Red Mile Race Reviews
Thursday, August 9th
Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt
Race 1 Selections 3-6-4-5
1
River Canyon
A couple of even efforts on
the OH fair circuit, but would really have to pick things up to be close
here. I’ll watch one first.
2
Muncie
Showed some improvement with
a nice runner up finish down in Paducah
last time, but is another that would need to find a lot more speed to go with
the top ones in here. I’ll pass
against these.
3
Sadies Art
Has been consistent on the
IL fair circuit with the exception of one break. Shows a Q’fying win at Hoosier in 2:00.4 to
begin his career. Should pick up with
the return to the big track. I’ll take
a shot.
4
Big Man Clyde
Clyde was great in the AM to begin his career, but has
stopped badly in both of his tries under the lights. Appears to have found an easier spot, but
still going to have to find some stamina
5
Mortal Combat
They obviously thought this
guy had some talent if they dropped him in a $28k stake in Chi-town to begin
his career. Still has lots to prove,
we haven’t seen his finisher yet.
6
Dancing in Terror
Certainly improved in the
local Q’fer, and appears to be all set for his first LT start tonight. Probably going to have to do it from last
though, I’ll take a shot to beat him at a short price.
Race 2 Selections 5-1-6-4
1
Rapids N Currents
You can see this guy went
off at 5-2 going for $250k here last year, and ended up tiring to finish 4th. Only his 3rd start back of the
year, and should continue to improve.
Barn got beat on a couple of short prices here Sunday though, so I’ll
take a shot to beat him here at short odds.
2
Youknowwhat I like
Held his own against
overnight company at Bluegrass, but faces a
much tougher crew in his first local start.
I like the price, but not sure I can endorse him in this spot.
3
Moreagio
Didn’t have anything to
offer in his first local start.
Pass.
4
Say It’s True
Came up large 2 starts back
in Columbus
to spring an 11-1 upset, but followed that up with another break. No question he can go a little when he
minds his manners, but appears to be his own worst enemy.
5
Big Cookie
The cookie has been off a
couple of months, but I was impressed by her morning try here last
Tuesday. She also had some success
here last year. Barn was hitting on
all cylinders opening night. Lots to
like.
6
Dew Drop Dolly
You don’t see many 7yo’s
with only 6 LT starts, but that’s what we have here. Ended up putting together a decent run at Bluegrass. Big
step up here. Maybe underneath.
Race 3 Selections 4-5-3-1
1
Sir Johnny Colt
5yo is 0 for 25 LT, but
lands in a comfortable spot for his local debut. Not sure I can use him in the top spot
given that record, but definitely a shot to hit the ticket.
2
Perfect Truth
The truth is she picked up a
win in her final start down in western Ky, and she appears to be improving in
her freshman season. Going to need
even more here though.
3
Wheelie Fast
30 career starts, never been
1st or 2nd…
Never? You would have thought
somewhere along the line he would have found a good spot. Makes his 2nd start for new barn
tonight. Short price looming. Only underneath.
4
Southern Strong
Typically don’t like 2yo
fillies in against older, but this filly is making her first career start
after a nice even effort in her local Q’fer.
She has hooked several camera shy horses as well. I’m on board.
5
The Hit Lady
Made a big move in her first
start off a long layoff, and held in there late to finish a decent 5th. Should be tightened up and ready to go
here. Maybe.
6
Electrician
Added lasix in the AM at
Indy, but still didn’t seem to take care of his stamina problem. Going to have to find a way to keep the
electric on late. I’ll wait until we
see some improvement.
7
Jack N Water
That doesn’t sound like a
very good combination. This guy has
been ‘ok’ on the IL fairs, but things aren’t going to get any easier
here. Not tonight.
8
Towne Believer
Filly has completely stopped
in her last couple of appearances in Indy.
Prior starts would at least make her competitive against these. Almost a month off as well. I’m not a believer just yet.
9
Rollin Terror
Doesn’t appear to be ready
to go with these just yet, and slammed with post 9 as well. Pass.
Race 4 Selections 1-7-8-6
1
Viking Mia
Mia was holding her own
against 8k claimers in Indy, before a couple of disappointing efforts in Toledo. Hit the board in 20 of 44 last season, and
lands in a nice spot for her local 2012 debut. I can make a case here.
2
Lucky Hoos.
This hoosier hasn’t had a
lot of pop in his last several tries.
Pass.
3
ClassaComer
11yo has made breaks in 2 of
his last 3. Not an overly tough group
here, but hard for me to endorse off that.
4
Super Scot
Hit the board in 9 of 10
starts on the season, including a win at Bluegrass
over #5. Still needs to prove he packs
enough speed to go with these.
5
Fort Worth
Didn’t have the greatest of
trips here on Sunday, but he really tired badly down the lane. Would take a complete turnaround to be
close with these. Pass.
6
Manaloha
Saved ground throughout in
his local debut, and lands in what appears to be a much easier spot with this
crew. Still going to have to find more
speed, but this should be more to his liking.
7
Main Street Hall
Nice Q’fying effort at Lebanon, but
his guy is making his first start back after a 13 month vacation. The horse that was 3rd in that
Q’fer came out to race very well on opening night. Take a long look here.
8
Roscoes Rib Rack
Roscoe got BBQ’d in that
local Q’fer, but don’t be too hard on him because that was a very nice
trotter he was in against. Lands in a
very comfortable spot tonight. Big
shot.
Race 5 Selections 7-8-9-1
1
Yank My Rope
Picked up a win here last
year in 57, but hasn’t been that sharp in her last several. I’ll wait and see if she shows some
improvement with the return to the red clay.
2
West Coast Arturo
Passed some very tired
horses the other night to finish a distant 4th, but this mare has
gotten good here in the past. Takes a
drop in for the $2.5k tag here against only mares. Still going to need more.
3
Tammy’s Hot Spot
Yet to hit the board in 6
starts this season. Hard to endorse
her against these.
4
Scenic Bay
Has had some major stamina
issues in her last few down at Bluegrass, would take a LOT
more to go with these.
5
Rainy Day Q
Raced evenly against lesser
company at Bluegrass, but another that would
have to find a lot more in what appears to be a much tougher spot
tonight.
6
Twinklefiretwo
Held her own at the $2k
level in Paducah,
and now finds herself in for the $2.5k tag for her local debut. Barn has had some upsetters in the past,
but looks like a tough spot for her as well.
7
Georgian Jiffyjane
This mare will win the best
dressed award with her pink gear, and she was lethal at this level last
season. Drops in for the tag from the
F&M open in Paducah,
should be ready to roll. Big
shot.
8
My Surfer Girl
Likely to be a heavy
favorite taking the drop from $5k claimers at Scioto
into $2.5k here. Made a break in her
last appearance… the drop certainly
raises some red flags. Is she worth
the risk?
9
JB’s Cutie
Barn was firing on opening
night with the Columbus invaders, and this
mare has held her own against similar at Scioto. Slammed with the outside post, but should
be close.
Race 6 Selections 6-2-5-9 Start of $10,000 Guaranteed
Pick 4 Carryover - $2,663
1
Southwind Metallic
2yo closed well in his 1st
LT start to be 3rd, but followed that up with a break last time
out. Lands on the pole, and barn has
had plenty of success here in the past.
Your call.
2
Mystical Dew
Dominated in the AM, and
picked up a win in his only prior start at Hoosier as well. Hasn’t made any mistakes thus far, and
continues to improve with each start.
Taking on older here, but no question he is the one to beat.
3
Ranggo Kid
Lightly raced 3yo is yet to
have much success. I’ll wait until we
see some improvement.
4
Leanto Scarlet
Scarlet put together a very
nice resume last year, but has had mixed results while racing in Indy this
season. Might be a touch easier here,
but still going to have to pick it up a bit.
Maybe.
5
Blue Diamonds
East coast Q’fers look good
for this 1st time starting filly, in what is ultimately a prep for
the Kentucky Sires Stakes that get underway Aug 19th. Should continue to improve.
6
Tickle Me Grace
Interesting proposition
here, 4yo mare taking on some youngsters that have bigger and better things
coming up, and she shows Open lines at the IL fairs and at Bluegrass. Should really pick up on the bigger track. Live longshot? I think so.
7
Rose Run Oriana
Filly has been ok on ‘B’
level Sires Stakes in Indy. Lands in
against a competitive crew tonight, and will need her very best to go with
these.
8
Kacy’s Photo
Didn’t fire on opening night,
and I’ll wait until we see some signs of improvement.
9
Joyeux Dream
Finished 3rd in the fair
here behind a couple of very nice 3yo colts.
Continues to improve with each start, and is a year older than many of
his main rivals in this spot. Maybe.
10
Delmary
Has had some success against
similar in Columbus,
but slammed with post 10 tonight in her local debut. Competitive group, but we can’t use them
all.
Race 7 Selections 1-5-4-2
1
Noah C
Has been facing some very
tough company in Indy, and is taking a substantial drop in class
tonight. Should find that to his
liking. Has won here several times in
the past.
2
Duck Hook
Another that has had some
success over this strip in the past, and has been holding his own in the
claiming ranks in Columbus. Appears to have hooked a couple of tough
rivals tonight, but maybe underneath.
3
Primrose Path
Mare shows a decent Q’fer 3
back at Balmoral, and followed it up with a couple of even efforts at the IL
fairs. I’ll take a look at one before endorsing
her just yet.
4
Jo Jo’s Circus
The circus always flies home
down our long stretch, and got good here last season. Going to need her very best tonight.
5
Noble Thought
Changed barns 3 starts back,
and has been firing on all cylinders since.
That being said, this is a lot different than taking on small fields
at the OH fairs. Short price
looming.
6
Baby Blue Pajamas
Yet another Red Mile veteran
in this group, and this mare always shows up with solid efforts here as
well. Hasn’t been as sharp this season
as she was a year ago though. Your
call.
7
Ginnysdoodledandy
Held his own against
overnight company in Paducah,
but takes a slight step up in class tonight and hooks a tough group for this
level. I’ll watch one first.
8
Lavish Badlands
Another that was competitive
against slightly lesser in western Ky, but would have to really step it up to
hang with the top ones in here. Should
be blasting early.
9
Do It Best
One of my favorite overnight
horses, regardless of the trip this guy always gives you a Grade ‘A’
effort. Pulled off a couple of upsets
here last year, but he wasn’t done any favors with the post draw and this is
not an easy crew. Only his very best will do here.
Race 8 Selections 5-6-3-8
1
Princess Wendy
Wendy tried them free-legged
last time, but didn’t seem to reverse her fortunes. This field is an absolute crap shoot, but
hard to endorse her off those recent tries.
2
By the Sea Sally
Chi-town invader came up
empty last time, but did have a decent AM work prior. This is a field with plenty of question
marks. Can’t say anything would
surprise me here.
3
Bad Girlfriend
What’s worse, a bad
girlfriend or none at all? Hard to
say, and hard to gage this mare off her Paducah
efforts. I’m having trouble coming up
with anything solid in this crew.
4
Shirleybaerg
Barn has had plenty of
success here in the past, and this mare shows a couple of average efforts at Scioto. Again,
this is a field full of question marks.
Certainly have to take a look here.
5
Sweetlittleheart
Held her own against similar
company at Bluegrass. One of many that I could make a case for in
here with her best effort.
6
Auroring Doll
At first glance, this mare
appears to be the one to beat, but she is likely to be the fav and has had
some severe stamina problems this season.
It’s a LONG way home if she’s on top at the head of the lane.
7
Im Bashful in Away
Yet to hit the board in 11
tries, but this is probably the softest spot she has landed in thus far in
her career. Will she be able to step
it up against these? I wish I
knew.
8
Pocket Belle N
13yo mare blazed through
some wicked fractions in her first local start on Sunday, and now she lands
right back in the box. No question,
this is a much softer crew than she faced last time. Stiltner is going to have to find a way to
ration out the speed though.
Race 9 Selections 8-6-7-2
1
Crazy Dan
Dan got claimed at the end
of June, and we’ve only seen him make one AM start for his new
connections. It was a decent work, but
he is stepping up quite a bit against a decent group of conditioned horses
tonight.
2
I Ota Win
Invades after a nice win off
a tough trip at Raceway. Taking a
decent step up, but anything close to his best should put him right in the
mix.
3
Sassy Kathys Girl
PA shipper got cooked early
in her last effort, but has been holding her own in the claiming ranks at The
Meadows. Not sure she is ready to go
with the favs in here, but could have a shot at the minor awards.
4
Take a Shot Scott
Shows some decent lines from
both Bluegrass and Scioto, but may be
spotted a little too tough against this crew.
I’m always willing to take a shot, but I’m going to wait for a better
spot for Scott.
5
E R Prince Charmin
Found himself in way too
tough last time out at Scioto, but should
find this spot to be much more to his liking.
Another with a solid chance.
6
Catalina Kid
Drops into the conditioned
ranks from claimers at Hoosier. Has
had almost a month off, and changes barns as well. Looks to have landed in a nice spot for his
local debut.
7
Averylu
Has been facing some tough
company at Scioto, and nearly got the job
done on the class drop last time out.
Lands in what should be a similar spot tonight, but facing the boys as
well. Needs her very best.
8
Last Second Shot
Was decent here last year,
and he will certainly pick up on the move to the mile track. Possibly ready for a buzzer beater at a big
number? I’ll take a flyer.
9
Hezasonof eclipse
Speedball has hooked a tough
crew in his first local try, and I’m going to wait until he lands in against
softer company.
10
Leadme tothetruth
Veteran campaigner making
his 150th LT start tonight, but after some thorough investigating,
I think it is asking too much from post 10 against these. Pass.
Race 10 Selections 2-5-3-8
1
Under Act
No luck against similar
recently. Won’t get any easier
here. Pass.
2
Whersmelucky charms
Was in deep water at Scioto last time, and drops into our bottom level
condition for his first local start.
Doesn’t appear to be an overly tough crew, looks like the one to
beat.
3
Boodro
Finished up a distant 2nd
in his first start off the shelf in IL fair, and should continue to improve
here in his 2nd start back of the season. Not an overly tough group he lands in against.
4
Megawatt
Yet
another that is taking a substantial class plunge in his first local start,
and could be in line for a major wakeup call.
Only 1 for 54 in his last couple of years though for the win.
5
Lock Out
Q’fed decently, and drops in
for his first start after a 3 month break.
Anything close to the AM effort, and he should lock up an on the board
finish.
6
Gran Hiratzka
Hasn’t had much success
against similar in OH, and would need to pick it up to hang with the favs in
here. I’ll watch one first.
7
Theshadow nose
Hooked a tough spot for this
class in his first start here on Sunday, and lands in against an easier group
tonight. Still going to need to find a
lot more.
8
Sailors Sky
Raced evenly in his first
local start, and is another that should find this to group to be more to his
liking. Will need his very best. Jerrell opted here over #9.
9
KB’s Brock
Raced evenly in for the tag
Sunday, and now drops into the bottom condition. Slammed with post 9, and still needs to find
a bit more speed to hang with the top ones.
Jerrell opted to #8 instead.
