, but hasn’t been finishing up her miles well this season.  Pass.

7

Rockamabella

Cleveland invader never got involved last time, but just missed in a sharp effort prior.  Appears to pack enough early speed to overcome outside post.  Look for her to blast early.  Maybe.

Race 10                             Selections                                                2-4-6-3

1

Great Scot

No excuse on Sunday night, towed into it perfectly but lacked any late kick and ended up finishing far back.  Hard to jump on board after that effort.  Pass for now.

2

Art Genta

Got caught in behind a couple of dead horses here on Sunday, so I wouldn’t be too hard on him for that effort.  Did have a little sneaky late pace to offer after he finally shook loose.  0 for 19 this year, but a wide open crew here.  Maybe.

3

No Oil Paint

Likely fav is only sporting a 1 for 42 record over the last 2 seasons, but does appear to be well spotted on the class drop.  Used extremely hard last time out, any smoother journey puts him very close.  Must respect.

4

Caribbean Girl

Drops in for the tag tonight after trying out Preferred company on Sunday.  No question this is an easier group, but still going to need her very best punch.  Your call.

5

Kilo Shark

Got bottled up here behind a wall of horses on Sunday, but not sure he had a lot to offer regardless.  Takes a drop further here, so hard to completely ignore him in what appears to be a wide open field.

6

Student Royalty

Doesn’t appear to pack a lot of early speed, but shouldn’t hamper him in short field.  Probably going to sit back and look to pounce late.  Yet another with a chance in here.

Race 11                              Selections                                                7-5-3-6                                                        20-Cent Super Hi Five

1

Seeking Leverage

Looks like a much easier spot than she has been facing recently in OH & PA, and appears to be one of many with a shot in wide open finale.  Not sure I’d be willing to take a short price on her though.

2

Iknow Everything

Makes me feel good when they name horses after me.  Actually, I think the chances he was named after me are about as good as the chances of him winning tonight….   Not good.

3

Classy Standing

Has been hooking up with some solid stock in OH recently, and should enjoy the class relief here locally.  One of many with a big shot.  Nisonger opted here over #6.

4

Kentucky All Star

Rolled into Chi-town long enough to make a couple breaks, and now will try to get back on track back on her home turf.  Looks like a tough spot for her tonight though.

5

Velocity Driven

Has had to endure some tough and abusing trips recently at Hoosier, any smoother journey should make him a major player here locally.  Barn has already raced several tonight, see how they have done.

6

Sea Art

Shows hooking up with #3 in one start at Scioto way back on 5-29, where they finished within a quarter length of one another.  Might offer a lot better value than the 3 and probably not a lot of difference between them.  Your call.

7

Call Me Elizabeth

I’ve been called worse, and Elizabeth has been facing a bit worse in Paducah recently.  However, I think she is really going to like the move to the big track and might offer a good price.  I’ll try her in wide open field.

8

Skyway Titan

Made a break at the OH fair in his only start over the last month.  Likely going to be sitting last.  I’ll pass for now.

Pick 4 (Races 6 – 9)
