Red Mile Race Reviews

Thursday, September 12th

Track Handicapper – Gabe Prewitt

Race 1                     Selections                                4-6-2

1

Ravine

($32k Lex yearling) Has held her own against some solid stakes company on the east coast prior to arriving locally.  Should be in line for a nice up close trip from the pole.  Lachance opted here over #’s 2,3,5,6, & 8.

2

Keepsake Hanover

($70k HB yearling) No question she has the experience edge over her rivals tonight, hitting the board in 7 of 9 starts thus far.  She will be blasting out early, catch her if you can.  Lachance opted to #1 instead.

3

Demoiselle Hanover

($55k HB yearling) Doesn’t appear to pack the speed to hang with the top ones in here just yet.  I’ll wait until we see some improvement.  Lachance opted to #1 instead.

4

Yoga

($31k HB yearling) Overly impressive in her first 2 career tries prior to the break in that last start.  Not sure what happened there, but I’m willing to jump on board.  No question the talent is there.

5

Fashion Huntress

Flashed a bit of speed when she burst onto the scene in PA, but has regressed a bit since.  Added lasix in the Q’fer, maybe that will pick her back up a bit.  Your call.  Lachance opted to #1 instead.

6

Backorder

Solid career debut at Tioga last time, landing in a nice early position after getting saddled with post 9.  I would expect her to float out a bit here as well.  Should continue to improve.  Lachance opted to #1 instead.

7

Passing Jetta

($25k HB yearling – highest LJ sold at auction in ’12) Has trotted evenly against some tough company on the PASS circuit to begin her career, but I’m just not convinced she packs enough speed to hang with the top ones in here just yet.

8

Spit for Spat

($10k HB yearling) Finished FAR behind #4 when they hooked up back on 8-14, but this filly has picked things up quite a bit since, including a win here against overnight company.  Will need her very best.

Race 2                     Selections                                8-4-3

1

Paris Metro

($75k HB yearling) Yet to hit the board in 6 career tries, but I will mention she does appear to have drawn into one of the softer divs tonight and lands on the pole.  Still will have to pick things up a bit.  ML opted to #6.

2

Nantab

($17k HB yearling) Hasn’t been overly impressive in 4 AM Q’fers, and I will pass for now.

3

Anonyme Hanover

($47k HB yearling) Solid on the PASS circuit to begin her career, but she will likely be overbet tonight and I’m not sure I’m willing to take a short price on her.  I’ll look elsewhere for value.

4

Great Gwen

($27k HB yearling) Actually defeated #3 the only time they hooked up and both stayed on stride back on 8-6 at The Meadows.  Her best effort should put her in the mix here.

5

Platinum T

($97k Lex yearling) Hard to endorse after consecutive breaks to begin her career.  I’ll pass for now.

6

Graceful Kelly

($145k HB yearling – highest MY sold at auction in ’12) Major league pedigree for this filly, but we’ve yet to see any major league speed.  I’ll watch for any improvement.  Lachance opted here over #’s 1 & 8.

7

Alwaysin blackpedia

($10k HB yearling) Appeared to be a touch better after adding hobbles in the AM, but still appears to be a notch or two below the top ones in here.

8

Lady Lucky Lindy

($30k Lex yearling) Very impressive career debut at Tioga behind what appears to be a nice filly that we will see in Race 3.  Should continue to improve here in her 2nd LT try, I can make a big case.  ML opted to #6.

Race 3                     Selections                                3-1-5

1

Vanity Matters

($47k HB yearling) Made a break while on the move last time at Philly, and got caught up in the World Record mile prior at Pocono.  Lands on the pole here, appears to have plenty of talent.  Must respect.  ML opted to #3.

2

Love Talk

($30k HB yearling) Made nice recovery to finish 2nd after an early break in her career debut at Philly.  Lands in against some solid rivals here.  Things aren’t going to get any easier for her.  Palone opted to #5 instead.

3

You and I

($30k HB yearling) Very impressive when she has minded her manners and stayed on stride to this point in her career, should be blasting out early.  Maybe.  Lachance opted here over #’s 1 & 9.

4

Rarely Wrong

($20k Lex yearling) I suppose you know by now that they surely didn’t name this filly after me, but one thing I think I am actually right about is that this filly is still a notch or two below the top ones in here.  Pass for now.

5

Cee Bee Yes

($45k HB yearling) NJSS Champ has been solid all season, and will likely be blasting out early tonight as well.  Should be in line for a nice up close journey.  Lots to like.  Palone opted here over #2.

6

Sincerely Yours

Trotted evenly against mid-level stakes company in PA, and hasn’t proven she packs enough speed to contend for top honors in here just yet.  Pass.

7

Bikini So Teeny

($12k Lex yearling) Trotted evenly in mid-level stake at Vernon last time, but is another that just hasn’t proven she has enough speed to hang with the top ones yet.  I’ll watch for improvement.

8

Credit to Elgin

($35k Lex yearling) Made a break in her lone start, and now gets slammed with outside post.  I’ll pass for now.

9

Dynamite Honey

($80k HB yearling – highest EM filly sold at auction in ’12) Hasn’t flashed a lot of gate speed in 3 career tries and lands on the far outside in her local debut.  Not typically a recipe for success.  Pass.

Race 4                     Selections                                2-1-5-8                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Scully Sas

Believe me when I tell you that both of her local wins have been much easier than they look on paper.  Should sit close from the pole in her 3rd career try, facing some tough rivals here though.  Palone opted here over #5.

2

Goddess

($110k HB yearling) Has been razor sharp thus far in her brief career, and looks like the one to beat in my opinion.  Six figure yearling appears to be well on her way to a very promising career.

3

Spirit of Casey

Hasn’t had much to offer in her first 2 career tries, not ready to hop on board just yet.  Lachance opted to #9 instead.

4

Rockenon Broadway

($22k Lex yearling) Haven’t seen much to get excited about just yet, I’ll wait until we see some improvement before hopping on board.

5

Chipperoo

($52k Lex yearling) Held her own against some tough company thus far on the east coast, and should enjoy the stretch back out to the mile oval.  I can make a case here.  Palone opted to #1 instead.

6

Red Hot Spicy

Could only manage a couple of 3rds in her last 2 starts after picture perfect journeys.  Not sure things are going to get any easier or work out that perfectly here.  Pass.

7

Steffi

Hasn’t shown much talent locally just yet, hard to endorse her against these.

8

Outsourced Hanover

($27k Lex yearling) Solid against mid-level stakes company in PA, and appears to have plenty enough early speed to ensure she gets away good from post 8.  Should be in play for the minor awards.

9

Hot Springs

($120k HB yearling) Tired a bit down the lane here last time after a tough first over trip, but I don’t see things getting much easier taking on a tough crew from the far outside.  Not yet.  Lachance opted here over #3.

Race 5                     Selections                                7-8-3

1

Rokingcastle

Finally appeared to round the corner a bit in that last start, finishing a distant 3rd at big odds.  Should sit much closer from the pole here, would have to pick things up even more.  Your call.

2

Breakwater

I keep thinking this guy is going to fire a big effort one of these nights, a son of the best horse I’ve ever seen, SBSW.  However, he continues to disappoint.  I’m off the bandwagon.  Lachance opted to #7 instead.

3

Velocity Headlight

Appears to be all set for his career debut tonight after a trio of nice AM works.  Connections typically bring them along slowly, so I would expect an off the pace rally here.

4

Miller’s Dawn

Stamina continues to be a major concern, I’ll wait until we see some improvement.  Adds lasix tonight, might help a bit.

5

Orion’s Belt

Finished far back recently, and hooks some tough rivals again here.  Not tonight.

6

Doc’s Smokin

Had no chance in his only local try, after sitting in the back through an extremely slow opening half.  Might get a more lively pace to chase here, but would still need to prove he could hang with the top ones.

7

Fresh Look

First time starter appears to be ready to rock and roll tonight after 4 Q’fers in the AM.  Not sure why she missed over 2 months prior to the local Q’fer, but it was solid.  I’m on board.  Lachance opted here over #2.

8

Magnifique

Found herself in a very comfortable spot last time, but did exactly what she was supposed to which was to romp to an easy victory.  Anything similar makes her a big threat once again.

Race 6                     Selections                                3-5-6                       Pick 4 Starts Here                  See Ticket at the end

1

Bosco’s Angel

Barn has been on an absolute roll recently, and this fresh arrival lands on the pole here in an absolutely WIDE open field.  Only 1 for 25 last couple of seasons, but should be sitting close.

2

Fort Riley

Has trotted evenly against similar company locally, and any similar effort should put her in play for the minor awards once again.  Again, it’s absolutely WIDE open here to kick off the Pick 4.

3

Shawnee Gold

A decent 2nd on an off track the last time we saw her locally, and the rival that beat her in there has come back to race fairly well here recently.  I am willing to take a flier and try to strike gold.  Fladen opted to #9 instead.

4

Fort Commandr

Haven’t been overly impressed with his IL fair starts, hard for me to see him competing for the major awards in here.  I’ll pass for now.

5

Amgan

Finished up an even 4th in her local debut, behind FAR tougher company than she faces tonight.  Anything similar to that effort, should put her in play tonight.  Must respect.

6

Nomad

Trotted evenly in small Indy stake in his career debut, and was given the slight edge as the fav here in an absolute crapshoot.  Any further improvement makes him a major threat.

7

Deweys cheatingirl

Finished far back against stakes company in her career debut, lands in what appears to be a much softer spot tonight.  Maybe.

8

BonnynGlide

Not sure she packs enough speed to hang with these just yet.  Pass.

9

Over the Line

We haven’t seen much to get excited about thus far in his brief career, and he lands on the outside here tonight.  I’ll watch for any improvement.  Fladen opted here over #3.

10

Caribbean Dream

Yet to display any stamina locally, and faces another tough assignment from way out here.  Not for me.

Race 7                     Selections                                2-5-3-8                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Young Gunner

($20k Lex yearling) Not impressed with the AM works on this 1st time starter.  I’ll pass for now.

2

Rocky De Vie

($30k Lex yearling) Absolutely crushed overnight company here in his local debut, and the 2nd place finisher in there came back to race well here on Thursday.  Any further improvement puts this guy in the mix.

3

Dave Briggs

($27k Lex yearling) An even 5th place finish against top level stakes company last time in the $86k Champlain stakes at Mohawk.  Connections are obviously high on him if they had him in there.  Must respect.

4

Kapow Hanover

($90k HB yearling – highest EM sold at auction in ’12) Hasn’t shown the type of stamina that I would like to see just yet, but keep in mind he has been facing some top shelf company.  Your call.

5

Hillustrious

($56k Lex yearling) Not sure what caused him to make the break last time, but his prior romp against overnight company at Philly was very impressive.  Needs a big rebound here.

6

Dionysus Lindy

Hasn’t flashed the type of speed needed to hang with the top ones in this crew.  I’ll wait until we see some positive indicators.

7

Big Chum

($25k HB yearling) Easy winner as a heavy fav against overnight company locally, but taking a major step up tonight against a solid group of youngsters.  Not sure he is ready for these just yet.  Lachance opted to #8 instead.

8

Doncango

We haven’t seen him in almost a month now, but I actually was a fan of his first few tries.  You can throw the last start out after he got parked the mile.  If he’s on top of his game, could surprise some people here.

9

Master Kemp

($50k Lex yearling) Appears to have enough early speed to overcome post 9, and should be able to find a nice up close journey.  Will need his very best.

10

Genius at Work

($80k HB yearling) Likely going to have to do it from far back here after drawing post 10.  Not sure I like how things will set up for him in his 3rd career try.  Not tonight.

Race 8                     Selections                                2-9-5-3                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

King City

($52k Lex yearling) Should be in line for a nice up close trip after landing on the pole, but would still need to pick things up quite a bit to contend for any of the major awards.  I’ll pass for now.  Palone opted to #9 instead.

2

Trixton

($360k Lex yearling) Yes, that says $360,000, and although it is very early in his career, that price could end up looking like a bargain at the end of the day.  Hasn’t done anything wrong to this point, I’m on board.

3

Outburst

($33k Lex yearling) PA invader continues to improve with each and every start, including an easy score against overnight company last time at Pocono.  Facing toughest task of his career here.  Maybe.

4

Royal Dazzler

($80k Lex yearling) Hasn’t proven he packs the speed to hang with these at this point.  Pass for now.  Lachance opted to #8 instead.

5

Opulent Yankee

($4k HB yearling) Bargain yearling appears to have some talent, but appears to have hooked an ultra talented crew for his local debut as well.  Any further improvement should put him squarely in the mix still.

6

Speak the Truth

($65k HB yearling) Absolutely crushed in his career debut last time at Philly, but steps up to take on a more seasoned group tonight.  The truth is he would have to improve even more, but it wouldn’t shock me.

7

O Narutac Perfetto

($40k HB yearling) Connections obviously think this guy has some talent, racing him against tough open stakes company at Mohawk.  Has had some breaking issues, but no question a big late kick.  ML opted to #8 instead.

8

Yankee Fashion

($130k HB yearling) Appeared to have some talent when he burst onto the scene, but has regressed into some bad habits over the last couple of starts.  I’ll watch one first.  Lachance opted here over #’s 4, 7, & 10.

9

Sumatra

($9k HB yearling) Finished up a solid 2nd last time behind a colt that is actually in Race 9 and appears to have some talent.  Has hit the board in 6 of 7 to begin his career.  Lots to like.  Palone opted here over #’s 1 & 5.

10

Scacco Matto

Hard to believe that the fav in the $250k KYSS final could end up as a big longshot here in $10k Kindergarten, but he has landed in against some tough rivals.  Not sure I can endorse him against this crew.  ML opted to #8.

Race 9                     Selections                                7-4-2-6                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Quikwit

($100k Lex yearling) Picked up a 5th place check 2 starts back against some of the toughest colts in the country in the $280k Peter Haughton.  Should sit close, but I would think he’s in play for the minor awards only tonight.

2

Lightning Force

($80k Lex yearling) Certainly has shown some improvement since adding hobbles 2 starts back, but keep in mind he was still soundly defeated by #6 2 starts back at Tioga.  Would have to pick things up a bit to turn the tables.

3

Gangio

($13k HB yearling) Hasn’t shown enough speed to hang with the top ones in here to this point, I’ll wait until we see some signs of improvement.

4

Resolve

Upstate NY barn invades with what appears to be a talented colt, who put in a HUGE mile 2 starts back at Tioga to score the 18-1 upset in 55.2.  Likely blasting early, should be in line for a nice trip.

5

Myolinist

($50k Lex yearling) Haven’t been overly impressed with his first few tries, would still have to pick things up quite a bit to hang with the top ones in here.

6

Toss Cartwright

($50k HB yearling) Invades locally riding a nice 3 race win streak.  Appears to have hooked a bit tougher crew here, but no question his best effort puts him in the mix.  Maybe.  Lachance opted here over #10.

7

Southwind Spirit

($105k Lex yearling) Six figure yearling was the NJSS runner up, and finished 3rd behind a couple of very talented colts in the $280k Peter Haughton.  Yet to miss the board, appears to be the real deal.

8

Johnny Boy F

($47k HB yearling) Soundly defeated here against overnight company last time, and appears to be overmatched at this point once again.  Pass.

9

Fondant

First time starter has been given a tough assignment, taking on a crew like this from post 9.  I’ll watch one first.

10

Who Wants Soup

($13k HB yearling) Riding a 3 race win streak of his own, after taking out mid-level stakes rivals in PA over the last few.  Likely facing a better crew tonight, will need his absolute very best from way out here.  ML opted to #6

Race 10                   Selections                                7-1-4-6                    50 Cent Superfecta Wagering

1

Western Tower

Barn has been on absolute fire recently, marching all the way to the top of the trainer’s standings.  This guy takes a drop into our bottom level claimer and lands on the pole.   I can make a big case.

2

Doc’s Sea Lion

Went straight to the top and dominated here on Sunday at this level, and will likely be blasting out once again here in what is probably his final local try before barn heads to Colonial Downs.  Must respect.

3

Mor Than Enuff Russ

Has been knocking on the door at this level at some big odds, just missing last time at 8-1.  Likely will be saving ground, looking to shake loose late once again.  Your call.

4

Sadies Legacy

Unbelievably, this guy has gotten caught up in consecutive speed duels here, and expectedly tired a bit late.  I do think there is some talent here if Smith can ration out the speed.  Live longshot?  I think so.

5

Our Stormy Flight

Looks like it’s going to be a stormy local debut as well for this OH invader, he is 0 for 47 the last 2 years.

6

Ndana Favorite

Note the claim here, as this lightly raced 11yo makes his debut for new connections.  Typically has a solid late kick, price should be right as well.  Maybe.

7

Fun Time

Hard to knock this guy, he has yet to miss the board locally in 5 tries at this level.  Should have PLENTY of pace to chase tonight in this crew, and if that’s the case he WILL be flying late.

8

Glad to be Here

Won on an off track the last time we saw him locally, but has a scratched ‘sick’ line in between.  Likely going to have to do it from last here.  Will need his absolute very best.

Race 11                   Selections                                10-9-7-8-6                               10 Cent Super Hi Five Wagering

1

You’re Catching On

Has had some breaking problems thus far in her brief career, and looks to have landed in against some solid rivals tonight in the finale.  Will have to improve a bit and mind her manners as well.

2

Musclecar Man

Didn’t have much to offer in his only local try, would take a complete turnaround here.  Pass.

3

Elzane

Appears to be overmatched against the top ones in here.  Pass.

4

Groton Party

Picked up the nickel in the $250k KYSS final, but still appears to be a notch or two below the top ones in here.  I’ll wait for a better spot.

5

Smartys Darlin

A distant 3rd when we last saw her here against overnight company, and it doesn’t appear that things are going to get any easier here.  I could consider her for the minor awards only once again.

6

Dawning Dream

Has shown some speed against solid company in Canada, but has had some breaking issues as well.  Appears to be a substantial drop in class here, but a major threat if she minds her manners.  Fladen chose over #8.

7

Sheer Joy Hanover

First time starter appears to have a solid Q’fer under her belt, and any further improvement should put her in the mix off that.  I will assume she wasn’t eligible to the Kindergarten Series.

8

Come and Play

Parlayed a perfect trip in behind the heavy fav here last week into a nice 2nd place finish.  Should be looking to blast out and for a similar journey here.  Maybe.  Fladen opted to #6 instead.

9

Mystical Melody

Another first time starter, this one a 3yo with 2 dominant local Q’fers under her belt.  No question she will be blasting out early.  How good is she?  I guess we will know soon enough.

10

Sina

East coast invader gets saddled with post 10 for her local debut, but has held her own against solid overnight company recently.  Banked over $94k in her career, I’m ready to hop on board.
